Name: Brad and Natalie
Country: United States

Interests: Brad--a Colts and Reds fan, a student of apologetics, and a husband who loves his wife well. Natalie--a creative person, a counselor, and spark of Brad's life.
Expertise: Is anybody really an expert? We've done quite well at learning how to navigate our relationship to be a healthy, happy one. We love mentoring other young couples to enjoy the same type of relationship. We are experts at getting ourselves into tough situations so we can learn and grow into a more mature... and humble couple.

Stuff

Since our move to Charlotte:

Brad has two heavy classes this semester, and he's wondering if he'll survive.  This semester classes are Hermeneutics (which Brad says is the study of men named Herman--but is really the study of interpretation of the Bible) and also History of Modern Philosophy.  He's doing well at Select Comfort, and has finally settled into his own sales personality.  He really enjoys selling the beds, and he can do so because he believes in the product.  If you would like Brad to be your salesperson (he is very honest and non-pressuring), just call him at work at 704-979-1360.  We sure love our bed!

Natalie is still on the search for a counseling job.  She's kept busy with hospitality during the holidays, establishing the organization of the house, and has already dipped into painting--completing the downstairs 1/2 bath.  You would think a 1/2 bath wouldn't be much work, but with the cramped space, the 13 ft. ceilings, and little nooks and crannies, it was probably one of the toughest paint jobs she's ever tackled!  It's rewardingly beautiful, though.  She's about had it with the stay-at-home stuff and is ready to get back into counseling.

Gandalf has picked out his special room, which is the guest room, where he can sit in the window seat and study all that's going on out front.  We often find all his toys scattered in the window sill.  He will stay there for hours!  He is allowed to stay there until he barks obnoxiously at other neighborhood dogs, strangers or neighbors innocently passing by, or even bags flying in the wind that to him look like an animal prancing around and taunting him.  Then he has to take a "time out".

We think we might have found a church, after trying about 4 different churches over the past 2.5 months.  (www.foresthill.org)  We wanted a church who focuses on real heart issues and isn't just about how good God can make your life.  We also wanted a church that is both academically and personally challenging.  And finally, we were looking for a place where we could be ourselves.  I think we're finding those things so far at Forest Hill.  It's about a 25 minute drive, but that's about how far everything is in Charlotte.

We're getting settled, I think.  Now we're hoping to get more connected.  We appreciate your prayers for Brad's heavy load, Natalie's job, and developing some friendships.

Natalie studying right alongside Brad

Southern Evangelical Seminary/Church (Brad goes to SES) offers a two-year certificate program called the Institute for Biblical Studies.  The classes are taught by seminary professors and graduates.  I (Natalie) am taking two classes this semester: a study of Isaiah and Daniel, and a study of the Historicity of the Life of Christ (more of an apologetics course).  I'm excited because I have always wanted to be more biblically literate.  Brad's excited because he can talk with me about what I'm learning and we have a more common understanding of the Bible.  Now this program is for real.  I have required reading, even from commentaries and very academic writers.  I have only had one class thus far, but I really enjoyed them.  I think I will like the Isaiah/Daniel class the most, because those books are so mysterious.

SUPERBOWL--COLTS or BUST!

Brad, Gandalf, and I will be sporting Colts attaire Sunday and are watching the Superbowl with Brad's brothers and their families.  We will be celebrating with some good eats, like blue tortilla chips, natural turkey-in-a-blanket, and lots of other yummies.  How exciting!  We are a little concerned about the rainy forecast.  Natalie predicts the Colts will win by a field goal.

Did you ever check to see how much Superbowl tickets are?  I looked on Ebay the day after the Colts won the division, and the tickets ranged from $3K to $10K!  Then there were also hotel rooms up for grabs on Ebay and Travelocity, with crappy hotels in the $300's for one night.  Then plane tickets from Charlotte ranged in the $500's or more, even for same-day flights.  I can't imagine  how much it costs now!  So if you ever want to go to the Superbowl, you might plan on spending about $5-15K!

GO COLTS!

Highly Recommended

We highly recommend this book.  We're going through it as a couple's devotional.  The writer has extraordinary creativity in understanding what might have happened between the lines in the Bible, exploring background and culture to explain to the reader a unique possible view on events in the Gospels.
