  • What are your thoughts on assisted suicide? Is it in any way acceptable?

I realize that this is a very personal issue. However, after working closely with a couple of terminally ill folks and being involved in the mental health field I have my own slant on this. When a person becomes so debilitated that they cannot speak, eat, bathe, wipe themselves nor move around by themselves there is no quality of life. Each day they struggle to just draw a breath on their own is not really living. Is it fair to let anyone go through this if the have a desire to be free from their torture, or to ask them to wait until their condition gets to this point if it is known to be inevitable? It is selfish to keep them with us just to satisfy our own emotional needs or what we consider to be the "right and moral thing"to do.If they have the ability to make these decisions and carry them out in a manner acceptable to them it should be left to them to make the choice.I do not feelthat I would choose to "live"  in such a manner if I were faced with such a challenge.

  • Police are on the ball!

What a day!I took Jared to a class in Elkhart,Ind. this evening and had an interesting voice mail on my cell when we came out.Gary had found his BB gun where I had hid it and proceeded to take it outside and point it at passing cars.Someone called it in and our entire street was blocked off by police!!!!It had been reported as a kid with a shotgun!!!This was only the second time Kayla had sat for the kids,I hope it didn't traumatize her too much. The officer came down to talk with me and let me know what had happened,he agreed that it was just a stupid, impulsive act on Gary's behalf and no charges will be filed.Needless to say,Gary will have no TV or other priviledges foe the neaxt 4 days!!!I sometimes wonder if I am just getting to old and tired to keep up with all of this!!!

  • What are some things you appreciate your mother for?

Until I had 10 children and adopted children of my own I had NO CLUE as to the endless patience and stamina it took to be constantly on call for every bump, bruise, ouchey, fever, broken heart or serious illness. My mom raised 8 children of her own without help or complaints. She was a great cook and always had room for one more as our cousins often spent summers with us as well as a constant stream of our friends! We had little at times but never felt the sting of this nor knew the difference until we were older. She passed away from cancer shortly before her 57th birthday. Her last words to my dad were "I'm sad for you."She was thinking of others until she was gone.We all miss her.
