Don't you love it when time actually behaves in the way you wished it would? For example, my 10-hour drive home today actually seemed much shorter. Now if only I can learn to do it on command!

Perspective is a funny thing. It's so easy to get sucked into thinking that you are the center of the universe. Don't get me wrong to a certain extent everyone is the center of their own universe; to quote The Holiday, "I deserve to be the leading lady in my own life!" However, keeping this in mind, it is important to realize that everyone, with few exceptions, holds themselves and their concerns with that same high regard.

With this understanding, I am making an effort to celebrate with others when they are excited about something good in their life. How easy it is to forget or brush off the importance to someone of their birthday or a job promotion, simply because it doesn't further or enrich our own lives. This observation is especially condemning to me at the moment. With my own birthday just a week and a half ago, I of all people should appreciate the fact that we owe it to someone - nay, have the priviledge - to help someone celebrate a joyous occassion.

It is time to put aside that "Looking out for Number 1" attitude, and look forward to doing something non-self-serving. Having said that, most likely by tommorrow, I will regret acknowledging this neccessity. For now that I have recognized it, I will be held accountable for living by it. But really, that's not such a bad thing after all.

Wow, it's been awhile. So, catching up on my life lately, I'm now in Bryant, Indiana working with a theater there in a country music review. I NEVER thought I would be singing country music - Yee Haw! Overall, I'm really enjoying it, though. The cast is really enjoyable, and we have a good balance of alone time and group activities - we went to see Ratatoille yesterday - so much fun!

So, my contract here ends in two weeks, and then I'll be heading home for the rest of the summer. However, I'm really excited that I already have another job lined up for September/October. So, in the mean time, I'll be enjoying time with my family and working at my sister's coffeehouse - of course, just long enough to get tired of it all in time to leave in September. Great how that all works out, huh?!

Spreading the Love

I've done it! I've infected a non-Trumpet person with TD!!!! One of the guys in Little Shop with me is supposed to be a drunk/bum for a few scenes, and the director wanted him to get his face dirty. His make-up wasn't working, so I motioned to the little jar of TD they had at the theater, and the rest (as they say) is history.

I feel as if I'm spreading the Trumpet legacy a little bit.

Also, I just got home from seeing the tour of Hairspray. It was a little odd - it was the first time I've seen a professional show that was the actual production that I had auditioned for. I enjoyed the show, but I am happy to report that I was not overcome by a strong sense of longing and/or sadness due to the fact that I wasn't in the show.

So, Little Shop has survived one weekend - complete with the typical second-show mishaps. Seymour misplaced his glasses, I missed an entrance, Orin got creative with his lines, I went on stage with my backstage slide shoes (instead of my heels), Seymour sang the second verse of a song in place of the first verse - so of course, we just repeated the second verse when the time came.

Overall, it's been good - two more weekends to go!

Well, rehearsals have been going really well for Little Shop. It's really a good group of people, and I really like everyone a lot.

I'm getting ready to go to SETC auditions this coming weekend. I'll be auditioning in the morning, so if anyone else is going to be there, let me know so I can be looking for you!
