I have found that the modern church has an extremely perverse view of our "relationship with Christ." As they say "they are all gone aside, there is none that understands."
I attribute this mainly to what I believe to be feminized christianity. As the culture as emasculated the male gender, the evangelical movement of America has changed dramatically to conform is worship to fit this newly feminine generation. Christianity, which once was a very virile religion, and religion of suffering, fighting, passion, and loyalty to our God and King, has turned into a somewhat womanly cult, seeking not to follow a king, but to have a "personal relationship with Jesus," never begging for mercy, confessing our sins in tears, falling on our knees, bowing, and going prostrate as in the Christianity of Old, but rather singing love songs to man much like a girl sings to her lover.
One may find it odd when they enter a Catholic, or Orthodox, or Lutheran church, and find people falling on their knees, bowing before the cross, and crying "Lord, Have mercy!" Singing psalms that start "Oh Lord, Rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure!" and Confessing the words "I have sinned grievously, and deserve your temporal, and eternal punishment."
One may find it odd, the old-school manliness of their songs, that during their worship, they sing hymns that read:
"The Son of God goes forth to war, A kingly crown to gain
his bloodred banner streams afar; who follows in his train?
Who best can drink His cup of woe, Triumphant over pain,
who patient bears his cross below-He floows in his train."
and celebrate not with the words "Jesus loves me" but "be of good cheer, your sins have been forgiven!"
No, the modern evangelical looks for a "personal relationship with Jesus," sings songs that read "Lord Jesus I love you." and have an odd obsession with the obscure verse "For God so loved the world..." seeing it as some sort of romantic confession of feelings for humanity.
Yet, never have I read in the bible about any "personal relationship" or ever heard Paul or Solomon sing over and over "I love you Jesus." Never has a single verse been given power over the entire word of God. But the words "have mercy" is the most common phrase in the bible, the words "I have sinned," the words "Oh lamb of God!"
Though Christ is the bride of the church, and he surely loves us, he is by no means just some lover, he is a Kingly Warrior, a Just Judge, and he will come again to Judge the living and the dead, whos kingdom will have no end,only to spare those who beg for mercy.
Our individual relationship is not one of a good buddy or enamored soul holding Jesus hand, but one of utterly grateful leper, a thankful degenerate, and at our best, an ever-loyal soldier in the army of Gods anointed, with Christ as our general.
This is the "masculine" christianity that has been lost. But if we truly want to blaspheme the meaning of the word of God, and truly want to continue to make our men into women, or force them into alienation, then surely we should not change how we run our churches, its all good.

| -=)(Yet Another boring Theological Topic)(=-Let's talk Mary.
I took a friend of mine to church with me, and we sang a hymn there called, and the refrain was "Mary, most highly favored lady, Gloria."
Of course my evangelical friend was appalled by such Mariology! Most highly favored lady? what kind of Idolatry is this?!?! (Let me now remind you that that line is straight from the Word of God).
Evangelicals have an odd hatred of all things catholic, even if there is no reason behind it. Mary? thats catholic! none of that. Saints? thats catholic! none of that. Organs? Thats catholic! none of that. Why? for no other reason than that evangelicals detest 2/3 of the worlds christians.
I love to say the words " The blessed virgin Mary, mother of God" in front of evangelicals, and when they lash out in rage, calling me a satan and cursing the ground upon which i stand, i merely have to call them a heretic, and the game is won. Why?
lets think, oh ye Nicene christians, if Jesus is fully God, and Mary gave birth to Jesus, then Mary is mother of God. Amazazing!
She's in the bible guys, get over it.
Besides, did you know that Mary is single handidly responsible for all Chivalry and Women rights movements in the west? Amazing....

| -=)(Cheer Up)(=-So lately, due to school and an odd array of unlucky situations, i have been in undesired contact with the emo subculture. Emo is short for Emocore which is short for Emotional Hardcore. Like christian- science (which is neither christian nor science), emotional-hardcore culture (or 'emo') is neither emotional nor hardcore. Don't you need to be able to recognize more than 2 emotions to be emotional? Sad is one, yes, two? come on emo boy, you can name a second, no despondent does not count.....
I find it humorous that the emo community views itself as somehow superior and more in touch with 'the cold sad reality' than the rest of us whistling, happy-go-lucky churchgoers. They speak to you with condescention, as if every word demands "you dont know what i've been through!" So why do they think they are better than you? Cause they are weak, scrawny, cry alot, and are scared of light and all it touches (which accounts for approx. 10000% of the universe, Mark, check my facts). Oddly though, emo boys tend to get alot of girls, some of whom are not even emo...
This struck me as odd, why would girly men who wear womens pants, have womens hair, and cry like little pansies get the ladies? Then i found out after watching VH1 (for the first time, and yes, now we have cable) that Emo is now COOL! Yes, the board of fashion has announced that for the next 3 years there will be a sale on 'cool' in the emo department.
Also, So far all the emo kids i've had the displeasure to speak to call themselves "existentialists" meaning that each human creates their own meaning for life. I think i prefer Droopy's definition:
Existentialism/ex-is-ten-tial-sim [eg-zi-sten-shuh-liz-uh-m] - noun - a philosophical attitude that posits you should wipe your bum with gerbils.

| -=)(Just Two Jerks, Playing with Matches)(=-Having stayed up till 6 AM giving someone a vicious lashing with my overly grandiloquent elocution, accomplishing nothing but having assured myself of several lies and empty promises, i've found that i really need to stop trying to prevent putrescent wedding plans. I can see it now, George declares defeat in all things of romance, Katherine jumps up from her chair as she reads this, thinking "God, yes, finally you jerk!"
And the reason for such craven defeatism is that, i finally asked myself this question: but then again, who am i?
and its a really good question
and has a way of focusing you greatly on your own self-consuming pride and vainglory in my insight, and the sin of it all.
so really, who am i?
So now, all most can hope is that i dont proceed to respond to that question with the answer "Oh yeah, I'm George," which would seal the truth of my amour-propre.
Really, i just need to stop caring, about anyone.
