they gave us VoIP phones at work with caller ID. this is great because now
i can screen calls and avoid people who bother me at work by giving me work.

anyways, some movies i need to check out:

bourne ultimatum (matt damon kicking ass)
hot rod (this one looks hilarious)
superbad (just 10 more days)

i DVR'd michael cera on conan last night and watched it before work. this kid
is so funny w/o even having to say much. he can display so many emotions with
just an awkward phrase or look. brilliant

this will be my first year in houston since the NFL came back where it belongs..
i had to watch the inaugural game in austin my freshman year (we beat the dallas
cowboys). i'll be going to a few games this season, and it's hard to not be excited
with a brand new season and a brand new quarterback. it's also hard to not place
unrealistic expectations on a team that hasn't even had a winning season yet.

having said that, we'll make the wild card.

at the rockets playoff game 1.

that 'random guy' was actually hall of famer "tiny" nate archibald.

we thought he was just some dude who wanted to be in every picture, and wanted him out...

but he was there working with the nba to be in all the pictures...

what a day thursday will be. round 2 will be set. rockets vs warriors.

wednesday was supposed to be the game, but there was a huge thunderstorm and
flooding, so they ended up postponing it to thursday, while i was still at work.. so
i had to freakin miss the game but at least we won 2-0 and have a pretty good shot
at the finals now if we play well in mexico. i'm gonna try to switch the tickets out.

work is very tiring, and i wish i were in reno hitting them snows & tables. =(

how long does it take for a person to just get used to less sleep than they've been
used to for 4 years? i'm sleeping around the same amount i slept in high school yet
i am so much more tired for some reason..

xanga used to be something i could use to kill time back in college because everyone
used to post and there was actually something to read. now there aren't as many and
it forces me to work more. facebook is a lot less fun cuz there are no posts and i don't
want to see your (ugly) faces all day long.

speaking of which, can you guess who this girl grew up to be?

i know everyone already knows that the reigning MLS Champion Houston Dynamo
have advanced to the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions' Cup! what an
amazing first round that was, taking a tough road loss in injury time in the first leg
only to win convincingly in true championship fashion 2-0 in the home leg and taking
the aggregate 2-1 against costa rica's Puntarenas!

now it's on to the Mexican club team Pachuca! the game is at Robertson Stadium NEXT
WEDNESDAY at 7:30pm. everyone in town should go, but if you're not, watch it on TV.

this will be my first dynamo game, so i'm pretty hyped.

what else what else.. oh yeah, yao is playing tonight. it's already been over two months
since he has played, i've forgotten how dominant he was before he left. now he will deliver
us to the promised land once again. we've been playing without one of our two best players
people, and he happens to be the best big man in the league, we'll see what happens.

anyone up for vegas over independence day? take thursday and friday off since it's on wedn..

i can't concentrate at work. i need to write about the rockets mavpricks game..
i am completely hung up on last night's game. but let's go into the positives first.

the TC was bumpin' last night. it was as loud and filled as i've seen in a regular
season game. the uppers were completely packed as usual, and so were the
baselines and up. the sidelines were ridiculously empty as usual, but i guess it
wasn't as bad against the mavs. it was LOUD at the exciting points in the game,
i.e. luther two handed dunk, t-mac and1 dunk, t-mac threes, etc..

the m-v-p chant got really loud after during his and1 dunk free throw (more
on this later). i even enjoyed the fact that there were quite a few mavs fans in
the crowd who cheered pretty loud when dirk hit those back to back threes
(it was pretty damn loud), because it's just more fun when it's competitive,
even amongst the crowd.

the rowdies really got the crowd going on some chants. the usual 'who's your
daddy' chants for battier is good (i especially love the commercial where battier
dances like a total dork during that chant). someone brought this picture of dirk
(link) drunk blown up on a poster, and it was awesome. i guess a new tradition
is when they play the instrumental to "ballin'", everyone does the sign and yells
BALLIN' at the same time. but i digress. the Flopper chant for Nodickski is
always a good one, and most of the times it applies to BeadyEyes Howardjosh
and Blackjet Terrygum (moes' story on CF).

i thought our defense was excellent for the most part. we didn't lose our composure
going down by 9 in the first half, and ended on a 11-0 run to take the lead into
the 2nd quarter. we kept Terrygum in check for most (most..) of the game and
ususally he is the rockets killer. we kept the mavs from pulling away even though
we couldn't pull away either. props to their defense down the stretch. we played
well enough to win this game and we didn't.

