A little church history

"Christians shall not Judaize and be idle on Saturday, the Sabbath, but shall work on that day; but the Lord's day (Sunday) they shall especially honor, and, as being Christians, shall, if possible, do no work on that day. If, however, they are found Judaizing, they shall be shut out from Christ."

---Canon 29, Council of Laodicea, 364 BC.

Wow... that's a rather chilling statement. I don't remember God saying that. I learned about this last night in Bible study. Up until now, I'd only heard of the Council of Laodicea in passing historical references. It's really scary what most of the Gentile "church fathers" believed, and it's even more scary how we just accept it as fact and don't question their doctrine at all.

This statement is clearly and strongly telling Christians to violate the Fourth Commandment. Not only that, but the people are threatened with being shut out from the church if they "judaize", or obey what God said. Funny, I didn't realize obeying God was "Jewish". Let's see what God has to say about that:

19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. -Matthew 5:19

Hmmm... sounds serious to me. Last I checked, the Ten Commandments weren't just for the Jews, and apparently Jesus thought so too. I wonder how many regular lay Christians know that their Gentile church fathers wanted them to violate the Ten Commandments. I'd guess it's not many. Just one more reason why I'm less and less enamored with "mainstream Christianity". The more studying I do, the more apparent it becomes that what Jesus and the apostles really taught got screwed up somewhere down the line, mostly due to anti-Semitic Gentiles leading the early church.

Mainstream Christianity needs a wake-up call, and badly. I think a return to God's Commandments and what Jesus really taught and lived is that wake-up call. You want to know why the church (especially the American church) is dead? It's because, at worst, we've preached for the last 1700 years that we don't have to obey the Ten Commandments, because they're "Jewish", and at best, we ignore them altogether or shove them aside as irrelevant because Christ died. I'm sorry, but "Jesus died so His Commandments are done away with" is not only terrible theology, it also makes no logical sense.

My Presidential endorsement is...

As most of you are aware (and if you're not aware, you need to reassess your cardiovascular functions) that this is a Presidential election year. We are now stuck with a crappier than usual field, the likes of which hasn't been seen since Clinton vs. Dole. Here is a non-partisan analysis of the candidates:

Obama: He's black...

but seriously, it's time for him to shut up now. You can only use the words "hope" and "change" so many times before they become tedious. We still haven't heard him tell us a single thing he's going to do, other than raise our taxes.

Of course, since he's a "good Democrat", you can bet "change" means "more change out of your pocket", and "hope" means "giving said money to worthless losers". Same old socialist story, with a Messianic twist.

My hero. Justin Timberlake has more substance than this twit.

McCain: An old geezer who was a war hero. He writes bills that restrict our free speech so we can't say mean things about him 90 days before an election. Falls all over himself to lick the boots of the socialist Democrats. Oh, and he has all the warmth and charisma of an eggplant. Thanks for serving in Vietnam, John, but that hardly qualifies you to be President. (gee, that sounds familiar... wasn't there another John who served in 'Nam?)

As you can see, the field is somewhat less than stunning ( I nominate the previous statement for Understatement of the Year).

In years past, I would have been gung ho for McCain; not because I thought he was that great, but because I wanted to stick it to the Democrats, since they're usually far worse. However, as time as gone on, I've noticed less and less difference between the two parties. Neither are interested in shrinking the government, or decreasing regulations, or making us independent on foreign oil, or even in obeying the Constitution. It's all just "Let's do whatever the heck we feel like, and we'll only change if somebody rich enough screams loud enough."

I'm sick of the crap, and I'm doing something about it. Instead of sticking with the status quo, I'm doing something I've never done before. Yes, that's right ladies and gentlemen(?), I'm voting for a third party. Libertarian to be exactingly precise. Their candidate, Bob Barr, posseses all of the elements that make up a classic statesman, without all of the bureaucratic baggage. He is also the author of “The Meaning of Is, The Squandered Impeachment and Wasted Legacy of William Jefferson Clinton". With a book like that, you know he's a classic American patriot.

The issue that heightens my attentive senses the most is his statement on his website that big government and big spending are the root of all America's problems. I absolutely agree.

I know many of you out there share my frustration with our ridiculous two party system that has done more to screw up America than pretty much anything else. I ask you now to join me this November and vote for somebody who actually does stand for "change" and "hope". It's just the kind of change and hope that puts fear into the hearts of the establishment government. And that, my friends, is always a good thing.

One of my new favorite anime openings. Zany and mostly gibberish, but oh so catchy... the show is hilarious, too. :D No subs here, but you really don't need them, since the words make no sense anyway.

And a classic, for your pleasure.

Well that didn't take long. I make my return to debating on Xanga, this time about Christian theology instead of politics, and I get blocked by another tolerant member (supposedly) of my own faith.

PastorBlastor is the culprit this time. He deleted all my posts and blocked me for the heretical sin of disagreeing with his theology. Apparently I'm now a "legalist" because I take John at his word when he said "Those who love God keep His commandments". He even called God's laws in the Old Testament "paganism", because it's supposedly not from Jesus. Nevermind that Jesus WROTE the friggin Commandments!

He claims to be a pastor, but no pastor I've ever met was such a Biblical dunce.

So it's been awhile since I've updated this thing. Facebook has taken over my social networking needs. It beats the crap out of MySlut, and is definitely better than Xanga.

I've been keeping busy at work, and watching anime in my free time. This past weekend was Passover, and I celebrated it with my Bible study group and about 50 random strangers. It was amazing! I don't know why Christians of today want to throw this out when it has so much meaning and prophecy attached to it.

Probably has something to do with 1800 years of Roman Catholic influence on modern denominations.
