Political and Periodical Overload!

I am suffering from Pennsylvania Primary Percentages Political Punditry overload!!!  [O.K. I admit I like alliteration too much.] The news commentators have gone overboard discussing the meaning of the percent of the margin of victory.  And, as a resident of the Hoosier state, I'm steeling myself for there is a lot more headed our way. We'll be bombarded in the next two weeks with radio and tv campaign ads. I just listened online to Obama's speech to a large crowd down in Evansville. I really like him, but it's time now for music instead. Ahhhh! Rosemary Clooney (George's aunt) singing "I Get Along Without You Very Well."  www.pandora.com is wonderful .... from jazz to opera to whatever one likes, they have it.

I've decided I need to limit the number of periodicals we receive.* G'pa likes The Reader's Digest so will renew that one when due; but I'm the only one who reads (or tries to read) the others: Time, Newsweek, The Nation, The Scientific American, The Atlantic Monthly, Family Tree Magazine, Jim Hightower's The LoDown, and The Washington Spectator. Oh and I forgot the AARP Bulletin and the NSDAR Magazine. magazines

There is no way I can read them all completely cover to cover. I didn't even pay for many of them but redeemed an offer from United Airlines. We had points accumulated from when we used to fly to Atlanta and Philadelphia to visit the daughters. So I chose magazines instead of $ off on our next trip ticket. Then the American Association of University Women had a special offer so renewed several. Three are weekly and one is bi-weekly which means they stack up pretty quickly! Then Pastor John brought me two new books the last time he came over to visit and give us Communion. I am reading Joe Conason's Big Lies: The Right-Wing Propaganda Machine and How It Distorts the Truth. It is very interesting indeed. It's comforting to know my pastor shares my liberal views.

*At least I am fairly well informed about what is going on but will let subscriptions expire for all but four of them!

That is why I don't usually subscribe to periodicals. When would I have time to read them? As I'm on the computer a lot, I mainly rely on the Internet for my news and information.

I am so sick to death of this election. The back-biting and ugly slander get worse each time.... this year has been especially bad - at least to me, but then again, I may need an attitude adjustment. Then again, maybe not. I just wish it would all go away.

I finally broke my addition to mag. subs that I never had the time to read a few years ago... I do miss Reader's Digest and National Geo.

have to keep the ones I do read regularly: Newsweek, The Nation, and The Washington Spectator. The latter is a newsletter and always a good source of info. I can get Jim Hightower's stuff on the internet. I will also keep the Reader's Digest and Family Tree for its great genealogy research tips. Well that will be a start in.cutting them down to five....2 weekly, 1 bi-monthly, 1 monthly, and one every other month!

I rarely have time to read anything other than the professional journals (I get 4 of them) and National Geographic. Although I enjoy an occassional food or decorating magazine- I get my fix at the doctor's office.
