  • Land of the Greed

Just finished reading this    l o n g    article about how banks have come up with all kinds of new way to screw us on our credit cards.

This, after the new “Credit Act” — or whutever it’s called — that was designed to HELP folks tread water.

Way to go, bank-card companies!  That’s the spirit in times of economic stress for the little guy!  After all, you “financiers” only made a 12 BILLION dollar profit last year……

(I blame this disgusting development on these kings of avarice watching too much Reality TV, by the way. That must be where they learned the old “ME FIRST and stab everyone else in the back” credo.)

P.S.  Didn’t I read somewhere awhile back about banks being “bailed out?”  Huh.

On a more cheerful note — the snow is beginning to melt a bit.  Guess I better go clean up the kitchen before someone drops in.

    I’d rather eat SPAM.

  • Thoughts on Winter at Toad Hall

    Huh.

Snow shovel is in the garage because I forgot to get it out on a warmer day.

And now — garage doors are frozen shut.

    Hence — can’t shovel driveway.

Hence — can’t get out of the driveway ’til I have it plowed.

But — can’t pay the guy to plow it until I get to the bank.

    Guess I’ll stay home.

Oh yeah — and my feet are cold.

  • Lost & Found

Lost:  A dear friend of many years to cancer.  I miss her terribly.

Lost:  Angel Dog.  There is yet another empty place here at Toad Hall…

And just as an aside, I’m totally wrung out from losing those I love so dearly.  And that hollow feeling that lives in my chest…

Lost:  A gi-normous amount of “found” money received in the mail.  It had to be returned.  Ah, well.  It’s only money.

Lost:  Motivation & interest.  With any luck, this is temporary.

Lost:  “IamLuke’s” gloves.  But I found them in the back seat of my car.

    Lost:  The month of January.

Found:  The month of February.  And a new appreciation for listening to the “Blues.”

  • Dear Featured Grownups,

    Sigh.

“I am the one who” forgot to do the White Rabbit topic until it was too late.

But maybe that’s because in reality I am not a grownup at all.

Well — except for my hat size.

  • For Sadie

    Goodbye, sweet girl.

You were the best of friends.

    You were my confidant.

You kissed my tears away when the two of us said goodbye to Lin and Diablo.

I miss your Sadie kisses….I miss your Sadie snorts.

I hate getting a whole bagel to myself.

I hate it that guests are no longer announced by excited Sadie yips.

I hate not hearing the pitter-patter of your little feet walking behind me everywhere I go.

I hate it that the house feels so empty without you.

But I know beyond any doubt how lucky I am to have been loved by you.  The LUCKIEST!  For sure.

And though I am ever so grateful that you don’t hurt anymore, I don’t think I will ever stop missing you.

You’re a good dog, Sadie Doodle.  I will always love you.

    Sheltie

March 11:  Thanks ever so much to all for the condolences & hugs.  Some folks find it rather silly to grieve over a dog, so knowing that y’all “get it” is real special.  I’m still waiting for colors to look bright again…

  • Toad Hall at Twilight

Home is always the best place of all, yes?

    Twilight2

Looking from the kitchen window toward LOO-uh-vulle.
That’s the “Grandfather Tree” on the left…an ancient Norway Maple where
the birds come to feed every morning and evening.

    Twilight3

Yeah, I know.  There’s a telephone pole in the middle.  But far from spoiling the photo for me,
it tells of a long ago time when a sweet grandmother lived there in a trailer home and
welcomed a grandson who ran with joy to her front door every morning.
