Currently Watching: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Food for thought.

Reading the review of the latest grisly torture movie, I found the last few thoughts very interesting and provoking.

    About "Captivity"

"But this film isn't merely punctuation. It also may serve as inspiration. Writing for mtv.com, film critic Larry Carroll says the movie "could be seen as a how-to lesson in the kidnapping of a modern celebrity. ... Its depiction of an imperiled model/actress does raise a startlingly thought-provoking question: Could this really happen?"

Are you absolutely, positively and unequivocally convinced that watching movies would never make you or anyone in your family stalk, abduct, imprison, torture, rape and murder someone? Most of us are. Which raises one of entertainment's core questions of morality: Should we use that confident self-possession to give ourselves permission to wrap ourselves up in—just for fun—the very ideas and images that might cause someone else to lose his or her social and moral balance, and do something unspeakable?

For if we spend an afternoon or evening casually submitting ourselves to the close confines of Captivity's ideals, have we not crossed some sort of a line in our own minds? In our own hearts?

In Jesus' impassioned sermon on the mount (recorded in Matthew 5), He said, "You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. ... You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell."

Obviously, thoughts matter. Sticks and stones break bones. And words and pictures can cause just as much damage. The things we see over the rim of our popcorn box fill up our minds and our souls just as surely as malt balls and Jujubes fill our stomachs."

It also brings to mind a verse, "For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them."       Prov. 1:32

Currently Reading: Sole Survivor

It is I. It's been awhile, hasn't it?

So my New England trip went very nicely. We went to NYC, Boston, Newport,  Providence, 6 Flags, POTC 3, and that awesome little coffee shop Rachel has in her town. Wish I had one of those...

 Some of the highlights:

~~ NYC period. Central Park is amazing, Phantom was amazing (although I still liked Ted Keagan better interestingly enough), and the ride back to Grand Central Station from the Majestic Theatre on a bicycle with a sort-of 3 seater carriage on the back...I don't know how else to describe it. It was hilarious!

~~ Rachel and I finding that mysterious little trail in the woods aka the Dark Enchanted Forest (Hank anyone?   ). It was amazing! And taking those hilarious little videos on our cameras...

~~ Dressing up with Chris as pirates and going to the Providence Mall. Everyone else was too chicken to dress up with us.

~~ Meeting some more people at Rachel's church who I had never met and meeting Emily!

~~ Going to the amazazing little coffee shop and having a girl talk with Wachel. We always have those talks there. Not sure why! lol

~~ Hanging out with Matt, Marc, Emily and Chris at Uno's and that amazing smoothie I had...

~~ Kudos to Rachel for introducing me to Boys Like Girls, Hoobastank, and Flyleaf.

I totally splurged on the way back home and bought 3 Cd's... The Soundtrack for "At World's End", Flyleaf, and Good Charlotte's new CD "Good Morning Revival." I love all 3 of them. I LOVE Good Charlotte. And Flyleaf. And Apocalyptica.

I ended up with 3 free round trip plane tickets plus a food voucher for the airport because I volunteered to go on a later flight! I so glad I did because I got to see Julie and Laura and ran around Boston again with Matt, Emily, Rachel, Laura,  Julie, and the Yokel's minus Marc.

I saw Rise of the Silver Surfer the other day even though I hadn't seen the first F4 movie. It was good, albeit too short feeling. I'm not used to 90 minute movies anymore. Give me 2/ 2+ hours! I want to see Evan Almighty, Nancy Drew (yes yes I KNOW!), 1408, and Ocean's 13.

Everyone recommend to me laptops that they've had at least a yr......I don't know what to get. I just need something simple.

Ok, I think I'm done now.

Currently Watching: Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

I think I had something to write about the other day  but now I don't recall what  it was.... Happens all the time....

I'm getting my applications to Boyce filled out and such. They have one heck of an admissions list! Gosh. I reallllly hope that the fact that I'm not a technical membor of my church (been a faithful part of the congregation for almost a yr and a half) is not going to cause a problem. And it's hard finding people who know me well enough to fill out my recommendation forms. I need 3 of them. Most of the people who know me well enough are people who don't count, per se. Anyway, I'm a little worried that they won;t accept me. *sigh* I would cwy.

I'm watching Elizabethtown. I love it. I love Kirsten Dunst with the Southern accent! She's adorable. And obviously I like O. Bloom. But it's a movie with comedy and heart to it.....and not just a crass romance.
