MATURITY ≠ INDEPENDENCE
Rather than give you something to read today, I want to offer you something to watch. It is a 32 minute video on the subject of missions. Galactica is fun. Bible study has value. Missions are vital and incredibly important to my heart. I know some of my regulars think I don't have much use for the church, and indeed I don't have much use for the "c" church as a human institution, but the universal "C" Chuch, the bride of Christ, is of ultimate importance. Please, I beg you, take the time for this: CLICK HERE.

In case you can't or won't take the time for the video here's a few key points: America is the 3rd most pagan nation on earth followed only by India and China. Africa has as many people who claim to be born again Christians as the whole of Europe and North America combined. The rate of growth of Christianity on the continent of Africa is several million per year while Christianity is declining in "western" (N America/Europe) culture. The American church generally thinks of itself as mature, as a the leader. We mistakenly think maturity means independence. Americans in general feel and act superior and in general think they need to always give and that no one has anything to offer us or that we don't need anything. This creates a one-way mission which is counter-scriptural and damaging to both hemespheres. Part of humility is accepting as well as giving, and every part of the body of Christ has something to offer every other part.

I'm not talking about tolorance and I don't suggest we quit missions. I'm talking about symbiosis, unity and harmony in the united body of the bride of our Lord. Love between brothers is a two-way street. Love is a verb. We need to realize we aren't the whole body, just a part. All parts are vital, and the most humble shall be exulted while the greatest shall be made low.

Humility has a whole new dimension for me. I hope you can take time to listen to what this man has to say...

"A new paradigm missionary" - I am almost always intrigued to hear such servants of God speak.

Thanks!

Agreed - I'm afraid America is under the judgment of God. Corruption, violence, perversion, rebellion, pride and sin of every sort is promoted and celebrated in wester culture.Worse yet, the heart of the western church (small c) is cold - to the point where the church is almost indistinguishable from the rest of society. But there's good news - don't write off India. At a conference recently my pastors got a chance to talk with a church planter in India (northern, I think...) they're growing at an explosive rate - I forget the exact numbers, but they are almost beyond credible. Surely the Spirit of God is still at work, if not in America, then in India and other parts of the world.

Yes I am feeling much better. Especially since I got to crash last night around 1 and slept until 11:30. Thank you.

I'm so glad you got a chance to hear from Oscar. He was probably tied for my favorite speaker at Urbana. I just loved getting to hear about missions and other countries from someone not from the US. I'm also glad you put it on your site, because I doubt much of anyone else who reads my site would watch it, sadly. It's such a good message.

I pray your day goes well, and you find much of God in it!

God bless,
~Scott

But for His grace we would all be under judgement. I don't believe the American church is necesarily in as bad of shape as some make out, but I am referring of course to true followers of Christ many who are classified Christian are not. I rejoice that these other nations are less pagan than us. The question is if the conversion is permanent and genuine. Like men here over time we will know by the genuiness of their fruit if the seed has fallen on good soil.

Great stuff, Lance! I really like the Hawaiian dance...(made me cry), and the Spanish song "Siempre". It's going to take me a bit to get through  the whole thing; I've got to leave in a few minutes for a knee MRI.

Yeah, I remember hearing that the Korean Christian church ( by and large planted through the Presbyterian missions of the 18 and 1900s) had passed the American church for evangelism some time ago.

Robert - Congrats!!!

Gandy - Me too.

Steve - So am I.

Left - It really makes me wonder about some things in my own life and the lives around me...

Jessie -

Scott - Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Life - I'm not surprised. LOL.

Radiant -

Daniel - You raise a good question of course, but if the seeds aren't being planted there's no chance at all regardless of the soil. Africa seems like a fertile place to me.

Cap - Oh... Okay.

Vegan -

Jim - I hope all is well with your knee. God is so much more amazing. I'm reminded of the Tower of Babel story. God has power over language. What he taketh away he can give back at his discretion.

Wow. I never knew about those statistics. About America being the third highest pagan nation. Considering that China and India have way more people then America, that would leave America as the highest pagan nation. What about pecentage of people who are pagans? There seem to be so many pagans here where I study. And in Singapore, it seems to be on the rise among the youths.
