| 2007 AWARDSWell, as always, I have picked the best of the best to be recognized this year. Remember this is only an opinion-based award, and yours may differ. But I recommend all of the following to people. lets get the OBVIOUS one out of the way first. 2007 FILM OF THE YEAR
Did anyone expect anything different from me, Jason Miller, the world's biggest Simpsons nerd? I thought not... 2007 ALBUM OF THE YEAR 2007 was a much anticipated year for me, music wise. With new releases from some of my all time favorites, such as Chevelle, Linkin Park, The Exies, Sum 41, Avenged Sevenfold, and the Debut Solo album from former System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian, I expected a LOT. However, most of these albums failed to impress me, at least when compared to previous works by these artists. There was only one band that far exceeded my expectations. I've always liked this band a lot, but they were never in my "upper echelon" of bands. Until now. In 2002, this band released their self titled album that got me into them. In 2004, they released an album so powerful, so awesome that it is likely one of my top 10, maybe top 5 albums of all time. It did not win album of the year, because American Idiot (my all time favorite album) also came out that year. But in 2007, now this band can finally claim its legacy with me. Ladies and Gentleman, the best album of 2007 IS..........
Not only has Jimmy Eat World released two of my all time favorite albums in a three year span, they've indeed cemented themselves solidly in my top five bands of all time. ROCK ON As for my song of the year... well... I couldn't decide. So, I doing something unthinkable and having CO-SONGS OF THE YEAR!! 2007 CO-SONGS OF THE YEAR
As for the second song, I'd also like to award the artists my BEST NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR award
Fair To Midland is a new band that if you have not heard yet, you need to check out immediately. They have the most unique sound I have ever heard, it's like Folk Metal. And Paralyzer is just too damn catchy to overlook, even if the radio somewhat killed it. And there you have it, my annual Jason Awards | | |
| How bored am I right now? So bored that I'm updating my xanga. So here is what's up. I am currently working full time at Isaacs, not part time. We had a lot of personnel leave in a short timespan so pretty much everyone who is not in HS is getting FT hours. Fortunately this started just as I started on my fall break, so I was able to be there whenever. However, today was the first day back at classes so now I am a full time deli worker AND a full time student. Pretty chaotic, fortunately we have some new people starting this week and next so everything will be back to normal soon. This may be the reason Ive been ridiculously stressed out lately. Speaking of school, some of you may be wondering how I did my first term. Brace yourselves for this... 3.0. However, it was because of two A's and two C's. Still, considering my HACC GPA and my Cumberland Valley GPA.... a 3.0 is like honors for me. It gives me plenty of comfort in case I do have a class that is not to my liking, which does not appear to be this term because I like them all so far. Things could definitely be a lot worse right now. So if I work full time and go to school full time, what do I do in my spare time? What spare time? In all honesty, I do not have a lot of spare time but in it, I do one of two things. Spend it with Sherri, or play poker at the G-man in Mechanicsburg. I've taken first place three consecutive Monday nights there! Going for four this coming Monday. Ive got some exciting stuff planned. At the end of this month ill be going up to Penn St for an entire weekend. Ill be attending the PSU-Ohio St football game, which I desperately want PSU to win because I hate OSU. On November 4, I will be going to the Eagles game with Sherri and Keira. They play Dallas who is by far the best NFC team this year, but these two teams have proven to be evenly matched throughout history so im hoping for a barnburner of a game. I dont really like either team so ill just root for the eagles to avoid being shot, stabbed, or whatever else the diehard philly fans like to do to outsiders. (Actually it would be HILARIOUS to wear a Terrell Owens Cowboy Jersey...) I just want a good game, every NFL game ive ever been to has been one-sided. I want David Akers to nail a 50+ yarder as time expires to give the eagles a 2 pt win, or something to that effect. Then the week after that is our birthdays. Cant believe I am almost 23. Sick. I dont feel it at all (but thats what happens when I work with mostly highschoolers, and attend college with mostly 18-19 year olds) Well thats everything for now. Ill probably update around thanksgiving or christmas next, because thats my style. Take care everyone! | | |
| Xanga is still around??? Damn... | | |
