Welcome to my Humble Walk

  • Monday Morning

Today's the day I begin my project. I've offered prayers and prepared the bathroom for demolition. My goals are to be under budget and complete by Friday at 5:00 PM. I look forward to posting a progress report this evening.

And here's a funny thing ... at least to me.  I bought a Domino's Pizza, breadsticks and salad last night, which were pretty darn good!  (I usually buy from Pizza Hut.)  But here's what was on the side of the box:

    CORRU-SKELETAL TECHNOLOGY
    This box has been engineered
    to protect the pizza inside
    against crushing forces.

    THERMO-EXHAUST TECHNOLOGY
    This box has been engineered
    with thermal exhaust ports for
    optimal crust consistency.

I don't know about you ... but that gave me a good laugh!  Maybe the Domino's box makers are connected with NASA in some way.

Here are the prayer requests and praises I've seen based on recent entries in your blogs. I hope each of us might take just a second to touch your computer screen and say "Lord hear our prayers."  He knows the details.

  • Saturday's Blah Blah Blog

The gals made it safely to the airport for their "I see England, I see France" tour.  They should be in Europe around 11:00 London time, tomorrow.

As for me, I have a project in front of me ... a serious project, indeed!  I will be replacing the cracked tub/shower in our bathroom with a whirlpool tub and shower. I've never taken on any home project of quite this magnitude before, so it should be interesting.  I'll keep ya'll posted on my progress through next week.

Just finished "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein. Each year I try to read a few pieces of classic fiction. This one is from the Sci-fi genre. I used to enjoy reading sci-fi and fantasy a lot. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Dune books, Lucifer's Hammer, The Inferno and of course, Lord of the Rings are all favorites.

This one ... I threw straight into the recycling bin. Ugh. I only bothered to finish it so I could say "Bought it, read it, tossed it."  It was one of those books that I could see "why" it is considered a classic, but the storyline made me want to hurl.

So ... I'll have to make a point that the next one I read is one I'm more likely to enjoy.

Well .. guess I'd better finish cleaning the house and get ready for bed.

    Blessings to you all!

  • Blah Blah Blog - Mid Week

    Ho - Kay!
Seems I've not been able to make it to Xanga much this week.  Here's a quick update. Maybe I'll follow up on some of the stories ... but than again ... maybe NOT, as there is still quite a bit ahead.

I changed the oil and sharpened the blades on the lawnmower. Also gave the lawn it's first good mow. Sprayed dandelions and hoed up some broadleafs.

I bought a few new plants for the butterfly garden. All the ones I put in last fall are green and growing. I'm optimistic for a lovely garden.

There's a stray Tom Cat hanging around in the alley near the butterfly garden. He'll come to me. I did catch him once and put him under a laundry basket until I could call a family that may have lost him. He freaked! I let him loose, but not without some scratches.

By the way ... I'm very allergic to cats, these days.

I interviewed for a new job position, today. Same company and similar pay, but it will be a nice change of pace if I can get it.

Last Sunday, I was asked to fill in for the pastor of Donna's church on July 20th. That was an honor.

Rolling Thunder choir was small this evening - but seemed particularly connected in both the music and devotion. They are scheduled to join us at another nursing home on May 31.

Helping my daughter figure out info for grad schools.

Helped SaintVi and Trebleclef402 with the Great Frog Race and the associated video. Check out SaintVi's site for the show.

Been planning on how to replace a tub/shower when the gals are in England next week. Mercy ... THAT will be a project!

Other than that ... things are pretty much normal.

  • Sunday Prayers

Below are a few prayer requests I have seen from your recent blogs. I hope each of us will take a moment to touch the computer screen and and say "Lord, hear our prayers." He knows the details.
If you have a prayer or praise you would like to share, please feel to either post it or send me a message.

    May your Sunday be blessed

RiverCritter - That he might have a good truck trainer, since it will be 6 weeks on the road together.
IsThisALifeWorthLiving - Discernment regarding a new job possibility. Some things appear questionable.
LadyBlue1 - That she may receive clear spiritual direction in matter(s) of church and family
GelatineMonkey - That he may receive clear spiritual direction and support (money and prayer) for his mission purpose in Japan.

