new cell

hey all, got myself a new cell, so the old one will be going out of service. actually 9/30 is the last day. so if i haven't told you my new number, you can check out my aim profile for it. if you need it some other way lemme know and i'll get it to you. i just feel a little paranoid about posting my number online.

oh and i'm a new owner of a black rzr phone. i'm enjoying making ringtones out of mp3s.

lessee, i need to do like one additional photo update just to get rid of all my pics. and then i think i will try to resume xanga-ing just about whatever comes to my mind. it gives me a chance to write differently than say a business email or an aim convo. so yah, but i will still post pics from time to time. hmm, maybe i'll even do commentary on them, that'd be fun. in any case, please stay in touch, i have upgraded my plan so i got minutes to spare.

photo update
yup, so i've been meaning to upload some pics, and yeah these actually have been sitting on my computer for some time. i even have more in my camera but we'll just focus on a single solitary day for this entry

8/6/05 (two weddings and a baseball game)
a day which began like any other, but would end with many lives changed. not mine of course, but i was taken along for a ride) so here's how a rough breakdown of the day went:

(actual times may vary since i've allowed so much time to elapse since the events have taken place)

2:00 AM: (yes, i know for many this doesn't count as part of the day, but i'm including it for reference) return from long praise team practice session. in bed asleep by 2:30

8:00 AM: wake up and getting ready for the day. suit up in wedding gear.

9:15 AM:  leave the house. stop at bed, bath and beyond for last minute wedding gift shopping. i won't say for which wedding or what was purchased, but you're observant (or were a member of either wedding couple) you can figure it out.

9:30 AM: on the road again heading to naperville

10:15 AM: arrive at destination described my mapquest, realize we had input an incorrect address.

10:25 AM: after fully realizing the error of our ways call mazie for directions.

10:35 AM: arrive at correct location after briefly stopping at a gas station to confirm directions. we take seats towards the outside and enjoyed the beautiful outdoor ceremony. participate in an excellent lunch reception and even some dancing.

jon and jess schildt cutting the wedding cake

couple being congratulated en route to jon's red jeep wrangler

3:00 PM: depart schildt wedding for second wedding.

3:30 PM: arrive at correct location, spot mike and priscilla, exchange greetings. determine best way to carry extremely heavy wedding present inside church. after much planning followed by execution realize we a little time to kill and play catch in parking lot.

4:00 PM: enter church, sit with other guests

4:30 PM: wedding begins amidst many snapshots from jacob's canon digital rebel.

bride being escorted by the father

introduction of the new couple

5:20 PM: leave naperville in a hurry (after changing in the back seat of the mini-van) to catch opening pitch of white sox vs. mariners. realize we again had wrong directions (this time my fault). i had put directions from the reception which we unfortunately couldn't make (sorry missy). so after correcting that we raced along on 294 to chicago.

6:05 PM: reach US cellular to hear the fireworks from expressway, signaling the start of the game. also realize that the 35th st exit is closed. we shoot an exit south and find street parking and park with permit from nelson (thanks for the permit it helped lots).

6:15 PM: en route to US cellular, hear fireworks indicating a white sox home run. we curse our bad luck and continue to make our way to the field.

6:30 PM: enter US cellular field to meet up with the other members of our youth and enjoy the rest of the evening seeing the white sox beat the mariners.

all in all, fun times on a hectic day

retreat 2005
had a pretty awesome, tiring, spiritual, busy and all-around good experience at retreat this year. pretty cool joining WCAC and seeing how their youth ministry is run. must say, i had my concerns without having the schedule prior, but i think pretty quick on my feet i adjusted. had an awesome co-leader and an awesome group of guys. i did assume that these junior high schoolers couldn't sit still long, but i had some pretty deep and serious conversations with them. so that was really cool. God works in awesome ways in times you don't expect Him to.

in some ways junior high school is a unique time since you're only beginning to figure out who you are. i have enjoyed leading college age small groups before. that situation is different and special since most of them already have a firm understanding of who they are. junior high schoolers though are at that point where they still struggle with their identity. so i did my best to try to remember what i was going through when i was their age and to encourage them that there will be these kinds of growing pains. looking back it is clearly a time where God is shaping you.

the time of praise was really awesome also. it was really heartfelt and i sang some songs which i haven't sung in awhile. it was awesome to see other youth pouring out their heart in worship. it's always been my hope and prayer to see that happen in our youth group.

playing basketball seemed to be the activity of choice this year. it was pretty crazy hot too and i had only prepared for indoor basketball. nevertheless, it was pretty fun to play. food was decent, but nothing to write home about. late nights staying up playing were great, games like catchphrase and conversations surrounding bodily functions were highlights. the only drawback, trying to catch up on sleep now.

oh and i did get my hair colored blue, all for missions. it washed out, as planned, but yup. thanks to katie for doing a superb job of spraying.

decisions, descisions, decisions...

yeah, i had posted way back in feb about my car shopping. i think i'm between two now. they are the mazda 3 and the toyota prius. so you might be thinking, hey, i thought your first choice was the prius. as it were, i test drove the prius and the 3 (i also test drove the xB, but there was nothing too special about the car beyond the head room). and i must say, that mazda zoom-zoom is hard to ignore. so again, opinions welcome. among my detractors, one claimed that i had swayed you when i indicated my preference. so this time, honest opinions, since i'm between the two choices.

day 1003

well although the novelty of being on xanga is wearing off, i do feel the need to post briefly about something that's going on in my life.

job search

i haven't been very forthcoming of details mostly because i do want to keep a low profile. however, i most recently have been seeing what opportunities are out there. i had been approached by a recruiter and was able to secure an interview with a prospective company. the company is located in streator IL which is about an hour and a half from chicago. in terms of the opportunity, it is a fairly well established company and has lots of resources available to the engineering department. the location was the biggest thing preventing me from being completely swayed by the company.

however, during the interview process i had filled out forms for a background check. i had indicated i would not want my present employer contacted. as well the company i interviewed with conveyed that request to the background check company. somewhere in that organization, there was a mistake made and my current supervisor was made aware that i was seeking employment elsewhere.

this presents a complicated situation, as this is not the normal practice. typically, you can maintain a fair level of confidentiality. however, once this was breached, i had to meet with my supervisor to address the issue. he then planned to call a meeting between himself, me and human resources. this is scheduled to take place tomm (thursday)

for myself, i feel very much like my life has been shaken up and even turned upside down (face). but seriously, i feel most strongly about my character being question. after speaking with some helpful friends i realize i do need to be firm and truthful and look past trying to maintain the reputation i prided myself in. it will take some humility, but i still plan to ask similarly tough questions back to my supervisor, questions regarding what his plan for me is.

through all of this i really do need support. if you could pray for me, i would very much appreciate it.
