    A dent...

My mom came over to help me work in R's room. We worked for about four hours and had two bags of donations, a bag of trash and had only managed the closet and one quarter of the room!! It is just full of stuff! I don't think we've gotten rid of anything in a long, long time.

Tomorrow is the day. Comicon. Woohoo.  We need to take it slow and try not to tire ourselves out. There are going to be ALOT of people there. Folks come dressed up as comic characters, Anime and Manga people and movie stars. It's wild. Everything is for sale, you get loads and loads of free stuff. Advertising stuff, DVD's and CD's for people. You can go to Artist Alley and have cartoonists draw in a sketch pad for you. Upstairs in the galley is gaming, Star Trek and Star Wars meetings and sword fighting.

Went to R's football orientation tonight. The Pres. who was talking was little Suzie Sunshine. NOT It's like she was talking to new people, but not. It seemed to be a long litany of all the things you could do wrong and would result in your child NOT playing football. Rules and Regulations of the league and penalty's for any and all infractions, which mostly pertained to not showing up on time or at all for practice.  I've been through some of this for J, when he played Soccer, but she was just Debbie Downer. At least J's Soccer coach was upbeat and like, "This will be fun"  The coach was better. He at least implyed he wanted the children to have fun.

I'm wondering when it will be time for J's orientation to Middle School. Plus, he's taking Saxophone this year, so that should be interesting as well. Even babygirl J will be starting school this year. Maybe we can all get some new clothes for school together. J and R are pretty much all about shorts and t-shirts, so that's not that exciting, but bbgJ might want something cute.

    A little bit crazy

So the boys came back early from their dads. They had both wanted to go to a certain friends house, but the friends mom only wanted one of them to spend the night. M wasn't happy that she only wanted one, but since he's not really a full-time parent, he doesn't have a clue about the energy that goes into having a house full of kids all the time. Besides which, this particular friend of R's parent's are 56 and 60! They already have grown kids and grandkids older than this child. So she just can't do alot of kids, plus her daughter and grandkids were there for a week. Anyway, J and I went to see Hancock. It was funny and very 'superhero' esque. I like Will Smith though, so ...

Today R is still at his friends and J has had me go pick up his other friend. So they're both happy for the time being. This week; COMICON!! Wow, I can't believe how quickly it arrived! It should be fun, and then we can get the head's up on stuff not coming out until next year! We should have bought some Kung Fu Panda stuff last year, and Hellboy and the Dark Knight! Well, this time, we'll know what we're looking for, since we went last year.

It's not as hot as it was last week. Yeay! Doing laundry today. J and his friend want to go to the mall in a bit. I could care less, but I don't want to be gone all day and spend money. Everything cost money. Even just driving the car cost money.

My mom and I went to see Mamma Mia at the movies on Saturday. It was great!! I'm so glad Musicals are back in vogue! Always liked them, but for awhile they seemed trite and no one went to see them. The last successful one was Grease! Then they started making them again and voila! Success. This one was very good!

    Solo

On my own this weekend. Except for my nephew. He is still sleeping @ 10:00. He's almost sixteen so this is normal. Plus, he was up late last night. So was J, but he gets up anyway. R was up before 6:30. M came at 8:00, so they were ready, but I was still sleeping.

I'd really love to see Mama Mia this weekend. I also want to see some other things though, so we'll see. Watching a movie I rented. Need to wash the car, inside and out, that's what my nephew is for! Anyway, I need to try to keep him busy. I also have laundry to do.

We're making slingshots at church tomorrow. Maybe J (nephew) can help, or not...

It's overcast today. Good car washing weather.

    Ouch

The boys went for a doctor's appt. They discovered they needed shots and blood drawn.  They were not happy... They did fine though. J will definetely be sore tomorrow though, since he got a tetanus. R needed a physical for football. We all need to lose weight. Big surprise.  I tried to turn in the paperwork to the guy from PW at the High School weight room, but nothing but a cute JV coach and his players there. He'll be there tomorrow and I'll finally be done with all the 'stuff' for football.  This is only the second sports endeavor we've attempted. The first was a short lived 'Soccer Mom' status. Oh well, maybe J will play baseball or learn to golf. He didn't really want to do a sport what with impending Middle School and saxophone. First time instrument deal too! We have a piano, but haven't gotten the children lessons yet. J wanted to learn to play guitar at one point, maybe he will want to try that too, this year?

Yesterday I purchased some life insurance. It was long past due, I want the children to be okay if something should happen to me.  It comes with all kinds of suplemental things. Dental, eyecare, chiropractic and hearing. I still need to get some health insurance.  Need to get the car smogged and registered. Do massive amounts of laundry, again! etc. etc. etc.

Hung out with R's friend's mom yesterday. She's interesting. very talkative and energetic. She is also a Sagitarius. Her birthday is the same day as my maternal grandmother's was. The kids swam and then we went to try to finish registering for the football and ate at Fatburger.

Today I drove through Taco Bell, I swear everyone working in the food service this week is brand spanking new, or completely useless! I'm sad to say this, but lots and lots of them, do not speak very much English. Now, I speak both English and Spanish, but I think if you're going to work at a job where you are waiting on the general public, you should be able to speak the most widely used languages in the area. My speaking Spanish is an asset, but also pretty much essential to my getting a job in my city. It's about 70'% Latino, so I get that speaking Spanish is important, but dude's this IS the U.S. I know English isn't the OFFICIAL language of America, but it's the one most widely used for the last 230 years.  In Southern California, one is used to having everything be very Spanish in nature. It's what I love about California. You could travel to other parts of the country and it would be impossible to buy good rolled tacos, a carne' asada burrito or a fish taco to save your life. That's the truth. America isn't primarily white, by any means, on the contrary it's got huge areas of the population, where almost nobody speaks English. Large Vietnamese communities, Mexican, Chinese or Japanese, Polish, Swedish or Cuban, etc. Each place has it's own special regional food.

I had to laugh before when Bush said something about people from other places assimilating to America's way of life? Which part, dude? New Orleans? Massachussetts? Utah? Florida? Cape Cod? Boston? or California? See what I mean, America isn't ONE way, so how can we expect people to assimilate?  Regardless, I still think if you are going to wait on Americans in America, you should speak some English. Just a little.

Quotes

There's one sad truth in life I've found While journeying east and west - The only folks we really wound Are those we love the best. We flatter those we scarcely know, We please the fleeting guest, And deal full many a thoughtless blow To those who love us best. ~Ella Wheeler Wilcox**** *Giving up doesn't always mean you are weak; sometimes it means that you are strong enough to let go. ~Author Unknown **Relationships are like glass. Sometimes it's better to leave them broken than try to hurt yourself putting it back together. ~Author Unknown ***Having is not so pleasing a thing as wanting, it may not be logical but it is often true. ~Mr. Spock, Star Trek **Men for the sake of getting a living forget to live. ~Margaret Fuller **Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are. ~Chinese Proverb
