Currently Watching
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

well, haven't updated in a while ... prob cuz until recently my computer has been having some mood swings and being an ass.  but now it's ok, and we're friends again.

winter break has been good, except that i've spent most of my time working and the rest of the time sleeping because i worked a lot.  oh, and knitting, i've been knitting a lot too, as are most knitter's this time of year.  i made a lot of scarves, it's almost mind-boggling.  now i have to work the stupid ny boat show at javitz because my dad set it up and i can't back out of it or he'll look bad at work. i mean, it's good money, but it's also an 11-hour work day after a semester of 2 jobs and endless busy-ness that i'm still recovering from.  damn the man.

the good news, got a dvd player for christmas so now i get to be in bed, watch a movie, and be on the internet on my laptop (oh wireless internet, you're so glorious) as i am now.  it's pretty sweet.

in other news, the gw college republicans have been named chapter of the year.  i'm jazzed.  go us! we rock so freaking hard.  after coburn, kemp, and allen this past semester, the coming semester will bring a nasa speaker, lots of volunteer work (go me!) and ::drum roll:: ANN COULTER!!! omg, it's gonna be so hot.

have a happy new year, everyone!

the triumphant return ...

the laptop is back in action (thank you, daddy) and i'm kind of back in action as well, after a very refreshing, enjoyable, fun-filled, and nostalgic weekend at home.

thanksgiving is so good, but i refuse to get on a scale for a week so as to not die of shock at how much weight i must have gained over the last 4 days.  new york/mommy food is so good, it was impossible to resist.

took my christmas card pic with cosmo while i was home ... i'm really excited about it.

i guess that's it.  yay for having a computer at school again.

so i just saw the new harry potter movie over the weekend.  i have mixed feelings.  as a movie that stands by itself and independent from the book, it was amazing.  as a movie that is trying to recreate the experience of a book, it was mediocre.  gof is my fav hp and i can't accept how much was left out of it.  i understand that the movie can't be 5 hours long, but i'd be willing to sit through 3 hours if it meant that the story wasn't completely butchered, especially in light of the fact that it was only 5 minutes longer than the first movie while the book is over 300 pages longer (if not more).

so many very significant plot elements weren't so much as mentioned in the movie.  off the top of my head, the following were left out: ludo bagman and his ex-death eater-ness, winky and the fact that she's crouch's elf, s.p.e.w., the back story of neville's parents and why he was so messed up during moody's lesson not really explained, harry wasn't put under the cruicatus curse by moody and therefore never learned how to overcome it so as far as the movie is concerned it completely messed up the end when voldemort puts him under the curse and he was able to overcome it, the preparation that harry puts into the tasks and hermione's help for the first one (though we do get to see harry in a tub before the second task ... the pedophile in me was overcome with giddy-ness at that point, whatever, dan radcliffe is 16 now.  that's not that young), the fact that harry's wand made the dark mark at the quidditch world cup, nothing from privet drive, nothing about percy (which becomes so significant later on), they kept calling peter pettigrew wormtail and given that they don't explain all that with the marauder's map in the 3rd movie it was prob confusing as hell for people who didn't read the books, nothing about veela's (which would explain why ron was so nutty about fleur), didn't introduce us to charlie weasley though mentioned, no obstacles in the maze except the weird vine-y things, no blast-ended skrewts, the sub-plot with ron and hermione and the tension between harry and ron was not flushed out nearly enough, nothing about giants and all that deep prejudice stuff and hagrid and madame maxime being half-giants (soooo significant later) ....

i could go on forever.  but all in all, enjoyable.  must go see it again (and not sit in the second row, damn them) to fully dissect it.  plan to go with gwyndolyn.

the computer in the CR office is my new home.

yeah, so my computer definitely crashed.  i'm freaking out.  it's not even so much that my computer is my life and not being online all the time is torturing me and completely changing the way in which i communicate with the outside world (especially in light of the fact that cell service in my room is shit), it's more that my pictures, my music, my emails, and all of my papers from high school and college are on there.  if they can't recover all of my files i will flip out.  there will be no consoling me.  the only thing that is helping me to cope is that most of my pics have been sent out at one point or another in one form or another to parents and friends and so they are not completely lost, though many will be.  but i mean, it's not like i lost all my pics from paris or something, that would be devastating.  even more saddening, for me, is that i've been writing emails to my favorite ladies from back home periodically (used to be weekly, now it's more like monthly) since my first day of freshman year and i've saved all of them.  it was always so fun to look back on them and now they may be gone forever.  it's so sad! it's really strangely ironic too because the other day i was reading back some of them and i was thinking, "hmm, i should really back these up before i lose them."

oh god, this ass just walked into the office.  i really hate this kid.  he's such a weirdo and he always seems to wander in while i'm here.  he just like thinks he owns the place and he's a stupid elitist dem who starts shit needlessly.  not to mention that he's not even on the dems eboard, he just kinda thinks he has a right to be in here all the time.  go away!

aaaaanyway, gotta go to applied science (let me contain my excitement).

later.
