  • How to break into ministry.

A lot of people have asked me, "Joel, I really want to go into full time ministry, I think I have what it takes to be success in this area of life."

First of all, I just lied to you... all of you. Nobody has asked that question to me. That I'm aware of. Sometimes when you're talking, I completely space out. Not because I have A.D.D. or anything like that, I just happen to find your voice completely boring. But that's besides the point.

Ministry is not glamorous. At least the kind of ministry that we're called to live by. The one where we humble ourselves when somebody does us wrong, and what do we do? Forgettaboutit. Because we're aware that we've done others wrong. A true minister is not one who makes sure that you give money to him, but the one who gives his money. When a single parent with two children can't afford the things we take for granted each day, who will step up to help them? Perhaps Obama in all the glory of his "Yes, You Can" will personally show up on the doorstep to remind them they're loved, and will hand them bag of assorted food items. My guess is that he'll be busy in the White House trying to change the curtains so his dark skinned complexion goes well with his photoshoot.

That leaves it up to us, as a community, not only of Christians, but a world of others who want to make a difference in the lives of others, simply by loving their neighbors. Even if it means to sacrafice the things in our own lives. Because the greatest minister to have ever walked this earth, walked as a homeless man, and did so by his own choosing.

I wonder if high class preachers, living in mansions, wearing custom made suits make Jesus sad.

  • The Road to Boston

I've started up running again. Its been long enough that my entire body felt sore from a 30 minute run Saturday evening. Tonight, however, much much improved, and I feel much better. Goal is to get into the Boston Marathon.I take that back, my goal is to win it.

I'll now take your questions. Yes, you with the ugly outfit...

Okay, Joel. We know that you're athletic, but Boston? That's a bit much. I think you're delusional, and thinking highly too much in your own ability.

Yes. But if you never dream, and never believe that you can accomplish the big things in life, then you are already doomed to never succeed in those things.

It is great that you can think positive, but you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

The best runners sometimes stumble and fall. I'm putting myself in a position for success. Also I'm hoping there's a minor earthquake, and while everyone tries to figure out what's going on, I keep running past them. Pretty cool.

    Earthquake. In... Boston? hahaha.

Nothing is impossible. Not even me winning the Boston marathon.

What in the heck made you decide to even ATTEMPT to qualify?

    Winning gets you $100,000.

I believe you can win this, always have.

    Thank you for your support.

  • master of the ceremonies

    you're a ghastly soul
    draped in white linen
    pleading guilt
    seeking forgiveness
    you take stage
    make your moves
    gracefully
    display your truth
        (a grand production of prevarication)
    make it clear:
        (just a lowly sufferer!
             of uninvited circumstances!)
    when the ploy is bought
    I've seen the twinkle
of the eyes, the hidden grins
    a chattering mind
         (in love of itself)
there is still one court, not yet faced
    in this lifetime
    awaiting to set trial
to a trail of broken hearts
         (from start to last)
    and without real sorrow
there will be no real mercy
