Jets and Ready EnginesSo... I added an audio clip to my blog - it's a new tune I've "assembled from parts" as it were - basically a remix of source audio that was made available by the Australian electronic/dance artist Gotye for a tune he's working on called "Alleyway Jets". The source files were made available by the Australian "Audio Technology" magazine on their website, and I've pulled in some other samples from other copyright cleared sample libraries from music magazine cover disks. Ironically (as I generally prefer to work with recordings of live audio than samples) I'm pretty happy with the results. I hope you enjoy it too. Oh... without having direct references to the old "Horizontal Folk Dancing", there's definitely some strong allusions to that... err... activity... you should perhaps see checking out this tune as an opportunity to send any under 15s out to play in the backyard and get some exercise. Hope you like it... it's not a serious piece of art - it's meant more to amuse than to enlighten. Still... now online for your listening pleasure. Cheers Jeremy

In response to the death of an Australian soldier involved in the reconstruction of the Afghani townships and villages of Oruzgan Province in the aftermath of 18 years worth of civil war or Taliban rule since the 1989 withdrawal of Soviet troops I offer these words... Apparently the Taliban are jumping up and down, showing off their IED's on the web, and generally making a fuss about how they've finally managed to kill an Aussie digger who has basically left his home to spend time looking after their own people. Get the hell over yourselves! This man was not an invader... he was a professional soldier who gave his life in the service of the people your lot (the Taliban) are hell-bent on turning into clueless savages. This was a civilized man murdered in cold blood. His death will not serve to scare his mates out of Afghanistan. It will strengthen their resolve to do what they were sent there to do - to build schools, community halls, houses and shops. To give the everyday Yousef Average in Afghanistan a fair start in life, and opportunities you morons are hell-bent on tearing away from the Afghani people. If you insist on continuing to come after Australian troops, know two things. - We are slow to anger, but once we're there we're scary good at making those who've pissed us off pay for their sins. Our soldiers are numbered amongst the most professionally trained in the world, and we don't take the deaths of our countrymen lightly. Ask the NVA, the Korean People's and Red Armies, the Japanese who we chased out of New Guinea in WWII, the descendents of the Afrika Korps and the Turks who fought us on the Gallipoli Peninsula (and who still talk about the Aussie diggers with a level of respect not normally accorded to someone you actually managed to chase of your back paddock) and the Belgians who we fought for in Passchendaele (who to this day fly Australian and New Zealand flags in their pubs, and refer to any Australian they meet as "Oh! ANZACs!" and give us the best tables in the house). You make us bleed, we get cold... we get frighteningly and devastatingly deadly. Don't Piss Us Off. It's not nice, and we're rarely nice to the people who do so.
- Your cause has just lost any level of legitimacy it might have had with just about every person in Australia. As a nation, you have struck a chord that will decay into a deafeningly intense silence. The reasonable people who once said "Well... the Taliban chased out the Soviets so they can't all be bad," will now be muttering at the water cooler "Those morons. We've got our diggers in their country to help them out. Ingrates. Idiots. Savages. Murderers." We won't bay for blood. That's not our style. Our soldiers won't hesitate to spill your blood, but it will be clinical... impersonal... cold. Just like every true Aussie in the nation. Any warmth we had for the Taliban's cause is now encased in ice. Our backs are turned. Just shut the hell up and go away.
Today you might be celebrating. That's fine... enjoy your moment in the sun. Just remember, you're a long time in your grave. And if you keep trying to chase our boys out of your country before their job is done, you'll find that grave sooner than we'd wish on anyone else. Moreover... we'll actually feel sad for you. Not about what happened to your cause... but that you were stupid enough to get our hackles up in the first place, and that you were so blind to your own potential fate as to run into the gunsights of our diggers. In closing... I'll raise a bevvy to the Taliban's upcoming spanking... after all... we all know they're going to be stupid enough to try this shit again - (hell - they've even sent video to Al Jazeera stating that they're mounting a major offensive to "celebrate" Ramadan) and shout in our colourful Aussie vernacular about the most dismissive and derisive thing we civvies can be bothered firing in your direction... "Fuckyazorl!"

