Interests: I swam competetively for 10 years but don't anymore. some days i miss it, but overall i like being a bum. I also love to read (cuz i'm a dork i know).. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite of all time, but I've also got a new love for kids books... especially the Harold and the Purple Crayon series. If you don't know what I'm talking bout, ya'll should check em out. they're amazing. I have a great screensaver lol and love to watch chick flicks, although fight club is pretty much fantastic. Bowling is great as well and life just wouldn't be the same without my late night walks. I will be forever faithful to the Kansas guys' basketball team! This is a new year and they're gonna kick. I've been with them since I was 12 and I'm not stopping now! West Virginia basketball is my next fave. I watch longhorn football and will be in front of the tv watching them in the rosebowl. Other than that, I'm just a normal college kid who spends too much time on xanga and facebook rather than studying

The extraordinarily exciting life of Alyson

Let's see... i've been commanded to update so here goes since i'm really incredibly bored at work and no one's on aim.....

life is bout the same as usual. i always hate when ppl ask me what is new because i never really have anything new and exciting to tell - i guess college just doesn't have as much drama as high school did. thank goodness for that i don't think i could take it.

but yeah, second year of college - ready to graduate. but then i'd just get into grad school so really i don't have much of a graduation to look forward to. really just the things that would come with graduation... haha oh i love subtleties... unless everyone knows them and then they're really pointless but oh well, i was amused for 5 seconds and in the depths of hell (aka the boring computer lab) that counts for something.  anyways, i digress, classes are pretty good. absolutely love my economics class. some might say it's really the teacher but whatev they're just jealous of the 30something looks like a crack addict brilliance. lol jk. but love that class - so much fun. the guy draws a squab everyday. he gave us a lecture the other day about how we must be careful about drawing them because they come addictive. he must have been right because in my politics class the other day i started doodling one. granted, i don't take notes in there and either doodle or fall asleep so this wasn't an earthshattering event.... but still, it made me laugh and we all know how much i love that. so as stated before, politics sucks. the guy is so boring and it's 500 degrees in the room after i hike up a bazillion stairs in the blistering heat to get there. music class also sucks. a history of boring old music - who cares, it just fills my fine arts requirement. i love my english class. it's rather intensive, lots of reading and thinking, but the teacher is amazing! whihc i'm very happy about being an english major and all, esp since i've had not so great teachers in the past. but i've written a couple of poems for that class which is pretty cool. they turned out alright too - who knew i had it in me?? biology is ok. what can ya say? i don't like science. but the prof is the cutest old man - he gets all flustered when the girls laugh at his jokes. and says WHAT BUT DR. DOE really loud and obnoxiously imitating us. it's so hilareous, words cannot describe. and lab is actually really fun too with the girls in there. plus it's more laid back than astronomy lab because these labs asses don't know what they're doing all the time, but they don't try to fake it and act all important like the astronomy ones did. did a lab on bloodtyping and had to prick myself. that was no bueno. and i think the results were wrong anywya, so what was the point? oh well. so yeah that's my summary about classes. i know it was thrilling i'm sure.....

this week is charity week! YAY! basically just lots of fun times to raise money for charity. and hopefully no classes on thursday adn friday....we'll see about that tho - some of my teachers might be mean about it.

livin in o'connell. it's really not all that bad. i'm in a single so it's quiet and no one leaves their doors open. but really between classes, work, and byron's apartment, i'm never there so it's not a big deal. got myself a pretty hott poster of JACK SPARROW the coolest kid EVER. it's great. am rather appreciating the wonderfulness of johnny depp lately. got finding neverland and have already watched it multiple times. fabulous movie - rent it if you haven't seen it.

been watchin lots of movies, exposing b to chick flicks. unfortunately, some of them have turned out to be more guy movies than i remember. oh well. doing lots of puzzles too. the living room floor is always covered in pieces. got b a custommade puzzle of a picture of us for our anniversary. i think he liked it and i cannot wait to get started on it!

which brings up our anniversary. byron and i are doing quite well minus the occasional spats. but you know spats can be diffused in the moment by smacking him with a spatula. (haha reference from gilmore girls sorry if you didn't get it) anywhoos it was our one year anniversary last week. unfortunately i had classes, work, and a meeting for rome so i didn't get to see him until 8:30 pm. but he cooked me a wonderful dinner and had lots of flowers and candles. it was quite lovely. and apparantly  i am to receive my present tongiht. YAY DOUBLE YAY because i know what it is and oh they're going to be beautiful ~ diamond earrings! gasp it's what i've always wanted. and you know me, i'll be the goober that wears them everyday just so i can enjoy them! why wait for special occasions?!? so yes we're good. b's ankle/foot is all messed up so that is a wreck. but all in all life is sweet.