| Well it's been forever since I've written a life update. And, as tends to be the case when you don't post one in forever, a lot has happened. Lets start with the big stuff. I no longer am working at Giant. I quit. I was tired of working there 8-15 hours a week. That is not nearly enough to live off of, and not only that, I feel I was being mistreated. There was an incident where i had requested off of work for something, and got scheduled anyways. Then when explaining how i could not work, I was later told that I would be fired if I didn't work that day. So I told them I'd work it, but after that, that was it. Fortunately, I found another job shortly after that at Isaac's Deli in the Silver Springs Commons. I work in the deli, making sandwiches and such, about 30 hours a week. Its not bad so far. I am definitely happier there than I was at Giant. I am still working morning at Subway. I'm getting kind of sick of it though. I'm also getting sick of working two jobs. I usually end up working about 55 hours a week, and I only sleep for about 40-45 on average. I've been really drained lately and have not had a lot of free time, unless I sacrifice more sleep. I came to the conclusion I did not want to live this way much longer. But what can a guy do in this modern world with no degree, other than work jobs at restaurants and delis, for hours he has no control over. That is why, after much consideration, much talking with friends and family, I decided to do something about it. I took a visit over to the Central Penn College. I really liked what i saw, its a very small campus, the class sizes are considerably smaller than HACCs, or even CVs for that matter, which may bea good thing. It can prevent students that are prone to not doing well, such as myself, from getting lost in the crowd so to speak. I don't have to worry about being with my friends 24/7 at Central Penn. If I am struggling, I can seek help from the teacher, for they have a lot less students to deal with. So on my visit, I filled out an application. I got a letter earlier this week saying they've received my applications but not my HS and college transcripts, but those should be in this week at the latest. So I'll know hopefully by next week whether or not I will be accepted. I'm really hoping I get in. If I don't, I know it will be because of my not-so-stellar past record at school, but I really hope I've matured enough to change my future record. And as soon as I hear anything, anything at all, positive or negative, I shall post it on here for the world to read. That's about all thats going on. In summation, quit giant, started at isaacs, and applied to go back to college. Only time will tell from here on out... | | |
| It's never too late to change your favorite...I know I just updated yesterday but I got a lot on my mind that I wanted to write down today. For those of you who do not know this, I am, and have been a die hard Atlanta Falcons fan ever since I was about 5 or 6 years old and started watching football. It's been a rough road with some high points, but many many low points. Some high points include the 1998 Superbowl, even if we did lose to Denver. But for the most part, the low points have outweighed the high. The Atlanta Falcons are the only franchise in the NFL that has never had back to back winning seasons (for those saying the Texans never have either, youre right, but the Oilers did). That was expected to change in 2001 when we made some trades to get ourselves the first overall pick in the draft. With that pick, we drafted Michael Vick, who seemed poised to be a huge star. 2002 and 2004 were both great seasons, with us going far into the playoffs each year but losing to the eagles each time. Unfortunately, 2005 is where the wheels seemed to fall off the Vickmobile... Last year, Vick was sued by a woman claiming that Vick had given her the Herpes virus. Vick was later found guilty of those charges. To make matters worse, this is not the only time he has done this. Because the Alias he used at the time when ''fooling around with women' was Ron Mexico, this became known as the Ron Mexico Scandal. Apparently, having the Herpes virus doesn't scare off every girl, because soon after all this, Vick started dating someone. Just before the start of this season, they found pictures on Michael's girlfriend's Myspace site of them doing drugs. Why anyone would post such a thing in their picture section is beyond me. More on this stuff later, because in between the time this happened and now, we have the home loss to Cleveland this year. After Vick committed one of his several turnovers against the browns late in the 4th quarter while driving to win the game, the fans started to boo. They were booing because Vick played absolutely horrendous all game. So what does Vick do? He flicks them all off, thats what. Gives his HOME FANS BOTH middle fingers. If that isnt probable cause for kicking a player off of a team, I dont know what is. Then just earlier this week, Vick was caught at an Airport in Miami with marijuana. ESPN experts have been talking about it all week, discussing matters such as whether Vick will stay in Atlanta or not. New head coach Bobby Petrino and General Manager Rich McKay declined to comment on Vick's status with the Falcons, but I can tell you one thing... If Atlanta decides to keep Michael Vick on their roster... I think I need a new faovrite team. A lot of people say that Vick is the MVP of the Falcons and the only reason they win games. I tend to disagree, I think his off field distractions actually HURT the Falcons and cause them to LOSE more games. I guess it all boils down to one question... Why should I look up to someone who passes around the Herpes virus better than he does a damn football, frequently uses drugs and flicks off people who have supported him for so long? What kind of role model is that? The quarterback is supposed to be a team leader and with a leader like this I don't see a bright future, if a future at all with this team. I can only tolerate so much but this is absurd. I'm sure there wont be any official decisions til after the seasons over and its around the Draft and free agent signings, but if Atlanta still has this joke in the 7 shirt next year, I think I will either pick a new team or just not have a favorite at all. Any thoughts on this? | | |
