| FirefightingAlthough I rarely use Xanga any more, I thought I might let people know that... 1. I'm still firefighting. I just got back from a 14-day roll in Northern CA on the Cub Complex fire near Chester, on the Lassen National Forest. 2. I plan on coming back for my final year of PHC this fall. It seems ages since I started PHC, and I've put too much time, effort, and money into it to give it up when I'm so close. ~KW | | |
| Bad NewsIt is almost certain that I will not be returning to PHC this spring. I just don't have the money to do it. I'll return next fall, Lord willing, after one more summer of firefighting. I'm quite disappointed. I'll miss all of you people on campus... especially those that I won't see after you graduate. So... what am I going to do in the meantime? More firefighting and EMT training, odd jobs, and writing. This summer I'm trying to get on either a Hotshot wildland crew, or a 20-man type 2 handcrew. We'll see. I'm still chewing on the idea of being a smokejumper eventually, but that'll depend on what kind of positions I get in the next couple years. So that's that. I wish all of you folks on campus a great semester! ~Kyle | | |
| A gentle reminder...It was an uplifting Christmas here, and I enjoyed the day with my family tremendously. Even so, there is sorrow in the world now, and I was shown some of it today. We responded to a medical call for an elderly man who had gone into hypovolemic shock from passing blood through his bowels. Despite our best efforts, multiple IVs, and four blood transfusions, the gentleman passed away today after going into respiratory arrest. Man knows not his time. All the more reason to thank God for the Savior he sent, whom we celebrated today. ~Kyle | | |
| Glorious weather, wot?9 inches of snow overnight with no sign of it letting up yet. Another half foot predicted tonight. Several calls with the fire dept. for downed power lines and such. | | |
