see relatedTwo posts in a month. What can I say? I just haven’t been in the mood to blog and the few times I was in the mood I simply didn’t have the time. So let me think….what is the big stuff going on right now……
Joshua started his first season of soccer last week and it looks like he is going to enjoy this more than he did T-ball. There is a lot more moving around involved in soccer and we all know how kids that age love to run around. Plus soccer is much simpler to learn than baseball and it surprises me that I never thought of this before. In baseball you have to learn how to hit a small, round ball with a long, skinny, round bat. Then you have to learn how to run the bases, when to steal, when to go for a double, etc. Its complicated stuff. Then you have to learn how to play the field. You have to learn how to play your position and catch the little round ball as it is traveling at a high rate of speed and then you have to learn how to throw it accurately. As if that wasn’t enough you then have to learn where to throw it which is probably one of the most important yet hardest to learn aspects of the whole game. For example, the ball is hit to left center field and you pick it up. Do you throw it to second to hold the runner at first? Do you throw it to the cut-off guy and let him decide what to do? Do you hold it in hopes that the runner will try to advance a base and then you can try to throw him out? Try cramming that into the heads of three and four year olds. Trust me it doesn’t fit. I’m 33 and I still don’t know how to do all that, lol. On the other hand, you can teach soccer with a six word sentence, “kick the ball in the goal”. If you say that to a four year old often enough they will remember it. Now they may not always kick it into the right goal but if they are kicking into any goal then you’ve done a pretty good job of teaching them the basics of soccer. Obviously it gets more complicated than that as you get older and your skills improve but in the beginning it’s pretty simple. Their first game is this Saturday (it’s a double header) so we will see how much they’ve managed to learn in four practices. I’m sure it will be a train wreck, albeit a fun one, lol.
Melissa sent me a shocking email the other day. I’ve mentioned going back to college a few times over the last three or four years, just kind of thinking out loud and to gauge Melissa’s reaction to the idea. She would never really say much but I always got the impression she wasn’t real enthused with the idea. I mean I can understand why. She would have to work all day and then come home and take care of the kids by herself all evening at least two or three times a week. It’s not all that hard but it gets old and tiring pretty fast. Anyway, we had some friends over to our house and we somehow ended up on the subject of college. They were pretty gung ho about trying to motivate me to go back and get a degree. I told them I was all for it but I didn’t think Melissa would go for the idea. They told me they would work on her. I don’t know what they did but she emailed me and said “why don’t you check and see what the tuition rates are at a couple of the local colleges?” I was pretty surprised. We talked a little bit about it and I told her that it would be a pretty big inconvenience for her but she said she knows how unhappy I am in my current job and that a degree would help me to find something I like better so if it’s what I want she is willing to do it. Now I have to answer that question that seems to torment us all…..what do I want to do for the rest of my life?
Speaking of Melissa, her Weight Watchers program is going really well. She has lost a total of 22 pounds so far and is still hard at it. She probably would have lost a lot more than that by now but in early February she developed tendonitis in one of her ankles and the doctor told her absolutely no exercising on it. She had to stay off of it for four weeks and even now she doesn’t work out quite as hard as she was when she first started. But every day it feels a little better and she feels more confident in it so she should be back to normal in a few more weeks. She sticks to the eating regimen like a fanatic which probably does her as much good as the exercising. I honestly didn’t think she would stick with it this long. I’m proud of her.
As usual I’m out of time before I’m out of things to write about so I will try to get up another post soon. Probably next week sometime. Until then everyone take care…..

My son tried soccer and hated it, I hated it too, and he was constantly running, looking at me to make sure I was watching, and wouldn't pay attention! He just wasn't aggressive enough for it...............So we like baseball best!
that's really great that Melissa supports your school idea, now you have that part off your conscience, so GO fOR IT!
What kind of exercising is she doing? I have started back on a program too, just walking so far.........That's awesome 22 lbs though! My goal is 28, It's feeling unatainable right now! I wish I hadn't of slacked off all winter now!