getting ready for rome! i'm so excited about it. researching all of the places i'm going to go throughout the semester. it's going to be wonderful! and if you're special, you just might get a postcard or two from me!

cole is coming to visit me next weekend!!! yay! i'm excited it will be very good to see her. and her fish paco! which is a pretty badass name if i may say so. and she wants to go get jordan a fish too so with any luck i'll get to see him too! such excitement!

alrighty.... well i can't think of much else that is going on in my life. i've rather enjoyed updating. it wasted a good halfhour anyway. i expect to see comments since i was coerced into updating in the first place. love to you all.

SOOOOOOOOOOO yes i do in fact have a philosophy final tomorrow morning but really i have no urge to study. but yet i am so incredibly bored. so since i've had all of this time to ponder on this issue while i was compulsively cleaning our entire room (yes i am that distracted) i realized why finals suck so much (at least for me, the usual overachiever). it is because even when i am taking a break or just screwing around, i am weighted down by this guilt that i SHOULD be studying. so even my break is not enjoyable because i'm so preoccupied by classes. GAH and that is my theory why they suck. altho it sounded a lot more insightful in my mind. oh well. ya'll will have to listen to my ramblings on here until

1. B calls

2. i am struck by the urge to study

3. i frantically realize that i have to study if i want to finish with an A in that class.

or 4. i go to sleep.

probably going to be #4.  but here goes until then.... my life.

classes finally ended, thank goodness. kinda crazy though to think that my freshman year is over. i've spent some time looking back over it and have realized how much i have changed.  there've been some shitty times, crap i've had to deal with and do that i hoped i never would have to. but i've grown stronger, louder, and more confident. i know it's not all about the grade anymore. i've learned that naps are the most valuable and hard to come by things in the world. i've realized that even tho my english teachers sucked, i am definitely an english major because i still love reading. i've loved, i've learned more about myself in deep conversations than i ever knew i could figure out. of course, not everything that happened this year has been great, but i'd say i came out ahead overall. not just my life here, but even at home. i'm so much closer to my mom than i ever thought i would be and that really makes me tear up with happy tears. so that's pretty good to know. my classes were kinda dull. i wonder half of the time why i even came to UD now that the first semester excitement of being here has worn off. oh well, maybe once i get into some english classes with professors who actually teach, i'll start to like it more. i am already dreading junior poet though.  but alas, those worries are for another day. i'm going to rome in the spring, which makes me very happy. going in the fall just would not have been enjoyable and now i'll get to meet some new ppl.

i had 3 exams on saturday - am civ, german, and astronomy. yay deutsch ist fertig! but i guess part of me will miss it considering i've begun thinking in german half of the time and have to translate to english. i love how the profs waited until the end of the semester to tell me how good i was and how they wished i would continue. woulda been nice to have that encouragement throughout the year during my meltdowns during class because she was picking on me. blah at least it's over. she wants me to spend the summer in germany though... if only. i will miss jodz so much. i realized that during our last class. his 'asides' and the 'vanilla flava in society.' on man i love that guy. who knew history could be fun. granted his tests are ridiculous and no one gets an A, but it was worth it. i am sad that i won't have him again. and that brings me to Dr. O! quite possibly even cooler than Jodz. of course, i prob liked him because we have the same stupid, dorky sense of humor. ah i love it from the schwarzenager story to his star music, he was a classic. and i got an excuse to stare at stars. which, by the way, note to a certain boy who is reading this - we will be up at 3 am on august 12 to watch the meteor shower every year. oh the good things i learned in that class.

i have philosophy exam tomorrow and lit trad on tuesday. which i will fail the lit trad one since, call me crazy, but i can't memorize 50 poems enough that i can sight-spot the title AND author. oh well you win some, you lose some.

i am ready for byron to come home. the sneaky boy tried to surprise me, but me being the genius that i am, figured it out. he really cannot lie to me. but oh it was sweet of him to try. i still do not know exactly when he's getting here, but i can guarantee you there will be running and leaping involved. hopefully not in a public area lol. but oh well looking like an idiot is the price of love. we're going camping on tuesday night with paula and a whole bunch of her firends. that will be great because they're the ppl i'll be going to rome with in the spring.

aaaand i have run out of things to say. my insightfulness about the year has run out becuase i'm tired. and i suppose i shall study for a bit. sigh. i am just ready for it to be done so i can relax and not feel dragged down by knowing i should be working....
