Quaker Parrots

I couldn't get close enough for a good picture before I scared them off, but here is a photo that I took in my yard on Saturday morning.  Those are three "Quaker parrots" that are feeding at one of my feeders.  There is a group of a dozen or so of them in my neighborhood, and there are in fact several other groups of them around town in Dallas.  I see them and hear them all the time, but it has taken me a while to get them to my feeder.  This is only the second time that I have seen them feeding.  They are apparently descendants of escaped pets.  They are not native to Texas, although they clearly thrive here.

They look like pets, don't they?  ("descendants of escaped pets...") Certainly don't look like the typical bird we see in this part of the world.  Very pretty!

We actually have hundreds of feral Quaker parrots in Brooklyn, right in our neighborhood...

I have one in a cage in the 'birds room'.  Noisy little buggers they are but they talk though mine is unable to whistle like the cockatiels.

We always are amazed to see such wonderful birds nearly even if they are pet descendant become back to the wildlife ( or almost ) , to freedom at least .

In friendship

There is parrot-like bird here - called a black witch. It looks like a parrot with a very long tail but is completely black. They congregate on bushes and chatter away very noisily but I've never managed to get them to come and get them  tofeed.
