Wasn't it pink? (for those of you who remember the complete pinkness haha).
So first semester of MIT is over and long gone with, IAP is over too (that was great fun).
Trivial info:
1) Applied for 3 summer internships, got rejected from all 3 already... haha, I believe the term is "declined for selective interview stage" or "you suck" lol.
2) I'm feeling no motivation to work whatsoever. Like I know I have soo many PSETS and exams coming up and I'm already 3 chapters behind for econ, but still, I can't bring myself to put in the full effort I'm used to doing. Bah, here comes a flunkie.
3) Coming home to Jersey for the weekend (Rutgers actually) so if anyone wants to hang out, drop me a line.
4) Yea, life is very mundane.

I really really really miss my friends back home. Like the constant support from you as we rush through clubs and complain about sucky teachers and how KHS is falling apart and stuff, that's really really good stuff. I realized yesterday as I was having like a whole mini nervous breakdown that at MIT, no one cares. Like all your friends are your friends and want to help you, but b/c MIT is so hectic, no one ever has time to. Few will come give you a hug or a shoulder to cry on or listen to your problems. And those of my friends who would, live like 30 minutes away on the other side of campus... I guess that THIS is the real world.

Thursday, June 29, 2006

I graduated! Yay. It's over. KHS is finally over. I will always cherish the memories as I look to the future.

I will post pics as soon as I get a good compilation.

LOL. I realized during the cap toss that I had lost my tassel. Yep. During the whole commencement, including the speech (no tassel in pics), I had no tassel and I didn't even know!! Ah... silly silly.

Happy Summer Vacation everyone!

Off to Yellowstone in 7 weeks...
Thursday, June 01, 2006

Oh My God. This is worst thing to happen in school for a while.
For spanish dramatization, we thought we'd be smart and kinda "dub" the tape by recording the dialogue first and then lip-synching to the camera. We were really proud of ourself cuz we did an awesome job.
THEN today, the teacher watches it and she comes up to Alice and I and she's like, I hope the rest of the tape isn't fake like this cuz your grades are going to suffer. It was suppose to be real.
Wtf... she never said NO DUBBING. We talked. It was a lot of work. Alice even blew up a pillow in the acting. Omg. If I get a 60 on this, I don't get exempt for the finals and that's just gonna suck cuz I really really thought I was gonna get an A at least on this.

Tomorrow morning Alice, Irene and Joana Bastos and I are going to go speak to the teacher in the morning. This is NOT right. duuuuuuuuuuuuuude.
Hope for luck.
Wednesday, May 31, 2006

On Monday, I went to the city with a bunch of Asians supposedly with "connections." It was sooo great. I bought soooo much crap with "connection discount." Shopped from Broadway to Canal St. to East Broadway and some side street from 10:30 in the morning to 7 at night oh my gosh did my feet hurt.

Reward:
18 Kt. White Gold Earrings (the stores don't carry pearls because they say it's not fashionable and my mommy told me not to get something big cuz I'll lose it in my sleep lol)
Birthday present for my mommy (it's shiny and pretty)
Black Dress and Black Semi-formal shirt
Two pairs of Pants
Moo-moo clock
Bunches of desserts and sweets and other food to take home
Yummies in my tummy from the restaurants

What I didn't get:
Accessories for Prom (looking for those was the primary reason of my trip, but oh well.)

What is NOT cool:
My credit card bill this month will be sick.
Yea... at least I'm working a lot more now so my paycheck will be slightly bigger.

Me boss mad at me cuz I told her I could work Thursdays and Fridays from now on, but this Friday is prom (not working) and next Thurs is SGA trip to Six Flags (not working) and then the Friday after that is Graduation (def. not working). And since I'm prob. not gonna sleep at all during Proj. Graduation Friday night I wanted to switch that Saturday with someone, but if I ask, I'll probably get fired. Lol.
Saturday, May 20, 2006

Yep it's started. The need to defend my school.

So I was at the bank and this lady and I are talking and somehow the conversation turns to where I'm going next year and I reply, "MIT"
to which she asks, "Where's that?"
I say (prepared after going thru it sooo many times in the halls of KHS), "In Massachusetts."

But here's the real kicker. Then she goes:
"Oh hey! I'm from there! Lived in Boston for years! You'll love it there."

... Right.

And for those of you who were in Spanish the other day and heard the "rumor," NO. MIT is NOT in Pennsylvania. And it is NOT in Michigan either.
And no, it is NOT the Missouri Institute for Tiger-Training.

