| Funny and notI was just watching a show on Discovery channel, and part of it was about this guy (I can't remember his name but he's some kind of inventor/genius) and he's trying to figure out a way to live forever. I just smiled real big and chuckled to myself and thought, "The man has probably heard the gospel and rejected it. Funny how I have eternal life, and he, being a genius, doesn't." But it's also not funny at all. | | |
| IncomprehensibleI was just preparing for a Sunday school lesson I'm teaching this Sunday on the topic of God's incommunicable attributes. (I'm teaching from Grudem's book Bible Doctrine, which is a sort of condensed version of his Systematic Theology.) I'm always excited to study God's incommunicable attributes because my mind is always brought to a point of being utterly undone (along with my heart too sometimes). I think my favorite attributes of His to think about are his eternal existence and omnipresence. He always was, and the word "was" isn't even able to bracket His eternal existence backwards. So before anything was created, there was only Him, not even nothingness existed. So that makes me think that in some incomprehensible sense, we are all inside of Him (though trying to think spatially will probably promote inaccuracies); there is not even nothingness outside His presence. My hands typing this stuff are doing so in His presence. I can speak to Him now -- I don't need to travel to the uttermost parts of the earth in order to meet with Him. No one can escape Him! I think too, that his omnipresence helps me understand an aspect of redemption: specifically, that sin cannot simply be removed from His presence (since there's not even nothingness outside His presence) but rather it must be dealt with fully inside of His presence. In other words, because of His omnipresence, He could only deal with sin by bearing it and by eternally punishing it. I don't know -- I sense a connection there between His omnipresence and eternity and the way He deals with sin, but I can't word it right. Plus these wasabi peas I'm eating are completely throwing my senses off track. | | |

| TeslaNikola Tesla is such a cool dude (or WAS such a cool dude.) He understood things that I'm pretty certain I will never understand about electricity and magnetism and stuff. He is such an inspiration to me though. I would love to pursue deeper knowledge in that field of science and make discoveries and cool inventions and stuff. He had this thing set up where if you put a light bulb on the ground near his lab it would light up! And he knew how to harness energy from everywhere -- he once hooked a mysterious box up to an electric car motor, said "We now have power," and drove the car around for like two weeks (allegedly), sometimes up to 90mph. When he was asked how he did that, he said something like, "I'm just using the energy that's all around us." He definitely knew something that probably nobody else today knows. Anyway, MIT has free course materials online, so maybe I'll try to go through some of the graduate courses myself and see if I can learn some of this electromagnetism stuff. Anyone want to fund my research? Haha. If I ever did discover anything, I would give God the glory. His understanding is beyond measure, and the things that I could only ever hope to understand, He understands fully. | | |
