So how's everyone doing?

I expected my social life to change when work started, but I'm surprised at how much exactly. As I'm slowly getting the hang of things, I'm meeting a lot of friends at and around work. I hang out with colleagues and industry contacts more than my old friends from before work. Jenny's still permanently on my 'last 5 numbers dialled' list, but I've had difficulty making time even to see my parents, much less all the old friends. Back when I was a bum, I couldn't make enough friends. But now that my free time has been drastically slashed to a mere fraction of what it was before, it's almost a matter of 'MSN, work lunch, or BUST!'

But I'll always love you guys. Just because I haven't been camping on your doorstep like I used to, it doesn't mean I'm not always thinking about hanging out. I just really haven't found a way to fit it in yet.

Football!
My first account at the new company involves football. Something I neither knew nor cared about. At first. The first day on the job, I was handed the keys to a safekeeping box, which I thought I'd get to keep personal stuff in. When I opened it, however...

Me: It's filled with junk!
Football-loving colleague: What? It's not junk! Anyway please take good care of those.
Me: Boy, there are a lot of footballs in here. Wait, there's a bunch of signatures on this one...
F-LC: Yeah.
Me: Whose signatures are these?
F-LC: Barcelona.
Me: That's not a who, that's a where.
F-LC: No, as in Barcelona...
Me: Oh wait. Is there a Barcelona football team?
F-LC: ... Yes.

(Almost) a month has passed since I joined. And many football conversations later, I'm slowly but surely picking up a few things about football. While far from understanding the game, at least I no longer ask how to spell famous players' names. And more importantly, I'm getting a better understanding of the rivalry.

Vive le epidemic?

Holy shit I'm busy.
Everything's being neglected and I'm a horrible, horrible friend. Unless, you know, you work really near where I work, in which case we get food together sometimes and I'm an okay friend. But other than that, it's pretty much work, sleep, work, sleep, repeat cycle. Lunch breaks (and dinner breaks when working late) make up about 90% of my social life now. It's happened, just like everyone said it would. So ARE YOU HAPPY NOW arrrrgh.

Vanilla ice cream in the freezer (tastes weird, like they used milk substitute instead of actual milk)
My iPod, which makes the work commute oh-so-bearable
Grim Fandango & The Sims 2
All the old friends I'm blessed with (all of us now career slaves and thus unable to meet except rarely. But I love you guys still and miss hanging out [like we used to all day when some of us were still bums]!)
Mom made grilled salmon for my breakfast!
My socks. I haven't lost one in the past 5 years.
I just realised I haven't even started on the new DVDs that FS gave me last week!
Holy shit I love my job
That Ribena and Chinese tea are increasingly popular mamak options.

Today is a mid-week holiday and I get the house all to myself!
We stocked up on lots of apple juice. (someone drank it all!!!)
I just got 3 new CDs for reviewing: 'Dreaming Out Loud' by One Republic, 'Discipline' by Janet Jackson and 'Sleep Through the Static' by Jack Johnson.

When you first start commanding a salary,
you can't help but hatch a few diabolical plans. Finally an update for your computer, some repairs for the car, or maybe something I don't need even nearly as badly, like new bags (because why the hell not).

Unfortunately, the first paycheck will pretty much go into buying work clothes.

Oh by the way, am I the only one who gets vegetable cravings?
