  • If only I had a picture

Last night we went and watched some fireworks with friends.   That was a good time.   We played kamikaze pictionary, ate some good food, kept several kids out of the ER from walking into swings (the hardest task of the evening by any stretch. One little girl got clonked pretty good first)   Then we watched the fireworks show.  My friends live just behind the big field where they shoot off the fireworks, so we could sit in their front yard and driveway to watch and not bother with all the crowds.  It was awesome.

There was a flyover of some F-14 jets early in the evening.  I love that.  I love the power and the beauty of those planes flying in formation as they streak across the sky.  It is beautiful!  Right before the fireworks there was a smallish plane sort of hanging around near where the fireworks would be.  I kept thinking "That plane needs to get moving or it is going to get hit with a firework."   What I didn't know was that the little plane was PART of the show!   It didn't take long and I saw a trail of sparks.  I assumed the plane had dropped something that was going to burn as it dropped.  Nope.  It was a parachuter.  Then there were two more.  These three people all had some sort of sparkling streaming stuff attached to them.  I hope it was their feet, but I couldn't tell.  It was dark outside.  They criss crossed and wove their way across the sky.  It was so cool to watch them decend.  They landed right at the park where all the people were sitting. When the last one got to the ground.. then BOOM!  Fireworks.  It was a great show.  It was set to music on one of the radio stations.  One of the songs was about families that are here while loved ones are in the military serving overseas.  It was a touching song, but what I liked best is that when someone in the song would say "I love you and I miss you"   a firework exploded that was in the shape of red hearts.  Some were hearts within hearts.  WOW!!!  I was impressed.

I love to celebrate.  It helps you to remember the major events that happened that are cause for a celebration.  What a blessing to live in a country that has so many freedoms.  I hope that for years and years to come, we will be able to celebrate the independance of the United States of America!

    • They are going with another person for that job.  Likely someone that speaks English AND Spanish.
    • God has a plan and I'm sure it is a good one.
    • My girls sorted all the laundry in my house this morning.
    • I got to see a neice and her hubby last night at dinner.  That was fun!
    • They are in town from Dallas.

  • I have an interview

I got a call last night for a job interview today!  I was a bit surprised at the call, but I'll take it.  It is for a kindergarten job at a school I've subbed for some.  It is today at 2pm.  Initially, I was excited.  Then... well...   I haven't had a job interview for a professional job for at least 13 years.  I think I may be a bit out of practice.  I hope I can find suitable clothes to wear.  I'm sort of heavy on the mom style of clothing and not so much on the professional style.  Whatever I wear, I've decided I must iron.  If nothing else, I can have wrinkle free clothes.  So besides a current copy of my resume and copies of letters of reference, what do you bring with you to an interview?  I'll take some tips if you've got them to offer.  Prayers would be great too.

    Have a happy day!

  • Physical Fitness

This morning I got up pretty early and went to a track with a few people and did what is called surge training.  It works like this.  For two minutes you walk or warm up or whatever.  Then 20 seconds of full steam whatever (running, walking, jogging, jumping jacks... whatever you want)  then 20 seconds of rest.  You do three rotations of the 20 seconds on and off.  Then two minutes of slow walking.   Three times... so by the time you are done, you've walked for 6 minutes, ran for 3 minutes and rested for 3 minutes.   My face was red, but I did way better than I thought I would.  YAY!!!

There is something holy about moving. I don't mean this to sound like I'm on a soapbox, because I'm not.  God gave me a body and it is my job to take care of it.  I can choose to sit around and watch tv and eat ice cream or I can choose to eat veggies and run around a track sometimes.   If I choose to run a little, chances are I might live longer therefore I'd be able to do God's work here a little longer.  SWEET!!!   As an added bonus, I don't have to spend a ton of money on clothes all the time since I pretty much stay in the same size range.

This morning as I was running and walking I was also praying.  I got to see the sun come up, and for brief times depending on my location on the track, it was right in my eyes.  I got to hear the birds singing.  I got to feel the gnats swarming.  (I'm sure the frogs are glad God created them)   I got to move around in the body God gave me and feel how it all works together.  I got to see other people move around too.  I was one of maybe two or three that was able to run.  Some of the folks there struggled to walk, but they were moving and thanking God that they could move.  I'm here to tell you that was a blessing.

I am doing my best to teach my children about being good stewards (or servants) of the things God gives to us.  I think most of us consider money when we talk about being good stewards.  I believe that carries across to things like time and body and stuff and money.  I can choose to use those things wisely or waste them.  In our house we are making an intentional effort to make good choices about food, time, money and our bodies.  We use the word "healthy" a lot.  We don't use words like, diet or excercise.  Instead we say we want to be healthy and maintain the beautiful and wonderful thing God gave to us called a body.  Our girls are starting to get that.  A healthy choice is an apple and a bike ride.  Sometimes, we have an apple and a board game.  We are striving for healthy lifestyle.

I like the peace and solitude of getting out early in the morning and running or walking and spending a little time with God.  I think everyone should do that.  Give it a try and see  if you don't feel better.  Even short walks or pulling weeds too will be a more healthy choice than 2 hours of a reality TV show.

    Have a happy day!

  • Monday........ again

Happy Monday everyone.   Hubby's birthday dinner the other night was fun and yummy.  The food was good and the company was good.  The fancy desserts turned out ok, but not great.  The melty chocolate had the wrong texture.  Oh well I tried.  It still tasted good, so I'm going to count that.

Today, I'm helping little sister with her cookbook project.  I'm typing out some recipes she has found or made up.  It is no where near done though.  We are just still working on it.  I thought I'd get some typing done so it wouldn't be overwhelming later.

Hubby is off today.  Maybe we will go on a family adventure.  Who knows.

I heard a new word recently.  It cracks me up!   I get to hear it on a regular basis too.  Here it is.... disgustavul.  I'll use it in a sentance for you.    "Ewww this leftover gravy looks disgustavul."   or.....  "That kid has a disgustavul habit of eating boogers".   I asked the original speaker of this word if "disgusting" is what was meant.  She said, no, disgustavul is a much stronger revulsion than disgusting.  Cool.  A new word for nasty things.

I have a very very itchy thumb.  It is about to send me over the edge.  What is over the edge anyway?  Do I want to go there?  Do they have a ferris wheel over the edge?  I want my thumb to quit itching.  I'm going to wind up with no skin if I keep itching it.  bleh!!  That would be totally disgustavul.

    Have a happy day!
