If the Bible is the armory, the Holy Spirit is the weapons instructor.

I'd say you've read Ephesians 6:10-20.

Yes, the sword of the spirit is the Word of God. But interestingly, in addition to this weapon (and the weapon of prayer), we are also equipped with defensive armor. Our armor (our protection) is not so much the word of God as it is our appropriation and practice of the our faith:

We gird our loins with the belt of truth (the truth we know holds all the armor together)
We put on the breastplate of righteousness (the purity of our walk protects our very life)
We walk in the preparation of the gospel of peace (we are trained to share the gospel)
We take up the protective shield of faith (our trust in God extinguishes Satans' flaming arrows -- the attacks of Satan are overcome by our trust in God), and
We wear the helmet of salvation (our awareness of our salvation protects our ability to think clearly)

Here's my question: if the Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit, how aggressive do you think God wants us to be in wielding the Word?

"Holy Spirit is the weapons instructor." HA! That's great.

As for defensive armor, a good swordsman can best defend himself with his sword. I would venture to say that all the others are grounded in His Word. I love Laserlawyer's question.

My first thought after I read your question was ~ "Sock it to me."

I'll never forget when I literally felt a Power in front of me when the doctor got very verbal and mad at me when I asked him to write a letter to Benny Hinn relating to how he saw me that day (healed).... I couldn't believe my ears at what was coming out of his mouth and then suddenly I realized SOMEONE standing in front of me... such a POWER... and the words the doc was saying was just bouncing off my SHIELD... they did not hit me at all.  JESUS IS LORD!!  Shout it from the rooftops!!!  ~Carolyn

You are prepared for battle, no matter what comes your way. It is more than enough, but will we allow it to be? That is the ultimate question.

John 1:1 tells us  "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

John 1:14 tells us "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."

The Word is Christ, as the Sword, He is our weapon of strength and the bible, the armory were we go for re-enforcement.

I would say that another weapon we have is worship because through worship we declare the truths of God´s Being out loud before all powers and principalities that may be listening.  But then, if the songs are Biblically based, then worship is just another way of wielding our swords.

If you are saying that the Logos of God is the sword, amen! Jesus Christ is the Logos and there is no more powerful weapon than His name.

Yes, the Bible would be the armory, that place where we equip ourselves to wield the Sword.

"Welcome to the armory." It's actually a phrase I say to myself often when I'm praying. "Ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you." "If any of you is lacking... ask..."

What a storehouse and variety of equipment. God supplies the tools necessary for every battle, spiritual and internal.

God also supplies the training necessary to use the sword to victory. One must just attend class regularly and be willing to accept the instruction.

Chef - Great one. I might have to quote you.

Pyro - LOL. Yep. But you know, that's not the only passage where the armor is talked about.

Laser - Trick question: "if the Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit, how aggressive do you think God wants us to be in wielding the Word?" --- I've posted in the past about how to deal with tempation and how to deal with Satan (two very different things). I say this is a trick question because we don't wield the sword at all. I think we delude ourselves if we credit ourselves with such power. Now I know that sounds bizzare, but my thought here is, God is in control. I don't think of it as wielding the sword so much as being willing to give the sword the sovereign authority (which is already has, we just have to acknowledge it) to act on our behalf. Please don't think I'm saying we don't participate - we must. I'm just saying, we aren't the one's in charge. If we submit to the authority of the sword, we will be on the winning side.  ..........  No to take a more practical look at offensive vs. defensive modes, I'd say there are a lot more defensive items listed in Eph 6 than offensive, and in fact the sword is not just on offensive weapon, but also a powerful defense. Ronald Reagan used WMD as a defensive weapon in the cold war - and won. I don't think we need to pick fights, there's enough to worry about without doing that, but when the fight comes to us, best to be well armed with sharp and strong weapons.

Jam - You made my answer a lot shorter. I should have just told Laser to see yours. LOL.

Carolyn - Amen.

Patrick - Keep rollin' along.

Brad - Yes. You understand it. Thank you.

Grace - You see it also. Excellent.

Gordon -

Mary - That reminds me of a very popular song right now. Not sure who sings it, but its the one about all the believers everywhere singing Glory Glory Halelujah He Reigns. I love that song. Its in my personal top 10. I really need to know who sings it.

Pheebles - Yes!

Agent Orange - That actually reminds me of the Matrix, specifically the scene where they go into the computer to "load out".

Tina -

Gandy - Yep.

Lux - No, I don't think so. Satan is the enemy. The powers and principalities of the is world. Sin isn't the enemy per se. Sin is what happens when the enemy wins one.

Steve -

Queen - Amen.

Sharon - Amen.

I'd say no.  I don't agree at all.  I'm *partly* with GraceThru God... but... no.

Where she is right in that Christ is the Word (John 1:1,14) and Hebrews 4:12 and Ephesians 6:17 confirms that God/Christ/Spirit is the Sword that rightly divides asunder... but if the Bible is the 'armory', as your statement says - the source of God/Christ/Spirit, it means they are confined within, and I don't believe that.

The source of Truth is both the Bible and the Spirit - which is why we are to worship in both Spirit and in Truth (John 4:23-24)... for both are accessible places (or 'armories') for us to strengthen our faith from.

I think the wording is just a big muddle.  Weird, weird, weird.  Pardon my ickiness, but... harmph.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Anna. I knew I could count on you for an utterly different perspective   - LOL. Well, it was a what if question anyway. In humble defense of my feeble mental wandering, it seems to me the sword is the sword no matter where it is found. The armory is a place where a lot of people keep theirs. If they don't take it out, then of what value is it in the good fight? The value of the armory is to come and get sharpened, polished, and trained in the use of all the equipment. Of course there's nothing like experience. The armory sharpens the mind, but the Spirit gives you the real practical experience on the battlefield.

I completely agree with your comment (over on my site). The Word of God is the Sword of the SPIRIT. Its not our sword. He is the One who wields it properly. Of course, we are the vehicle through which He does that. That's why it says in Ephsians that we are to "take" the sword of the Spirit.
