Why did I go to Iowa? Well, my cousin Erik has been working down there all summer, and from what I could gather, was about to rip his eyeballs out from boredom. So, I went down and spent a weekend with him. All these pictures are from one afternoon/evening. We kept busy, and had a really good time. We stumbled across a carnival/fair, walked the length of Clear Lake City (which was almost completely deserted), got some food at the grocery store and ate by the river, went out for ice cream, and stayed up til three in the morning watching a movie and half a dozen Cosby Show episodes. Yup. It was fun. :D

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

I just re-realized that I will be voting for the next presidential candidate! We can do everything in our power to promote world peace by avoiding the issues of other countries and keeping our eyes in our small portion of the world, but controversy and strife will eventually reach us if we try to avoid it or not. Now I am *not* saying, "Well, if war will reach us sooner or later, might as well dive in just for the heck of it right now!" I am saying, you can try to avoid, but it isn't possible! How can you in good conscience close your eyes to the ruin happening in other countries? We do many wonderful things like Feed the Children, and sending doctors into Africa, and giving food to the Iraqis, these things have an amazing impact on thousands of lives, sadly, this has not changed the fact that poverty, sickness, death, and cruelty live on. They are amazing programs, led by amazing people, but that still doesn't fix this broken world.

It will always have turmoil, and we cannot just sit back and say, "This world is a yucky, tangled, place, oh well!" We have to try and fix it! Which we are doing, but we do unfortunately have to take aggressive action! Ever heard the saying that once you've learned from the school of hard knocks you can't learn any other way? Some people are like that, and when some of those people are in power, it is disasterous.

People sacrifice their lives for what they believe, and so very often people's beliefs conflict. No matter who you are you believe in something, even if it's 'nothing'. If it is really the right belief, shouldn't we fight for it? We can say, "I promote world peace!" but then how can we sit back and let a country destroy itself? If we truely believe in world peace, and truly believe in freedom, then we have to fight for it! If we believe in liberty and justice for all, does that mean that 'all' only includes Americans? If so, then we should cross that out and put, "liberty and justice for all Americans". Think about it.

I've rather rambled all over, try to make some sense of it, and there are probably some holes in my arguments, if you see any, please tell me, as I am tired right now and am not going to be able to catch everything. Thanks!