Pics...While I'm at the whole posting thing... here's a handful of pics I took in the Mallee a few weeks back. The Mallee is a region about 200km (wide) by 300km (long ) of low dense scrublands, arid conditions and gently rolling to flat terrain that spans the border between South Australian and Victoria. While I was coming back from a 1000km weekend trip this was what was on the horizon. Funnily enough, I stopped to take a few pics.
I hope you like 'em. Cheers Ged

Dirty Strangers Live at the WheatsheafHowdy folks - long time no post. If any of you happen to be in the fair city of Adelaide, South Australia tomorrow night, feel free to wander down to the Wheatsheaf International at 39 George Street Thebarton. The band I'm currently in will be playing there.from around 9:00pm. Feel free to check out some of our latest tunes on http://www.myspace.com/dirtystrangers. One of the brothers with whom I've collaborated musically for the best part of a decade has set up some myspace sites for old (now defunct) bands that we've been in... these are worth a look (and listen) as well. Check out: Roughheads: http://www.myspace.com/theroughheads Dirty Armadillos: http://www.myspace.com/thedirtyarmadillos Frogs in Glass Jars: http://www.myspace.com/frogsinglassjars

Man-drought...I was taking a look at one of the local personals sites and came across a forum entry where someone asked: "Is Australia suffering from a man drought? Should it be illegal for eligible men to leave the country?"
This is a matter that's been bugging me for a while so I couldn't help but respond. I was sufficiently proud of my little rant that I thought I'd share it with my Xanga friends and see if it wakes any of you up. The text of my post follows below.
I don't think the problem is a lack of available men. I think the problem is that most women's expectations of what constitutes "eligibility" are unreasonable. Adjust your expectations girls... we can't all be philophers, poets, musicians, elite athletes and international financiers all at the same time... There's only so much time in the day, and only so many days in a year.
Also, understand that many Australian men have no clue where they stand with women. Are we supposed to make the first move? If so, how are we supposed to do so without getting called slimebags? After the first 10-20 attempts and getting nothing in return but a pile of angsty feminist drivel about treating women as sex objects (all I did was ask her out for a coffee, really!) it's hard to stay motivated about trying again. It shouldn't be a crime to not be the ideal man you've dreamed of since seeing "The Princess Bride" when you were 10 years old. We at least deserve a little courtesy and respect for making the first move when you lot won't.
Besides, being male and being single has its privileges. It's certainly a less hassled lifestyle choice. You can go to bed when YOU feel like it. And there's no implicit (yet undeclared) time-limits on responding to an SMS or voicemail, beyond which we're deemed to be uncaring pigs. No reading between the lines, no lectures about meat clogging our bowels, no having to make the bed every morning just so it can be messed up again at night...
If this sort of attitude makes me a pig, then allow me to oink proudly as I remind the girls here the true meaning of compromise - both parties trade off something they want to get something better. When only one person is giving, that's not a compromise. Oh... and allowing someone to have sex with you occasionally because they do what you want? That's not "giving something" - that actually cheapens sex far more in my eyes than any wolf-whistle or cheeky innuendo. Sex should be a mutually satisfying expression of an emotional bond, not a reward for being a good little gimp!
Am I bitter? Twisted? Burnt in the past? Perhaps a little of each. But it doesn't matter, because my vision is clear, and my perceptions are relatively objective. Rose-coloured is not a favourite shade of mine, and sometimes I just like to tell it like it is.
Discussion? Comments? Opinions?
Save 'em for someone who cares. :P

Mad Ramblings
In a number of blogs I've let loose some of my grand theories about life, the universe and everything. I've linked them so that those who haven't seen them and are interested in seeing my egomaniacal opinions can check them out.
