Engaged! So in case you missed the latest news... Mike and I are engaged! Woot!
Check out Pace's reaction:

Last night she tried to chew on the diamond. I swear my dog has issues.
And it's still taking some getting used to. I mean, marriage used to be a taboo topic between Mike and I because I was so adament about not pressuring him into thinking about it. I realize that's extreme... but it was just not talked about at all. So now when I talk about "when we get married" or discuss anything weddingish... I get this odd feeling. I've been so independant for so long that it's a tough adjustment. And I realize that sounds ridiculous since I've been dating Mike for 4.5 years. But it's the truth. The items I purchased were mine. Pace was mine. If we ever split, I knew what was mine.... I OWNED those things. Now, it's going to be SO different. It's definitely a good feeling. But it's going to take some getting used to.
Tonight we're leaving to spend the weekend with his parents in VA. I'm so freaking nervous about telling them and I have no idea why. I know they'll be happy but I feel weird telling people that I'm engaged. It's a bit awkward.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After a full day of work, we headed into Manhattan to see Hairspray on Broadway. We took the PATH train in so after the show we walked back to Mike's car in Hoboken, NJ. He wanted to walk along the waterfront while I insisted it would be too cold over there (it's usually 10 degrees cooler and it's only one block away). Well, he convinced me and it was a beautiful, warm and clear night. The Empire State Building was lit up in purple and white and the skyline was amazing. We sat down on a bench to relax a bit and take it all in. After a few minutes Mike said "So.... I love you..." and reached into his pocket. Then said, "I wanted to know if you'll marry me." So I responded with a tearful, "of course."
And no, he didn't get down on one knee. Heh. But it was very cute and sincere so I'm not going to nitpick. After he asked, he had the biggest grin on his face that I've ever seen. I realized a few minutes later that I was actually shaking. As we walked back to the car... I couldn't stop staring at the ring. |
