Indonesia is awesome. It reminds me of Malaysia a lot...

Shiok!

So I had a weekday off. The occasion? A typhoon was suppose to hit the middle of Shanghai. By the way I'm back in Shanghai...hahah. So my new school decided to go for safety first and closed our school for one day like the other Chinese schools. But we actually could have had school...wasn't that bad. I think it missed us by a hundred miles or so.

I hit Starbucks in the morning and did some sketching with the other Art and Design teacher. By the way I'm an Art and Design teacher at an awesome highschool here now. Having the time of my life. Ja, so we did some art and then decided to get lunch.

Went out got some Irish cheese, Paris baguette, Spanish olives, and French wine. It was an awesome lunch...good to have such a good friend like Jason that lives so close by. After a movie and nap we welcomed his returning wife...she did not have the day off...and then I headed to SHOP.

Sorry girls...I went to a prayer meeting that is called SHOP and didn't actually shop...right. Had a great time and met a new friend and awesome African brother...had a great time of prayer with that guy.

Walked home in the rain...

...so a happy day...the only thing that dampened it was a fleeting thought that concerns a friend and how our friendship might not be the same again...

...tomorrow is another work day...pretty stoked about teaching again.

Hey guys in the states check out the fall issue of CMYK Magazine...you might see a familiar name in there. :P

A Journey into Shanghai Through the 5 Senses

Here's a bit of a look into my day today...

Sight
...I was walking down the street today, my normal neighborhood street, and there I saw something that's a pretty normal thing just looked artistic or something to me.

The bus stopped and the cars behind it stopped as well. And then from around the back of the bus a mom and daughter emerged and without almost a second look started to cross the street. A bright balloon bounced as the sweet girl crossed the street with her hand in her mom's. A car come barreling down, again normal, with horn a honking. The only movement was that the girl without batting an eye turned and looked at the car over her arm that still held the balloon. The car didn't slow...and nothing happened...another normal day.

Smell
...after witnessing this event, or actually...an event that didn't happen, I caught a whiff of something that took me from my thoughts on safety. A construction crew, normal thing to see wherever you go, is working on digging a hole right by my neighborhood subway exit and every once in awhile I smell something that takes me back. Let's just say the smell takes me back to Home Depot. The smell of cut lumber is awesome...when I return to the States this July I know where one of my stops will be.

Touch
...forgot what I was going to say here but man is it good to feel the worn pages of a good book again. Subway trips go by so fast...

Taste
...hmm...right brain freeze...man I had this post all played out in my head.

Hearing
...right I think I heard a honk from a friendly mode of transportation today...hahaha. And I'm sorry to say that I heard the f bomb today as well. Sad story. I finally cracked down on four of my college students for being a disturbance in my class multiple times. I asked them to what the deal was...they had some sorry excuses and then I had them write their names on a paper which I turned in. I sorta felt bad...but had a feeling that "hey the deserve the talk they will get." As I exited the college I saw the four walking back inside and I told them to have a great day. That's when the f bomb was dropped after one muttered something. Yes, now I know that they deserved it. Leave it to an English teacher to feel the need to correct their pronunciation...I didn't but I chuckled about it on my way to the bus.

Ha! What a great day! A friend did mention to me the fact that I had not yet mention to my cyber friends that I have been blessed with a macbook pro. A great blessing that was followed by another blessing. Right I lost my cell phone on the bus...so I'm still trying to see the blessing in this but I am thankful for it. I'm excited to see how God will work during this time...I mean its pretty big not having it but hey God is good and I have a temp phone right now. Besides, that morning I had a great example for a hypothetical situation, "I should have checked my pockets after I stood up and left my seat!" My students really didn't think it was funny but I sure did...hahaha.

Awesome weeks are happening...sorry I haven't been on lately...woot to you guys!

Malaysia 07, Chinese New Year

Part II Langkawi Island

K...so after staying a few days on the main island of Malaysia. We headed over to Langkawi Island by a really awesome Malaysian airline, in which we had to run to claim our seats in. Anyways...while in line we talked with a couple from Switzerland. We hit it off and our hotel pick up dude even took them to their hotel. We secured a car, in which a random guy lent us, and we took our new friends out for a very surprisingly expensive but great supper.

We were on the lamo side of the island in which families and old tourists roamed, so there was no action at all at night. The next day we did find the exciting part of the island...lots of backpackers....ahahaha.

If you go to this island its a no brainer that you must take a boat tour, or island hopping thing, or you seriously missed out on a bunch.

View from our boat (I think), that castle thing is where we stayed two nights. Pretty sweet deal in which we owe to Jeanette for finding.

My two rad awesome travel partners, Carol (from NZ, she acquired an Australian accent...ahahhaha) and Jeanette (from Malaysia). By the way...photographers (three in this party) love abandoned buildings. This was taken in the restroom...they are sticking out of the holes that were made for the sinks. K...I know I'm at an island...but hey you will appreciate the beauty more now...ahhahaha.

Carol...crazy fun, man did she walk fast.

Jeanette...good friend, ultimate travel person in our group.

Yep...no support there...

And yes...I did go and here is one of the few photos I have of myself.

Yes...the Iron Man happened while we were there. But alas, we were not Iron waker-uppppers...so we missed the start of it...hahhah.

My travel partners are shaking there heads because of my excitement when I took this shoot and thoughtfully created the title. This I proudly title...."We're Tied Together Baby"

Captain's Flower

Island Hopping...we hit three locations. The first is where they feed a flock of eagles that live in the jungle of one of the islands..and the second was....

...the party beach which had some beautiful sand...good photo action as well.

Tied Again.

Fun..fun.

Another shot of my travel buddies...

The third island was the Pregnant Maiden Island. Upon hearing that there is such an island, I decided that we would have to visit it so that I could say that I had been there. What luck! We then found out that our tour was taking us there...Here Carol is pointing to the outline of the Maiden. We hiked to the middle of the island were a lake sat. Legend has that a lady was not able to bear children until she bathed in this lake. So if any woman swims in it..the same will be true for them. Don't ask me what happens if a man bathes here...I didn't dip. I did however join my friends for some canoe action...safe call.

Yes...it was beautiful.

A parting shot of two awesome people...I hope to travel with you guys soon. Next is Pennang...right?

A great time in Malaysia. As I left its shores I felt a weird thing inside of me and after cruising around in Singapore that day I discovered that Malaysia had indeed impacted me and left an amazing impression on me. I will return to the place that I have fallen in love with. Yes this is the part when my Singaporean friends would groan...ahahhaha. No kidding...there's so much that I need to see there.

Hope you enjoyed the action...I am now enjoying no action because China has a week long vacation....

God bless you guys, I would love to hear from you all...