'here's what i'm burning on'. the decision making down the stretch was inexcusable.
no chance in hell should luther head be our shooter going down the stretch. i know
he hits big shots and god i love lutha but he can't shoot that dumbass bank runner
that he threw up there inside 10 seconds. yes, t-mac was double teamed about
30 feet from the basket, and he had to pass it out. luther needed to catch and shoot,
or pass it out again. he just isn't a shooter off the dribble. he can't do it. he catches,
sets, and shoots. he'll make the occasional running shot, but put those up against
his catch and shoot numbers. there's a reason he doesn't attempt many shots off the
dribble. the guy CAN'T dribble. it's okay, he's a shooting guard, but damn.. t-mac
shooting a 50 foot hook shot is better IMO, we need t-mac to shoot the ball no
matter what. we should've had a better play to spring mcgrady for a chance to get
away from the double team off the ball.

rafer can't shoot that three after the offensive rebound with around a minute left.
you gotta be out your damn mind jacking up that three AFTER we get a fresh 24
WITH a defender all up in your face! what are you doin?! a few plays earlier he
drove to the basket and tried his little stupid jump wrap around pass which always
gets picked, unreal. he's usually good about his turnovers, and averages out to be
just that, an average shooter. but damn! the mistakes he commits kills us! i don't
understand why he feels the need to jack up a three pointer after every offensive
rebound. here's a clue, reset the play, run something for your best player.

bonzi, what the hell. he's been playing better as of late, but he needs to finish
better. he's got to get his fat butt into shape and learn to finish harder. i'm tired
of soft layups. he needs to go up hard and dunk the damn ball. he got a push
from the back on that one layup that he missed. that needed to be a throw
down. t-mac was diving on the floor after looseballs and bonzi was giving a
half assed effort on that play. that was a crucial possession, and that's why
he probably found himself on the bench for the finish. he plays well when he
wants to. no one from the mavs could stop bonzi on the offensive end. he needs
to work harder on defense. devan harris? terrygum? stackhouse? they can't
hang with bonzi on the post! keep yourself on the court bonzi.

where the hell were all of our timeouts? bad management of the game, although
i could argue that the timeouts we did take were necessary in making the
necessary adjustments to keep us in position to have a play at the end.
but we needed a timeout badly with 4.2 seconds left. and that was a bad
play we ran for a possible tying shot. we needed a longer pass and even
though a longer pass might be more risky, we need to take a risk and hope
that one of our guys comes down with it and gets a shot off. vangundy takes
timeouts when they are needed, when the flow of the game favors the other
team, when we're making mistakes, when we need adjustments. we needed
to have taken one less timeout, and it would've been different with mac on
our team.

you've got to know your opponent. we all know stack is a streak scorer. if
he gets hot, he'll keep chuckin' em if he's in the game. that's what he's in there
for, instant offense off the bench. as much as i hate that whorebag, he's still a
legit scorer off the bench. he's led the nba in scoring before, jesus. we let him
he back to back threes, we can't allow that. i think we did a good job containing
him afterwards, but he shouldn't have been left so wide open so many times.
as for nodickski, what can you say, he's a great shooter. it's hard to guard his
fadeaways because if he you get close to him he'll flop and get calls. not to mention
he is 7 feet tall and has amazing touch. it all work into his advantage. he was not
as good as he could be last night, but still a lot of his good shots weren't touching
rim. everyone in the crowd knew (we all screamed to watch for the three) as he
was bringing the ball up after his second three. if you watch the mavs you know
dirkendouche and the mavs love to capitalize on runs on the road. after he hit that
first three, if they got the ball back on a rebound or TO, you know he's looking
for a big shot. you've got to step up when dirk is bringing the ball up. you can't
sag back. he's too good from out there and you can't get in his face if you're 6
inches shorter and 4 feet back. make him drive, put him on the ground.

it's easy to blame the game on missed free throws, and i do think if we hit our
foul shots we would've won the game. but we didn't. and they did. 9 for 9. they
pretty much indian gave that game. wrapped it up, put it on a tray, and yanked it
away. it would've been a statement game going into the break. it's so easy to forget
that we still have the number 1 center/MVP candidate (pre injury) in yao still on
the pine. i can't wait to see what we're going to do in the playoffs. we will do some
serious damage once everyone gets cooking. since the mavs feel like nodickski and
howardjosh are their 2 'all stars', then i guess having yao out is the equivalent of
the mavs playing without dirkendouche. i don't think the mavs would be doing as
well as we are w/o dirkendouche as we do w/o yao. there's no chance in hell.
no one expected the rockets to be where we are when yao went down. they will
feel the wrath when he comes back. and he will come back. and soon.

