After numerous uneventful drives back from the airport, at all hours (literally) I was finally done in by Odyssey and a phone call.

Somehow. I missed my exit. And missed that I missed my exit. But when I started seeing gas stations I got suspicious, and when I got to M. my suspicion that I would get somewhere eventually was confirmed. Except that I needed to be getting to L. Not M. Not sure what exactly had happened to the road I was on, if I was on the road I thought I was on, or if it had turned into a different road, I turned around and figured I would have to hit the road I needed if I went back the way I'd come.

I was right.

After a fashion.

But it was past my dinner time, and I was tired, and I'd been fighting a headache all day, so it was a rather bad evening for adventuring. I was also in the Lusitania--which is a smooth enough boat, but lacking the navigation charts my Duncan has, in fact, lacking all navigation charts entirely--

So the road I was on was in fact the road I thought it was, but it didn't hit the road I needed it to hit--or if it did it didn't do it on the side I was on, and it wasn't marked at all (which in most parts of the world is considered very unhelpful).

When I got back to the airport and saw the toll road (clearly marked, toll road to L) I decided to throw in the towel and spend the three bucks. I was too tired to adventure properly--I was thirsty too, and the radio was playing an interview with a 7th Day Adventist missionary.

But we made it home without sinking. (Me and the Lusitania that is)

So the last three weeks have had a heck of a lot of firsts--first car, first phone plan, first insurance (of all sorts), first really long drive, first day in an office (non-production office type office), first trip to the tow pound thing, first condo, first Monday, first power out at work, etc. Add to all of this my faithful if yet-to-be-completely-through-all-the-burning-hoops-of-red-tape-chariot, and my phones ("affectionately" the evil twins), and my DRW (mystery), and my genuine need of a routine.

Yup.

Just a day in the life.

But God continues to be good, and faithful. Life is an adventure with him.

Well. Duncan apparently has an oil leak in a hard to get spot—so I’m playing life by ear at the moment. First they said it would take three days to fix, so I called my job and told them the situation. Got permission to come in a few days later. Then we called the dealer back and talk to someone else, and he says he can fix it in a day. I opt not to call work right back. I’ll call when I get my car.

Until then, I got all my other ducks in a row—with the help of Dad—I am now more insured than ever.

My table is another dysfunctional part of the equation—but not so instrumentally. The decoupage mostly worked, but there were a few unforeseen hitches. 1) I used a very light paper, essentially tracing paper. Bad move. Paper, especially light paper—wrinkles when it gets wet. This makes it impossible to put it down completely smooth. 2) I used a real calligraphy pen on one section. You know, the kind where you puncture the tube of ink with the backside of the nib? Anyway, bad move. Ink, especially fancy ink, runs when it gets wet. Polyurethane qualifies as wet. Very. So I re-did the whole page, wrote something else altogether, and liked it much better. But apparently having less than a year to dry also was a bad move. It ran too. So I decided to ditch the whole “page of writing aspect” of the decoupage. 3) I guess there wasn’t anything else really major, just that there is not enough time between now and when I leave to do 500 layers of polyurethane. Soooo, Camel has very generously decided to send the wet stuff, the brush, rags, et al with me so I can finish.

And it is very hot out. I saw a ruby throated hummingbird today, he did what looked like a dance with a bug, and then ate it. And I saw the goldfish—they made me smile. Later I met Spook, and she made my day. Every mare should have manners like hers. Although I think she would have liked it if my shoulder were easier for her to rest her head on.

So there you have it. Life is more in flux than ever. Except for the annual trip to the dentist.

rhodedendron-outside the kitchen window, so you can gaze into their ruby centers while you wash dishes.

the osprey. the sea eagle. not to be confused with the seagull. known to build nests (like this one) atop telephone poles--which are summarily removed by the power company and rebuilt at the next available opportunity by the osprey. This particular pair as the enviable feature of a decorative workboot.
