Alkali Metals Lithium Sodium Potassium RubidiumCesiumFrancium Shiny, good conductors. Not found in pour form.React violently with oxygen. One electron in outer energy level.Readily form compounds which are white in color.Form compounds by losing electrons. Form ionic bonds.
Alkali Earth Metals BerylliumMagnesiumCalciumStrontiumBariumRadium Slightly less reactive. White metals. Higher melting point. Most commonly used. Slightly less reactive, less violent. Mg-found in sea water, lightweight aircraft, medicines. Ca- most common. Bones, rocks, minerals. Ba & Sr- both used to produce colors in fireworks.Ra- radioactive, bombard cancer cells with radiation. Two electrons in outer energy level. Form compounds by losing electrons. Form covalent bonds.
Transition Metals Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, C, Ni, Cu, Zn, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Tc, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Cd, In, La, Hf, Ta, W, Os, Ir, Pt, Au, Hg Contain familiar metals. As we move left to right, properties change. Forms alloys-mixtures of metals. One or two electrons in the outer energy level. Gain or lose electrons. Form ionic bonds.
Boron Family BoronAluminumGalliumIndiumThallium All elements are metals. Except B, is dull and brittle. And it is only found in compounds. Boron, eg. Boron acid, Borax-laundry product. Contains three electrons in the outer energy level. Share electrons. Form Covalent bonds.
Carbon Family CarbonSiliconGermaniumTinLead Carbons burns. Most important element in living things. Earth- carbon based life forms. Source of energy-complex carbohydrates-pasta. Candy-simple carbohydrate. Silicon 2nd most abundant element in the crest of the earth. Germanium-conducts electricity. Sn & Pb- metals-alloys-mixture of metals. Four outer electrons in outer energy level. Form compounds by sharing electrons.
Nitrogen Family NitrogenPhosphorusArsenicAntimonyBismuth N is the smallest atom and only gas in group. P is a nonmetal needed by all loving thingsas used as rat posion and as weed killer. Sb is used to increase hardness of alloys.Bi is used to lower the melting point of alloy. Contains 5 outer electrons in outer energy level. Tends to share electrons. Forms covalent bonds.
Oxygen Family OxygenSulfurSeleniumTelluriumPolonium O-most abundant in the crust, 20% of our air. Absolutely a necessity by human life. Animals and plants need respiration. 2 forms, O2-oxygen gas- in air 03-ozone-stratosphere-protexts us from harmful UV ray. Contains 6 outer electrons in outer energy level. Tends to share electrons.Forms covalent bonds.
Halogens FluorineChlorineBromineIodineAstatine Most nonmetals and chemically reactive. Never found alone. Found in compounds. Contains 7 outer electrons in outer energy level. Form ionic bond.
Noble Gases HeliumNeonArgonKryptonXenonRadon He- discovered in 1968, 2nd lightest of all gases, lighter than air-balloon, blimps.Ne- glows with an electric current. Kr- added to light bulbs. Xe- high speed photography. 8 outer energy levels.Full. Completely stable.Never combine.
Synthetic Elements Rf,Db,Sg,Bh,Hs,Mt,Uun,Uuu,Uub,Uut,Uuq,Uup,Uuh,Uus,Uuo Man made. Atomic # with 93 and above. Radioactive-nuclear reactions in labs. Five outer electrons is outer energy level.Form coumpounds by gaining or shraing electrons
Hydrogen Hydrogen-orphan Behaves like a halogen. Because its diatomic and it’s a gas. Colorless, odorless, tasteless, flammable 1 outer electron in outer energy level. Stands alone

Dear Kitty,

This would be my last entry to write to you my dear friend. Somehow, we have been discovered in our secret hiding place. The Nazis are now breaking open our door with full force. I am very frightened of what will happen to my family and me. It has been a great time writing to you my dear friend. We thought that we would survive living in this hiding place of ours. But we were wrong, and now we must face the consequences. I have been waiting the day that my family and me will be able to go outside just how it was before. But I’m afraid that day will never come. Although you are nothing more than a diary, I have shared you my deepest secrets and thoughts. I have always thought of you as a friend to talk to. Through the times I was lonely and needed a friend to talk to, you were always there. You kept me company when father and mother put it hard on me. I regret how we should have found a better way of escaping this problem we have now. But the only thing I don’t regret is how I made friends with the people I lived among. Through the years I’ve laughed, argued, and knew these people, I have gotten to know them better as a friend and as a family member. Now, I must depart from you my dear friend. Hopefully, someday I will find a way to reach you again. I will miss you dearly and sadly.

Your friend,
Anne Frank
