| I've started management at a new Panera. It's the one in Franklin. It is quite a bit different. It is taking alot of getting used to. The rest of my management team is very lazy compared to my previous location. I am trying my hardest to make a difference in this store. Some of the employees are already very comfortable in their lazy habits, so it is very hard to motivate them to do things because the idea of taking pride in their work is very foreign to them. I do not blame this on the employees by any means. They have never had very high expectations of them at work. Hopefully I can make a difference their through the employees. If the employees will decide to take some initiative, then it will improve the overall customer experience and this Panera can be revered at a higher level. Juse because it is low volume does not mean it has to be low quality. |

| A couple of things happened to me at work. Neither one of them were very good. During our lunch rush I had the privilege of taking one elderly gentleman's order. He ordered a "You Pick Two" with an Italian Combo...before he could say the other half he started questioning our prices. It is true that if you get a "You Pick Two" there are certain sandwiched or salads that have a price increase. I told this gentlemen that certain sandwiches like the Italian Combo have a price increase. He said, "well thats a bunch of bullshit, how am I suppose to know what I can get for 5.99?" I explained to him that the sandwiches noted with an asterisk have a price increase. He then said, "that's bullshit. So you're telling me that the price 5.99 is not really the price and you're not going to tell people that." I explained to him that it is stated underneath the sign that there is an increase with select sandwiches and salads. He proceeded to cuss me out and told me that this is no way to run a damn business and that it was bullshit again. I explained to him that the reason for this increase is because of food costs and the fact that some of the sandwiches cost more to make so we have to charge more. The Italian Combo for instance has three different types of meat so naturally it is going to cost more than a turkey sandwich for instance. There was no reasoning with this man though. He had already made up in his mind that I was trying to take his money in a dishonest way.
On top of this I found a 50 in my 10 slot in my drawer. This means that I had short changed someone about 40 dollars. Sure enough my drawer was 40 dollars over. I felt terrible. Besides these things though I really do enjoy working for Panera and I generally like most of the Panera customers. I start management training the 15th. Should be a good time.
Josh and I came upon a show called Black. White. It's about a black family that disguises themselves to be white and visa versa. This show was surprisingly really good. I will probably watch it next week. |
