| Last workout post was of last Sunday and Monday night. Following that, Tuesday was a good day at martial arts class. Wednesday was basically off aside from shadowboxing and stretching. Thursday had a good but rough day sparring. Took some shots in the cup. Very demoralizing. Friday was basically off and Saturday was bells, shadowboxing, jumping rope, heavy bag skill sets, where I practiced combinations, heavy bag punch out drills where I hit the bag with strong rapid punches for about 15 seconds, and heavy bag power sets where I just took power shots for about 30-45 seconds. In between each set was bells, jumping rope, shadow boxing and a bit of calm pacing. I threw in some kicks and some stance work.
Sunday we had another butt-kicker. Started out with breathing exercises. Then full joint mobility. Balance drills. Warm-up swings. Tumbling. Parkour vaulting and jumping. Martial art forms. Weapon forms. Turkish get-up circuit with a press and squat each rep. Then windmills. Get-up sit ups. After the strength portion of the workout it was time for endurance. Full man-maker. 10 sets. We were good after that. but did some more.
I made a new sandbag. The 51lber wasn't hardcore enough. I skipped 100lbs and bought 3 bags of gravel to make a 154.5lb bag. I figured I weigh 145 and can deadlift more than double my bodyweight so 150lbs shouldn't be bad. I was very wrong. Especially after the kick butt workout we just had. In hindsight I need to move this portion of the workout closer to the beginning for fatigue safety issues. But it went well. The bag is so unruly it's very hard to pick up. Luckily for our esteems we were all able to lift the bag. It's hard enough to get off the ground but from there you need to roll it up your body and onto your shoulder. All the while keeping your glutes and abs tight to protect your back. This was my first time really lifting such a heavy and awkward object in that manner and I was already spent from the workout so my form may not have been perfect. I basically tried to replicate the form used in the World's Strongest Man competition with the stone lifts. Once we got it up on our shoulders we went for a few laps. Next set we did the other side. This felt great. We really were getting stronger. And afterwards we picked up the 51lber that was heavy the week before and it felt like a baby.
More to come.
