| I can't believe the last time I wrote anything on here was two months ago. But it seems like almost no one else updates on xanga anymore.
What I have I been up to? Well since my company started corporate memberships to museums, I've been visiting a lot of museums. Recent ones include the Guggenheim, Frick, MoMa, Museum of Natural History, the Jewish museum and the NY Botanical Gardens. Today I went to the NY Aquarium in Coney Island. I must say that the last time I was there, I was very impressed by it. But now that I've seen others including the one in San Francisco among others, I was quite let down. I guess it has been many years and I was much younger.
I've also kept up with my walking 3.5 miles each way to work. It seems like everyone I know is walking or running for a cause, I'm training for the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge coming up in June. I realized only recently that I can't run or jog so I tried jumping rope. My company is paying 80% gym memberships, but I don't think I'm ready to commit to going to the gym just yet.
Next Wednesday through Friday I will be in London for work. This would be my second business trip. I'm very excited since this is only my second time in Europe. Although I must admit that of all the places to visit in Europe, London is way at the end of my list. But I will cherish every chance to leave the city. I will be staying in Mayfair so I will be pretty close to everything. I will spend the weekend and Memorial Day there too. Since the trip was relatively last minute, I'm racing through four guide books and websites to find as much info as possible.
Can't wait to get on the plane... flying Virgin business class... I hear they have seats that fold down to a bed.

| After four hours of training I am now CPR certified by the Red Cross. I have a little card to prove it. We even had a quiz at the end. I was the last to hand in my exam. Reminded me of high school. I was actually part of Red Cross for a few of my high school years. The guy conducting the class said they've moved to a new building now.
Will also be trained in First Aid in a few weeks.

| Wow I haven't updated in almost three months and it seems like most everyone else is also not updating. I guess xanga is losing its steam and people are busy with other things. I've been busying myself with food lately.
For my birthday, most of my dogmates and Cris took me to Buenos Aires in the East Village for a fabulous steak dinner. I tired blood sausage for the first time. I would not recommend it. I also tried sweet breads for the first time too. Other than being a bit chewy it was decent. I had way too much red meat. The decor was great for chatting and eating.
On my actual birthday I had an Indian buffet for lunch and then made paella for dinner. My first time making paella - included chicken, clams, shrimp roasted red pepers, green pepers, peas, and onions. It was very good.
Last Friday, the girls and I went Kelley & Ping in SoHo based on Yoshi's recommendation. It was a great pick. The food was just okay, but the decor was great. Very 1970s China looking - full of calendar girls and old Chinese restaurant equipment.
Last Saturday, Charlie did some quick research on menupages and found a gem in Williamsburg - Cafe Martino. It is the perfect date restaurant. Many types of seating and very romantic with antique-like decorations. I had ratatouille for my main course and it was very good. We had empanadas for an appetizer and dessert. The dessert one had nutella in it. It was very good. And we were the only dinner customers the whole hour and a half we were there. There were other patrons who just came in for wine or soup. The host was very nice and attentive.
Then on Sunday we went to Charrito in Hoboken. My first time in Hoboken. I like New York better. It was an upscale mexican restaurant. I've been really into mexican lately. I had a burrito. The steak in it was excellent. But that was about it. The cascading waterfall next to me was pretty nice though. Service was very very slow.
Tuesday, went to Negril Chelsea with Patty. It's a Jamacian restaurant. I had the oxtail. It was great. Patty had a roti with curry - very different from other roti I've had. The decor was just okay.
Friday was birthday lunch with the office at Spice Market. We had three birthday's to celebrate. I thought the lobster roll was going to be a Boston lobster roll, but it was a sushi roll. That was okay. Short ribs were great, but how can you go wrong with short ribs. The fried skate was amazing. And the ginger margarita was too salty - don't get the salt. The decor was amazing... makes me think of Thailand. Beautiful place.
Today I went to the International Restaurant & Foodservice Show at the Javits. My first time at the convention center. Sampled a few slushies, frozen yogurts, breads, chicken. Not bad. It's amazing what people dream up and then try to sell. And organic and green is everywhere.

| I now finally have two sidekicks/assistants. The first is Jon who started last week and has been doing well. He's hardworking and getting things moving along for me. The second is a Blackberry that I just got today. I have to say that I'm not a huge technology person. I've refused Ipods in the past and was against GPS when they first came out. Now I think GPS is the coolest gadget. But I must admit this Blackberry thing is a bit intimidating. I have no idea what it does besides email, phone and browser. And I'm so used to doing things a certain way, it's strange to learn this new machine. It makes me feel old. At the same time it's so much fun.
Today was a crazy day. Started the day with a 8:30 breakfast before a 4 hour training session on productivity. That lasted until 1 PM. So that took up most of my day. Luckily we were just across the street from the office, but I got back to an inbox full of emails - still didn't have my Blackberry yet. Then I had a 2 PM meeting with an emergency alert company. The presentation was very interesting. Then a 3 PM meeting with a food vendor. Then a 4 PM follow up computer session to the morning seminar. The great thing about all the back to back meetings was that I was actually able to run a few of them. Got my Blackberry at 4:30. Architect party at 6 PM. Home at 8 PM.
But strange things happened on the way home. On 9th and 1st, I walked past two thuggish looking guys. One of them flagged me down and asked, "Can I ask you a question?" I usual try to avoid eye contact and walk away without saying anything. Remember I'm wearing my little white northface and a backpack - I look like a 17 year old high school girl. But for whatever reason, I made eye contact and acknowledged their presence. So they proceed with the question. They asked me what I think the one guy should buy for a female friend, just a platonic female friend. It seemed they had a disagreement about the purple flowers. The other guy said, "He wants to get the purple flowers, but I don't know. " I chimed in, "Well those purple flowers are for-get-me-nots, so that's probably not the best for a platonic friend." The second guy goes, "Yeah, see. I told you not to get the purple flowers." The first guy, "Let her finish." The second guy continued, "I suggested the lilies, perhaps just a single white lily." I responded, "Well I don't know what white means. I'd go for the yellow or orange." In the end, they took my opinion and thanked me sincerely for my help. I was shocked that these guys, who seems to be in high school, perhaps college age were so preoccupied with buying a girl the right flowers on a cold wintry night. It's kind of cute!
Then a few blocks away, I see a runner approaching with a Hamilton T-shirt on. This has happened about two other times. I think about stopping them to ask if they went to Hamilton College, but usually chicken out. But tonight was a social night - I stopped and pointed at his shirt. He came to a stop and took off his earphones. I ask, "Did you go to Hamilton?" As he is nodding, I nervously mentioned that there aren't that many other possibilities besides the little town in Canada near Toronto named Hamilton. And there really aren't many other places I've heard of that would have a logo on a T-shirt. Turns out he is from the class of 2007. We talked briefly about our jobs and the latest changes on campus. It was the most unexpected but pleasant five minute conversation I've had with a stranger in a long time. It was almost as if we were old friends who bumped into each other on the street of a random city.
After a long day of meetings and socializing, it's time for some rest before a morning of ice skating in Woolman rink with my little cousin Sam.

| Tomorrow I will have my very first staff of my own. I hope I give him enough to do. I did write down a few items in case I get busy. I'm very excited. Although this person will only be helping me out for a month or two, it will be interesting to see how I perform as a manager. And the search for a permanent person is finally starting to pick up some steam again. And what's even better is that tomorrow ends with a happy hour at work then a holiday party by our construction manager at the Buddha Bar. Too bad I've significantly cut down on drinking :) Oh and I've made my blackberry decision.... going for a Blackberry Curve. Now I can work 24-7.
