If I Threw a Xanga Party, Would You Come?

Hi folks. I have a plan to throw an on-line party on Xanga. No, there won't be video, but there will be chatting right here on this page. I'll use some technology that is like an AIM chat room, only not as chaotic. I'm looking at doing this sometime early next week, after everyone's finals. Who would be interested?

Archives, July-December, 2004

I have decided that I no longer want to leave up posts that I posted years ago. I don't like the idea of leaving the posts up indefinitely as a representative of myself, and besides no one ever reads my archives anyway. I thus will be featuring my most interesting writings one last time before locking them up in the vault, forever, along with my hair clippings when I was 2 and my first lost tooth (thanks Mom!). To read all of my archives for 2004, just look at my weblog archives (left-hand side of the page, way down).

July:

Yes, once in a while I wrote about my everyday life, but it was boring:  http://weblog.xanga.com/GreekPhysique/105142444/item.html

August:

I talked about how to build confidence and our need for confidence http://weblog.xanga.com/GreekPhysique/123758071/item.html                          and I also talked about my need to communicate better http://weblog.xanga.com/GreekPhysique/118205681/item.html .

September:

I rip poor Ross from Friends for his lack of confidence: http://weblog.xanga.com/GreekPhysique/131225611/item.html

Once in a while, I played games with my readers, such as the Fortunately/Unfortunately game. I don't know why I didn't do games on here more often. http://weblog.xanga.com/GreekPhysique/131914220/item.html

October:

This is a suprise to me--apparently I was upset with the Republicans even before the 2004 election was complete: http://weblog.xanga.com/GreekPhysique/146865015/item.html

Some story ideas for movies, including something that sounds suspiciously like Mr. and Mrs. Smith. They stole my idea!!! haha not really. http://weblog.xanga.com/GreekPhysique/140999093/item.html

November:

A serious post on whether Natalie Portman could continue to be hired as an actress once she got a little older. I said no. http://weblog.xanga.com/GreekPhysique/162976163/item.html

A funny post on the death of Yassar Arafat, complete with fake AP reports from various sources. http://weblog.xanga.com/GreekPhysique/156645650/item.html

December:

I wrote a lengthy trilogy about Sin in the World. That's me, only the most upbeat topics! Flip to December 2004 in my archives to read Parts 2 and 3; here's part 1. http://weblog.xanga.com/GreekPhysique/165605414/item.html

I love getting nervous on answering machine messages: http://weblog.xanga.com/GreekPhysique/169480895/item.html

It's MISTER GreekPhysique to you, Alex...

I received the following e-mail today, and yes, I am quite excited about this. Actual location replaced with GreekPhysique, ha, so that none of you will steal my spot :-p

Congratulations!  You have been selected for a follow-up appointment at an upcoming Jeopardy! contestant search for the GreekPhysiqia area, exclusively for those who successfully passed the online test.  This is the next step in becoming a Jeopardy! contestant.  We have reserved the following appointment for you:

When: Tuesday, June 10th

Where:  GreekPhysiqia, USA

You must RSVP within two business days of receipt of this email to secure your place in the audition.  When you RSVP via email, please provide the following:

  1. Date and time of your invite
  2. Your name
  3. Your City & State
  4. Your Phone Number

Due to overwhelming demand we can only hold your spot for two business days.  If you respond after that period of time, and if we still have space, we will be happy to provide you with an appointment.

Your appointment is non-transferable, and only those who receive this invitation directly from Jeopardy! may RSVP to book an appointment.  Each RSVP will be matched against an invite list and forwarded invitations will not be honored.

The auditions will last about 2 – 2 1/2 hours.

Once you RSVP, we will email you a letter of confirmation within five business days that will give you the exact location and other information regarding trying out.  Should you have a major conflict with the time and date provided, you may respond to this email to explain the nature of the situation.  Again, please provide your name, city and phone number.

Appointments are very limited, so please be sure you can join us before you RSVP...

We hope to hear from you soon!

