A nice little tidbit

I had to read "Mules and Men" recently for world lit. It's a nice book about some random stories. Normally I don't like any authors who try to interpret or quote religious text, because most of them have no idea what they're talking about.

But this little prayer from the book came to me as very touching. Maybe because mine have been deteriorating in quality and length recently:

"You have been with me from the earliest rocking of my cradle up until this present moment.

You know our hearts, our Father,

And all de range of our deceitful minds,

And if you find anything like sin lurking

In and around our hearts,

Ah ast you, My Father, and my Wonder-workin' God

To pluck it out And cast it into de sea of Fuhgitfulness

Where it will never rise to harm us in dis world

Nor condemn us in de judgment.

You heard me when Ah laid at hell's dark door

With no weapon in my hand

And no God in my heart,

And cried for three long days and nights.

You heard me, Lawd,

And stooped so low

And snatched me from the hell

 Of eternal death and damnation.

You cut loose my stammerin' tongue;

You established my feet on de rock of Salvation

And yo' voice was heard in rumblin' judgment.

I thank Thee that my last night's sleepin' couch

Was not my coolin' board

 And my cover

Was not my windin' sheet.

Speak to de sinner-man and bless 'im.

Touch all those

Who have been down to de doors of degradation.

Ketch de man dat's layin' in danger of consumin' fire;

And Lawd,

When Ah kin pray no mo

When Ah done drunk down de last cup of sorrow

 Look on me, yo' weak servant who feels de least of all;

'Point my soul a restin' place

Where Ah kin set down and praise yo' name forever

Is my prayer for Jesus sake Amen and thank God." - Pa Henry's Prayer

After I read this, I felt very embarrassed at my own deterioration of prayer. Mine is no form of worship. I hate contemporary prayers which contain no reverence, but mine in comparison don't treat God properly for His character. I spend way too much time every day praying about my burdens and my friends, but no time actually contemplating who God actually is and how He deserves praise most of all: the original intention of worship. Anyway, it's late.

Here's a little funny convo I had with my friend about dating Koreans:

"[23:34] ManinLilithFair: when u date a korean...
[23:34] ManinLilithFair: today iw as talking to my friend
[23:34] stealw25: thats the day you start eating a lot of kimchi

[23:35] firehead357: fiance?

[23:35] firehead357: llol
[23:35] GPS86: Hahahahah...

[23:35] ManinLilithFair: and then hes liek "i know i know....ok....i know i know....but...yes i love you too....Of course you're the first on my list....ok i know..."
[23:36] stealw25: too much kimchi in their body
[23:36] ManinLilithFair: after about 5 minutes of that stuff
[23:36] ManinLilithFair: iw as like hey...alex i should go

[23:37] ManinLilithFair: OK BYE HAVE FUN :)
[23:37] stealw25: my kinda man

Hmm

Found some interesting things today:

Elephant who can draw other elephants.

Japanese technology that's supposed to "replace" PCs. Honestly I think it's nothing new, but still cool.

I hate to continue spreading the spam my dad forwards to me but...

Had a dream today that I was with CTMP people and we played 99 (card game). That's a blast from the past. AND we were at Marc Chan's OLD house! This was with all the old school CTMPers (before they, yanno, got jobs and collectively moved to NYC). Also dreamed about taking my car to the dealership. Weird huh?

We got hailed on this morning in Austin. I woke up at 8:00 to the sound of loud bangs. I was trying to shut it out with my headphones until my roommate woke me up and told me it was hail. Golf ball sized hailstones were dropping  from the skies. If my car's damaged I'll post up pics.

America's Identity Crisis

Okay so today I got a haircut. And instead of "leave 1/8 inch on the back" the barber thought I said "take 1/8 inch off the back". So basically I just wasted time and money. And he cut me with the razor.

Without further ado, a non-solitaire post. (read only if you're bored.)

So recently I've been thinking about the society we live in. America. It's great, isn't it? I mean, life is full of goals and interesting turns, while you make friends and pick up hobbies along the way. But there's one thing I noticed with many- and I do mean many- of the people in today's world. This includes me in some ways, or at least at some time.

What do I mean by America's Identity Crisis?

It seems like everywhere I go I see people wanting to be something they're not. I guess in a sense you can say this blog is meant to grill posers. But I don't like that word, because it implies that I'm talking about strictly attention seekers or punks. There are people everywhere wanting to be all sorts of things: pirates (ugh this pisses me off), ninjas, assassins, pimps, gangsters, all sorts of crazy Anime characters, rich people, and worst of all Christians.

Okay so I'll talk up to the obvious climax. Well actually it's late and I have homework to do, so I'll just skip the list. The things that gets under my skin are:
1. An utter disregard of the reality of the identity they're trying to mask- What the hell's so impressive about bringing on your gangster gear and dressing up in some sort of offensive way? It's a path of rebellion and delinquency which involves a consuming seeking of pleasure or power, in which harm befalls other individuals. It is underground organized oppression and sin, and its consequences are shameful and depressing. So why dress up like one?

Don't even get me started on pirates.

This is a popular one amongst guys: a psychotic/classy killer. They wear scary masks and take pictures of themselves holding a knife and then put it on myspace. I have yet to see actual action befall them. Can they really kill for money? Are they really that low? Do they understand the character that is behind a hired killer? Do they realize how low it is? To KILL for money to eat and live. Or even just to kill for pleasure. Do any of these kids have the actual mind to perform these tasks? If so, I hope they realize the consequences of murder. It's not some classy art with high pay and connections to secret organizations with power. It's dirty and selfish and corrupt, and only springs from immature contempt.

There's usually a horrible identity behind all these identities. Yeah sure its image invokes fear and sometimes awe. But only if it's REAL. An image is fake, and it makes whoever puts on that mask even more pathetic. It shows that not that they don't live up to the image they portray, but that they can't.

2. A reduction
of our own image- I feel like we lose a lot of our identity as a nation just through this massive play-fest. You heard me, this nation is full of "actors" who, after they play whatever role makes them feel good, all go home with empty pockets and big egos. Okay, I am definitely not saying that this is the majority, but the majority some time or another will do this because of how our society is set up: movies, games, books, etc. Its just dress up, but it comes at the expense of who we are behind the mask. When people think of the American, what do they think of? Let's think products of our society- high school and college would probably be the most relevant. Where's the individuality? Truly unique individuals are few and far in between. Ones who develop themselves as individuals and drill actual talents into their brains and bodies instead of just putting on another popular "image."

And what about us Christians? I don't feel inclined to be pessimistic as I usually am. Maybe it's my old self making a final statement. But why do I see so many people putting on an image rather than the reality of Christ? They do their little "prayer groups" and go to church consistently (applause) and are nice to people and withold their anger from enemies. And yet they judge and they live in ignorance. They're stagnant. They contribute only a portion of themselves: just enough inside their comfort zone so that they can say they live a Christian life. I can accept progress, but not falsehood. Life goes on, and they eventually drift away from the church, only to consider themselves as having "gotten into" heaven. It's even sadder than the previous examples, really, because it's taking something that's truly good and making that a mask.

And masks, my friend, are dangerous. You can't see what goes on beneath it, even when you look in a mirror.

You have no idea...

LoL Evan you think you beat me? You have no idea....

That record was set DAYS before yours. I'm not playing again until someone beats my score. I promised myself that after I beat 60 seconds I would take a hiatus.

And yes, my life is much deeper than a card game.

Oh yeah, and for about 2-3 weeks my high score was this:

So don't feel bad, you're ALMOST there.
