What I got in the mail...

+

=

and...

I am now officially ready for summer...

Saturday, March 31, 2007

You wake up at Seatac, SFO, LAX. You wake up at O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, BWI. Pacific, mountain, central. Lose an hour, gain an hour. This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time. You wake up at Air Harbor International. If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person?

"Help me.  Help me... Where am I?"

"You're in a hospital"

I spent an hour and a half in rehab.

In a rehab facility, rather.

Do you know what it feels like to be locked in the geriatrics section of a mental institute for an hour and a half to hang a picture frame?

I do...

"Help!  Help! Help me dammit!  Isn't there anyone here I can talk to?  Where am I?  Where am I going?  What am I gonna do? where's my shoes?  Where's my money?"

"Sir, do you remember when your son came by this morning?"

"My son didn't come by this morning, where's my pants?"

"Sir, we're trying to help you with your memory, that's why you're here."

I have to believe in a world outside my own mind. I have to believe that my actions still have meaning, even if I can't remember them. I have to believe that when my eyes are closed, the world's still there. Do I believe the world's still there? Is it still out there?... Yeah. We all need mirrors to remind ourselves who we are. I'm no different.

"Here, let me put this lipstick on you... there... lick your lips now.  Doesn't that look beautiful?"

that's not lipstick...

"Yes, she looks wonderful."

that's medicine

"Now lick your lips.  That's nice."

Maybe you can't understand what's happened. Can't say I really understand, either. Backwards amnesia. That's what the sign says. CRS disease. Your guess is as good as mine.
Maybe you can't understand what happened to you...

"Help, where am I?"

"Sir, you're in a hospital"

"where's my pants?"

...you're a cripple. A corpse. And as for the passage of time, well, that doesn't really apply to you anymore, does it? Just the same ten minutes, over and over again.

"Hey Jen, what ever hap-"

"We had to call the cops"

"He's just sort of lashing out.  He's really freaking out."

And yes... the doors were locked.

"Help! Help!  Where am I?"

"Sir, you're in a hospital."

I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place.
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space

"Help... please?"

Wha??

Round 6

I'm on neg

2nd place speaker...

With 11 speaker points... yeah.

Attempt to vote double loss crossed out and aff box checked.

"The aff case lacked structure and clarity.  It was not easy to follow and lacked clarity of the stock issues.  Through the entire debate the aff tried to develope a very weak case but did not clarify it at all.

"The neg used very little evidence and tried to reason their way through the round with faulty and weak arguments.  The 2A made the best effort at trying to build up a weak case.  You made the best effort keep trying.

"Both teams-- you would both do well to learn about debate theory.  You would both do well to spend a significant ammount of time practice debating before coming to tournaments.

"I applaud the aff for having blue blue books and trying to use evidence but incorrectly.  You might consider rewriting your case with more simplicity but clarify your goals, advantages.

"neg-- you had some understanding of NATO and WWII history but lacked the experience to argue effectivelly with evidence.  Aquiring evidence books and writing negative briefs may be beneficial.

"Neither team warranted a win in this round.  Lastly, both teams might think about presenting yourself in a more proffessional manner."

Thats all... nuff said.