Best Regards,
The Jeopardy! Contestant Department

Congrats to Amy

I have to pause my usual self-centered blather to congratulate a Xanga friend on her engagement. Amy has recently had the good taste to get engaged to a man named John. (As everyone knows, the name John instantly signifies manly traits, overwhelming achievement, and, um, humility.) I tried to think about what to say about Amy, because we don't really know each other that well. I had to say something, though, because it is rare that I get to wholeheartedly praise someone, without reservations. Amy is deserving of that.

Amy is the nicest, warmest, sweetest person I have met on Xanga. Her job involves taking care of old people, and it's a job that can wear people down and make them unhappy. Instead, Amy takes this job as an opportunity to serve those people. I have always been impressed by her joy, her gentleness of spirit, and her skills in photography. I'm excited for her, even though this means she may have less time to update her Xanga (ok, that part makes me a little sad). But it's people like Amy who keep me on Xanga and convinces me that there are plenty of good people left in the world, even though they may be scarce in my immediate vicinity. Ok, I'll stop before I embarrass her any further, ha. Please go leave congratulations on her post about the engagement!

Mystery Conversations, Volume 1

This is the first in an occasional series that highlights a special part of my lunacy. At times I start talking to myself. I decided to take it a step farther for comedic purposes, and talk to both inanimate objects and odd people. I won't tell you which type I'm talking to or who/what it is until the end...see if you can guess!

GP: We have to break up, you know.

Why? We've been together for so long!

GP: I turned 28 a month ago, and ever since then, I feel I have outgrown you. We've been together for TOO long!

We've grown together, baby. Our love is a decade long, still going strong!

GP: If you knew me better, you'd know I do not like being called baby. That's what I hate about you; one minute it feels like you know and love me, and then the next minute, I can't get you to return my calls and you pretend you don't speak English. Stop teasing me!

Me? Tease? Oh, you just have to get me in the right mood. You're just catching me on a bad day, dear. And I've done so much for you! Remember those girls I introduced you to?

GP: You mean the ones who talked to me for a few weeks and disappeared once I actually decided I cared about them? Thanks for nothing! And speaking of your bad days, you kept me so busy today that I nearly missed a major deadline. Why won't you listen when I tell you I have work to do? It's like a game for you, isn't it--the busier I am, the more interested in me you are? You're sick!

(giggles) It's a coincidence! Really it is!

GP: And why is it that every time I think you really do care about me, you pull back? We have such great conversations, but when it's time to do something in "real life", you always have something going on. What's up with that?

Now, now, a lot of people want to see and spend time with me. You must just have bad luck. Just try harder to please me, and I'll have more for you.

GP: Ok, I admit we work really well together. For some reason, I'm my real self around you; I'm able to communicate with others in a crisp way that I can't always manage without you. And you have taught me some really cool lessons over the years that might have taken decades to learn without you.

There you go, darling, remember the good parts. Here, I saved a Youtube video for you that you'll enjoy. Take a look, sweetie.

GP: There you go again! Always placating me with little weird gifts, aren't you? Your toys and trinkets are fun for a while, but when are you going to give me something worth keeping? something tangible?

I've been practicing my singing, want to hear? la-la-la

GP: I give up. This is getting ridiculous. I can't be with you any more. The highs are amazing, but I can't take the lows anymore. It's over, Mrs. Internet.

The Internet: It's Miss Internet, honey. Miss.

GP: No, it's Mrs., because you will never belong to me, never truly pay me back for the time and intimacy I give you. We're breaking up.

The Internet: It's Miss because you'll miss me. Now shut up and finish writing this so that people will give you Xanga comments and you'll have to spend even more time with me.

GP: Sigh. Can you at least get rid of a few pop-up ads, give me a few friendly stalkers who love sending me baked goods in the mail, and be boring when I have important real-life things going on?

The Internet: Oh, sure, I'll do my usual routine of cleaning up my act for a few days until you spend more time with me, followed by making you feel stupid for believing me. Now let me show you what I have in Facebook profiles today--you won't BELIEVE who just got into a relationship!
