What a Busy Summer

Wow... the last two weeks have been so incredibly busy for me. Sorry for not visiting everyone's Xanga pages. I've been going to the lab everyday, and trying to fill out my primary med school applications for US med schools, and also volunteering for the McGill orientation center. So yeah, I didn't really do anything else at all.

The coming three weeks before school starts for the fall semester are going to be full of work to do. I hope I'll at least be able to plan a roadtrip to NYC or something. I've never gone on a roadtrip with just friends and no family before, so it should be a great experience. I really should go out and have some fun before school starts, because I haven't even done anything for fun since the MCAT. My life sucks so much haha.

Today I was thinking that maybe I should forget about applying to the US med schools... I don't think I'll have the time to do it justice anyways. And besides, I would feel really weird asking a professor to mail letters of recommendation to like 20 schools lol. This is especially frustrating since US and Canadian med schools have different deadline dates... the professor will not be able to mail them all out at once. It's so complicated...

Anyways, there's more work to do. Bye!

Feeling Somewhat Neglected

Okay I'm in need of doing some ranting... this past week has been pretty crappy. First, since I had my MCAT last week, I haven't gone out to have fun at all -- mainly because it seems that EVERYONE is busy with something or someone. So I haven't been doing much in terms of having fun. Now normally, I could deal with that pretty decently, because I don't usually go out that much anyways. But what really bothers me is that my best friend is kind of neglecting his friends, including me. Yes he is busy with work, dragonboat, girlfriend, and family responsibilities, but everyone needs to stay in touch with their best friends. What really pissed me off was that he actually forgot that I had done my MCAT, and he didn't even call me that weekend to ask me how it went. And I thought... there's definitely something wrong when your best friend forgets something like this...

I don't mean to sound like such a bitchy and needy person, but I felt that he should have remembered something that is so important to me. However, I haven't confronted him about this yet, and I'm going to play along and see what happens eventually. I kind of want to see how far this whole thing would go before he realizes what he's doing. Our circle of friends often talk about how he is never around us anymore. We even once discussed the possibility that if one day he breaks up with his girlfriend, would he come running back to us to pass his time...

I know that once you have a boyfriend or a girlfriend, you tend to spend more and more of your time with that person. But I think it is extremely important that you keep your friendships alive. Good friendships require investments of time and energy... if you don't invest in it, it'll die away.

In the future when I get my own boyfriend, I would keep this in mind because I believe there needs to be a good balance between spending time with friends and spending time with the boyfriend. I need to also keep in mind to not be too possessive of my boyfriend either, because I would not want him to neglect his friends either.

We must understand and recognize the important of friendships.

Finally DONE!!

I am finally done with the MCAT! I certainly hope that this is the last time that I'd have to write the MCAT haha. I'll get my results in about 30 days. I think I did better than last time, but we'll see what happens when I get my results lol. *fingers crossed*

I've actually been going to bed at 9pm and waking up at 5am over the past 2 weeks or so, so that I can get used to waking up early for the MCAT. This was literally the death of my social life, but it was something I was willing to sacrifice in order to do well. I'll be slowly rejoining the rest of the social world over the next week :P

Hardcore Studying

I'm writing my MCAT on July 13th. This is my second time writing it, so hopefully I can do much better than last year. I've been studying quite a lot over the past couple of weeks, and I'll be really studying hardcore over the next 2.5 weeks. So I won't be posting for a while. Wish me luck! Bye!

New A/V Receiver

I just bought a new A/V Receiver for my home theater setup. The whole thing has been under planning for many months, and I'm hoping that by the end of July, the whole home theater will be complete. The receiver is the Sony STRDG910, which just came out a few weeks ago.

This receiver has some really great features, like advanced audio/video sync, and up-conversion of composite and component signals to HDMI. This is really the best feature because this means I can connect all my video devices to the receiver, and just output a single HDMI cable to the TV. Most other receivers at this price range ($650 CAD) don't have this capability, so this is definitely a great choice, even though it lacks S-video inputs (it's kind of stupid that Sony would omit this).

I will be getting speakers later on, and I'll post up photos :P

I found this video of an orchestra playing a medley of theme music from the various Mario games. I found it to be very entertaining :)
