| Graduation Outdoor Convocation on the hottest day of the year so far makes for a really really sweaty time.
but the fact that i knew half the people convocating, and we all knew each other meant it was the perfect makings for a rather rauckus ceremony.
as people crossed the stage we all yelled and cheered. even tho we were told not to. teachers aren't good at keeping to rules
shouts outs ranging from being weird "Open-source software girls are Awesome", to being possibly offensive to some "Hi White Mom!" to straight out representing my Physics or Practicum class. all in great fun.
Hey we even got to shake hands with Roberta Bondar, Canada's first female astronaut! not everybody gets to shake hands with someone like her on their birthday! SICK! |

| How would you feel if you wern't able to read?Lots of students in today's Ontario schools cannot read at their grade level. Lots of those students are not stupid, either.
but today a piece of information caught my eye.
Apparently the US government is spending more money on educating people about the switch to Digital TV than they are on educating kids about literacy. LOTS more. about 3 times more than they are spending on literacy. I know that the switch is a one time deal. check it here.
I see we have our priorities in order.
Now i do understand that many emergency broadcasts are done over TV, but lets be serious about this. i do understand that the switch is a one time deal. but geez. so much for investing in the future.
having tutored students and taught students who were pretty close to being illiterate, i know where they money should be.
on a side note, rumour has it that Cuba has a higher literacy rate than the US. Damn those evil communist countries, who needs to read anyways when you can just watch TV?

| Commercial about the Bay of Fundywas watching a commercial about the Bay of Fundy and how it is so different when the tide comes in. You could even row a canoe to see things up close.
M: "there is no such thing, when the tide goes, there ain't nothing to see" D: "that's why u go canoeing when the tide is in" M: "who does that? Why don't i just rent a canoe at lakeshore and go canoeing?" D: ...you just can't have an answer to something like that. you just can't |
