My favorite things!

A few of my favorite things:

1.  Footnotes

"I use the world constituency here even though this has nothing to do with politics.  I used this word because I wanted to illustrate to the reader that he is responsible to the group of people that listen to him on the radio and if he does things that they do not agree with he will either get told to change his personality on air by his boss or he will not be allowed on air anymore."

2.  Demagogues

Example:  Margaret Sanger

"In Margaret Sanger’s speech in 1921 she explains that women should have the choice to use birth control.  She polarizes the two sides of the argument submitting the argument that there are three groups of people two of which are moral and the other is immoral.  The first and second groups are “intelligent and wealthy members of the upper classes who have obtained knowledge of Birth Control and exercise it in regulating the size of their families.” And “equally intelligent and responsible [to the first group].   …but are unable to obtain knowledge or to put such available knowledge into practice.” respectively.   Whereas the third group is “irresponsible and reckless ones having little regard for the consequence of their acts,…”   She continues to polarize the in group and out group by describing the later as “diseased, feeble-minded, and are [sic] of the pauper element dependent entirely upon the normal and fit members of society for their support”.  Sanger’s supporters, the moral group that wants to bring children into the world when they see fit, are the in-groups whereas her opposition, the immoral group that does not want to control their population, is the out-group. Why, you ask?  Because demagogues are just plain cool.

The question of the season is:  Do I want to continue the holiday tradition or pass it on?

I just realized last night that it was about 3 days until Christmas/the start of Chanukah.  I usually notice it...the holiday spirit, the bell ringers in front of target, or the Christmas lights on the houses.  This year, however, I didn't realize we were so close to Christmas until yesterday.  I think it was because I was cooped up the last couple weeks studying for finals (which paid off).

With that note in mind:  I love the holidays.  Hanamas is at my house this year.  But nene isn't going to be there...her and the hubby +baby are going to the in-laws.  Wierd.  I'm not a little kid anymore.

Part of the thesis for my paper thats due today.

There were many factors that contributed to the fall of communism:  A crisis of legitimacy for the Communist system, economic factors, society, reform from above, and western pressures.  All of these factors were interwoven in a web that created the climate that allowed the Communist system to fall and people to gain their freedom from a system that did not accomplish that which it set out to do.

I've got another one thats due on wed.  I'll post that thesis later tonight.