i've been going to pretty much one game a week since i've been down here, and
it's been a blast. i guess it is a perk to being in houston.

in some other news.. work is work. don't really know what much else to say. it can
be stressing at times staring at a computer for so long (like i'm doing now =P) and
being in 8 hour meetings. but i like it overall. working long hours is hard, but i've been
receiving my paychecks and it makes me feel better. but living for money seems very
unfulfilling, although it does help. i can understand those stories i hear of people and
how they don't like their lives/job because it's unfulfilling. i guess when we dont' live
out our 'purpose driven life' then it can be very unsatisfying life. dae says work can be
a means to an end, and i guess i'm still in a search for something more satisfying outside
of work in houston. and no, it won't be the rockets, even though they are a big deal to
me. yesterday i met a guy who had a rockets tattoo, and bought one thing from the
shop everytime he went to a game. that's a lot of money. maybe nlf will help me find
that purpose, as in i'm hoping God will reveal to me that purpose through nlf, or some
other medium, maybe through pax. i usually hate to log in to see xanga pages cuz i think
that's gay that they don't want me stalking their xanga, but i had to log in to pax cuz i
hadn't been there in so long. but it was some lame valentine's day post which i thought
was not a fun read. a usual off-the-mark post from pax. why is it 'a usual' and 'an unusual'?
or is it 'an usual'? i don't know. but it's okay cuz i still mooch off his espn insider. if
you're bored during the day, you can log in to googlechat and you will see sukhee on
all day long. i miss playing basketball with simon peter. basketball was cancelled this
past wednesday and i hope it wasn't cuz it was valentine's day. that'd be lame. i hope
during playoff time that johnny phil and ray will drive down for all the games.

these chinese kids that my parents taught on their mission trip to china are in america
to visit. they are staying at my house. two high school guys. they speak korean because
they are of korean descent. but they live in china. we asked what they wanted to do
while they were in houston, and they said they wanted to see yao ming. yao is a hero to
everyone in china i guess. (i'm sure little german boys would rather see the Hoff than dirk.)
i told my parents that yao is in vegas this weekend for the all star game, so they won't get
a chance to meet him (i'm not sure how they would anyways), but i think we're going to
take them to Yao Restaurant and Bar, haha.

i've put off creating material requisitions and updating trackers for long enough..
back to work.

quick update from the workdesk for a matter of great significance.

i must urge all of you who do not currently own an xbox360 to go out and buy one.
not only that, you must also sign up for xbox360 LIVE, which is only a miniscule
$4 dollars a MONTH!

i bring this up because i'm about to go pick up my pre-ordered copy of Winning
Eleven 2007 during my lunch break, and i need more people to play me online...

if soccer doesn't float your boat, on 2/20/07 Crackdown and NBA Street Homecourt
are coming out, which should both be awesome. if that's not enough, in April i believe,
Guitar Hero 2 is coming on xbox360 with online play capabilities! so screw the PS2
version. on TOP of that, later this year will be the release of Halo3 and the fourth game
from Grand Theft Auto.

so if you got a job (pax, soo, suk, andy, chibong) or if you've had a job a job before
and saved money (phil, bryan) go buy one. or ask your parents. don't forget madden
and nba2k7! yaggers and sbc people too!

no corny reflection post, except to say that college was awesome. i will definitely
miss UT and austin and the people i love who i will be leaving.. forever... i'll be
starting work at Bechtel january 15th, so yeah, i'll post again to let you guys how
that all goes.. very fortunate to get a great job with a great company..
whew~ thank you God.. (yeah i'm sure you've never heard of it either.. only
nanumo and phil know it)

i'll be living at home for now, which means i'll pretty much have no bills... at all...
so come visit houston and i'll hook it up, no joke.

i've got a final tomorrow at 9am, which is ridiculous because i already walked for
graduation but i need to get a 38.5 on this final to actually 'graduate'.. damn UT,
just let me go.. that's why i'm writing this, because i'm bored.. nintendo DS time
coming soon. if you ain't got one yet, better get one now, or you'll be left out.