  • Well ... what do you know?

I just came across the following article: Evangelicals Say Faith is Now Too Political

    Here's the opening line:
Conservative Christian leaders who believe the word "evangelical" has lost its religious meaning plan to release a starkly self-critical document saying the movement has become too political and has diminished the Gospel through its approach to the culture wars.

Most of you are aware that Melinda and I left our Baptist Church home of about 17 years last fall. Their spin on things was that we left because I had "theological differences."

I do ... but I did for quite a while and didn't let that trouble me. What DID trouble me was that I felt the leadership in our church AND the evangelical church at large was becoming overly focused on political issues, to the point of pushing particular "Christian agenda" items in Sunday School classes, small group studies and the pulpit. This was the REAL reason I felt a need for change.

I'm delighted to see that there are at least some leaders out there who are thinking that things may have gone too far. And for better or worse, I have a naughty sense of self satisfaction to see my thoughts are now being affirmed by more prominent church leaders.

    Amen.

  • January Stones

    Winter weary air rests,

Breathless, damp and cool on snow flat grass.

First drops fall on the barely born lawn

Pushing through the thick morning dawn.

Sparrows laugh in the year’s first shower,

Chirps dancing with the thick raindrops

Upon roofs and streets and puddles where

Flakes once sat white and light until they became

Gray and heavy and hard and tired.

    January stones yield,

Melting into the soft brown earth.

    Memories and debris wash away.

  • Has THE Mouse become a rat?

I've been hearing a lot of brouhaha about Miley Cyrus posing for Vanity Fair.

Now, on the surface, it doesn't really look all that bad to me. But for those of you unfamiliar with her, Miley Cyrus is the white hot Disney commodity known as "Hannah Montana."

Now call me what you will ... but I find it VERY hard to imagine Disney was "shocked" and unaware of Ms. Cyrus' Vanity Fair photo shoot. In fact, I do wonder if THE Mouse gave a wink and a nod to it.
To back that up ... I came across another interesting bit of Mickey Mouse shenanigans. Seems Disney has been using rather youngish looking models to promote their underwear line ... with a bit of extra sass to them.

    Here's one shot:

Are any of you seeing "Winnie the Pooh" here?

The full story can be found here: "Disney's Dirty Little (Victoria's) Secret"

So what do you think? Is Disney deliberately marketing the sex appeal of their young starlets? If so, should they? Or, is the whole issue just a tempest in a teapot?

  • End of the World

I've always had a fascination with "End of the World" novels and movies.
I haven't seen the National Geographic show: Aftermath: Population Zero, but the website had some cool features.

How about you? Do you have any favorite End of the World movies or novels?

REM "End of the World as We Know It"

And ...if you're not offended by rather vulgar language and you have a high speed connection ... here's a pretty funny End of the World flash.

About Me

  • "What questions about God, his church and your faith are you asking today?" I love lay ministry work. I have a great compassion for dechurched Christians and delight in "thinking" Christians. I've been married 27 years, visited the North Pole via a submarine stop, but much prefer a HOT summer!

The CROP walk is coming up soon. It's an annual walk to raise food for the hungry. I enjoy being part of that every year. I also enjoy supporting Well of Grace Ministries - a local group who help women in crisis situations. There are others I respect and support, but I'd be curious to know ... What

I'm like Enrique on this one - I know it's spring when I can't stop sneezing. Though I do sneeze in the winter...Okay, I know it's spring when I can't stop sneezing outside. It's winter when it's bloody cold and I'm sneezing inside.
  • k8tthelate
I know it's really spring when the monarchs come back. they usually come back before the geese which surprises me, but I guess they travel slower.

    @sebravo - Ah .. Pollon ... the evil harbinger.
  • sebravo
When there is no more threat of frost, the flowers are blooming and you can open your windows to air out your house. But most importantly is when Enrique can't stop sneezing!