Gr.
Monday, May 15, 2006

Today was the AP Senior trip to NYC. It was really cold and POURED and I didn't have my umbrella. Not many of us did. It was quite miserable. A group went on the Brooklyn Bridge (that was when the rain turned into H20 bullets and pounded. Nick said he couldn't see. Others said the wind was so strong it was difficult to walk straight. No one used an umbrella on the bridge because it was futile). The other half (including me) went directly to South Seaport Shopping Center. (No good stores. Not the best shopping experience) But!!! this is so cool:

There was this little store on the second floor called the Threading Shop and the little Indian woman was like, hey you! You need your eyebrows fixed! So I was like um, that's kinda true. I've heard a lot about threading. Hey why not. She said she can even remove the ingrown ones that were just coming in. It was really weird. She takes this looong piece of string and she's twisting it and then pulls it back and forth on my skin. It doesn't hurt hurt, but it pinches and if she's removing a new line, you'll feel it and you'll also hear it (ouch). So yea, it took less than 10 minutes. She reshaped my eyebrows but couldn't remove all the black plugs. She says to wait and pluck em later.

My right eyebrow looks really nice. The left one is demented cuz it never really had a good arch (or maybe too good an arch) and now it just looks like I'm perpetually perplexed. Oh well. It was a fun experience.

Cost: $10
Saturday, May 06, 2006

Lol. This story has a moral to it.

On Good Friday I got my ears pierced with a piercing gun in Chinatown. No idea who the guy was or whether he used sterile practices, but one of my mom's best friend's brought me there (she had three pairs pierced there) so I didn't want to offend anyone.

Anyway, it was honky-dory. My ears throbbed for about an hour but within three days the swelling went down and it was just sore when I touched it. *Note: I had been cleaning my ears three times a day with rubbing alcohol.

Rubbing alcohol is very drying, and within the first week, I noticed my earlobes were PEELING. My nose peels, my cheeks peel... never have I seen my earlobes do that. So smart me decides to cut down the alcohol to every other day (after I wash my hair) but continue rinsing out my ears every night. Then last week I slacked off and didn't use the alcohol at all.

Last night was the 3 week mark. I figure, hey, close enough to 4-6 weeks. Lemme take 'em out and clean my ears and the earring and put them back in:
Left ear was somewhat bloody (surprising)
Right ear was stuck to earring and had a giant ball of pus all over the place (including all over backing, really difficult to clean out) when I finally yanked the earring off.
It was quite gross cuz my ear started bleeding and the hole looked huuuge. The funny thing is it didn't feel like anything was wrong. But it definitely LOOKED like an infection. The back of my ear was gross, the skin was inflamed discolored and yea, not gonna describe in detail. And it was very difficult to reinsert the earring.

Moral of story: Even if your ears become chapped, keep applying the antiseptic or risk a pus-filled ear.
Moral 2: Even if your mom says not to touch the earring until 4-6 weeks, sometimes it's good to remove it early just to check for ... stuff.
Moral 3: Don't follow moral 2 if my right ear falls off because I removed my earrings early. Lol.
Friday, April 28, 2006

Got this quiz from TheLostOne. I've decided where I'm going next year. Just hope it is the right decision. *Crosses fingers* *Seals response envelopes*

Even though the coin toss came up for Harvard 16/16 times (yes, I had Heads be Harvard for the first 10, then I got angry and switched to Tails for Harvard... It still defies probability IMO but w/e). Even though my counselors, parents and family friends recommend Harvard. Even though sooo many people say I'll be a super crummy engineer and won't buy anything I design. Even though people tell me I'll make a better economist or financial anything. Even though Harvard is HARVARD--THE HARVARD.

I'll be at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology come September.

P.S. More confused than ever (esp. since my parents swear I'll make a crummy engineer).

So I was researching the two schools and this is something interesting:
http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=512919

This esp. caught my eye.
"Perhaps, however, you are considering other schools, such as the
technical school down the street or the community college in New Haven.
Stop. Right now. Imagine walking, alone, with your head down. Imagine
crying yourself to sleep each night. Now realize that a technical
school is not for you. Further, imagine walking off campus and being
mugged. New Haven is not right for you, either."

Ok. Totally uncalled for. Arrogant bastards. MIT-ers only diss Caltech-ers like that. Harvard only gets to diss Yale like that... why they picking on the nerds as well?

Um yea, decision due May 1. Still undecided. If I go to Harvard, it'll be under economics. MIT-- electrical engineering obviously. My question to you:
Do you see me as an engineer at IBM or as an economist on Wall Street?
