Man, I almost caught a wild rabbit today on campus.  I've tried to catch a squirrel before but they always end up a tree.   But this rabbit didnt' seem too fast, and there werent' much trees around, so I gave it a chase.  Not too bad, I was even with it, and just as I was about to dive, it hopped under something, so that was that.  But wow, I thought that was pretty cool.

Here's one sign I know I"m a grad student:

well, a couple...

1.  I haven't missed class yet this quarter.  At Stanford, I barely went to 75% of my classes.  I'm serious about learning I guess.

2.  I get up around 7:00 and am pretty much always at school by 9:00 at the latest.  I got a no credit in social dance at Stanford just because after a while I stopped going cause it was at 9:00 in the morning.

Things have changed...

Alright, time for a real entry.

So first of all, have you ever heard of this?  Today is "dead week" of classes, but as we Stanford people know, that still means you go to class.  So this is dead week, Stanford Style.  And today was "technically" the last day of one of my classes.  But as the class was wrapping up, my teacher, instead of busting out the evaluation forms, busted out a new topic.  It's a small class, like 12 people, but we were like, umm... what's he doing?  And so when class ended, he was like, alright, next week, we'll continue.  And then, the class was like, um professor, this is the last day.

And literally, I swear, the professor went, in a soprano voice, was like, "What???  That's bullshit.  That's bullshit."  Umm dude, you've been teaching here like 10 years, and you still don't know the class schedule?????  And then he went on, "What???? They must have took off a week.  This quarter is a lot shorter than usual."  Ummmm dude, in fact, they've added an extra week, and this is the longest quarter of all three.  And then he proceeded to say, "What??? We did start late, so yeah, that must have been it.  I did miss a week."  Ummm dude, you did miss a week, but we only had class once that week,  instead of three times, so yeah, you only missed one class, not like the three you seem to be implying....  And then finally, he proceeded to say, "Alright, you know what?  Would you rather have a final or just come to class next week (at regular schedule)?"  Ummmm dude, what???  No final????  And we didn't even have a midterm.  And every homework I've turned in, I've never got back, which is good, cause essentially I've only solved 75% of each homework.  I never got an answer once since the middle of the term because his teaching style is so ridiculous.  But also too, does he not realize that next week is finals and so is a different schedule???  So I'm going to suppoused to go to class at "regular time", but what if there's a final???  Which I happen to have.  This guy honestly sucks.  I looked him up on ratemyprofessor.com, and literally it says, "This guy is a bastard."  I just thought that was a joke.  But wow, ok, maybe he's not a bastard, but he definitely isn't a good teacher.

So yup, it's finals week.  Lots of stuff that's going on, so it'll be crazy.  Just gotta try my best though.  But man, this weekend's going to be so busy.  And I really wanted to watch the USC-UCLA game this weekend.  And oh yeah, you know what's been fun to watch, I guess since their gearing up for the Olympic Games (January or Feb. 2006!), is Ice Skating.  iv'e been watching a lot of ice skating lately.  And ice dancing.  And it's not too bad.  And no, I'm not gay.  But it's not too bad.  Michelle Kwan though is alright.  Sasha Cohen looks good, and they got some Russians and Japanese that look good too.

Got a haircut last weekend.  It suxs!!!  Now a cap is permanently attached to my head until I shower or sleep for at least another week.  Ugh.  What a bad crap piece of work.

Oh yeah, thanksgiving was fun too.  Helped out at a homeless shelter, talked to this Russian guy for 2 hours... the crazy part was it turned out he graduated from UC-Davis with a masters in literature, but now here he was.  So humanities majors, watch out!  Nah, nah, but it seems he was traveling, and so to keep costs down, would eat at this outreaches.  Well, that's the story I got.  Cause I've been places and read about them, and he seemed to know quite a bit about all these places he said he traveled to, so I don't think he was lying.  But it was pretty interesting.  it put thanksgiving in a unique perspective.

And also that weekend, I got to play flamingo football with the church.  Esssentially, it's girls versus guys, but the way they handicap the guys is they play on one leg, aka flamingo.  And wow, that was so much fun.  And those girls can hit.  This one girl was pretty much the MVP.  I would liken her a lot to Jerome Bettis, "The Bus", in fact, I almost called her, "The Bus", but I wasn't sure how she would take that, like did that mean people rode her frequently, or that she was fat, or that she was cheap.... too much problems with that.  But literally, she ran over people instead of trying to outrun you.  So on one leg, she was not easy to tackle.  Many boys just got plowed by her.  I always went for the legs though... but man, I was amazed at some of their athleticism.  I got two sacks though.  I'm a wily one.  But in the end, we lost 14-0.  They were quite good.

So yup, thanksgiivng weekend was great, didn't do any homework though, and now I'm paying for it.  So yup, got to do a report on Hyogo Prefecture, and then just lots of structural engineering studying.  But yeah, it's been an adventure studying here.  I should've stayed with private schools, where students dont' have to worry about classes, we get lots of attention, there are programs that meet our needs, the teacher to class size is small and therefore relationships are better, and where there is a life of privellege.  I should have stayed with elitist private schools.  Huh huh huh (meant to be said in a French snort)...

hahaha, I kid.  Public schools have their share of goods and bads, but it's defintiely been a unique expereince.  It's nice to see the other side of the fence.
