| Trial Up-dateI know that a lot of you are concerned with the trial for my sister's
murderer that has been underway since November 2007. Last week it at
last came to an end. Although the jury had already given their verdict
in December (guilty of first degree murder) the sentencing was unable
to occur since Tony's public defendent was taking issue with a minor
concern about a juror. He wanted to have a re-trial and we were very
concerned what that would mean for all of us involved. The whole
process has been strung out for so long. Each time a new date was set
there was some new delay and they were unable to move on. Finally on
Friday the issue with the juror was cleared up, deemed to not be
grounds upon which to conduct a re-trial, and Tony was sentenced to 25
years to life. At last there can be some closure for our family about
this. It has been a long, hard process, and I'm glad I was finally
over. I am also glad that I was able to be there during my spring break
and see it for myself. I felt so tense with so many conflicting
emotions while it was happening, but I am starting to feel some peace.
Thank you for all of your prayers and your support. It means a lot to
me and my parents and Shiloh.
I have been extremely busy and still am so I will only give a brief
up-date on myself. I am back at Biola, having had my spring break last
week. It was good but busy. My parents bought a house so we are moving.
I had a lot of homework to do, a bridal shower to attend/throw, and a
boyfriend to see, plus lots of other things. It wasn't very restful,
but a good change of pace. Matt and his friend Will drove me back down
here on Sunday and stayed in Hollywood. I went to my classes and then
spent the afternoons and evenings with them. I have been unable to get
any work done, but it was wonderful. We had so much fun and I don't
want to go back to my crazy life of endless work here. What is scary is
that all of this will be over in two months. Only two months; and so
much left to do. I am graduating in May and while I feel ready to be
finished with Biola I am also not ready in a lot of ways. It is hard
trying to plan for a job and everything in the summer while having an
insane amount of work to focus on here. Somehow I will survive and get
everything done.
If you read this I would love to hear from you and just know that
people are seeing this. I know it takes time, heck, I am horrible at
it, but it would mean a lot to me. Thanks.

I don’t believe as many people read xanga as devotedly as
they used to, but I know some people still like to read posts in order to stay
current with their friends’ lives.
It has been a while since I have written. The summer flew by in a whirl without enough
time to do everything I wanted to. Thankfully I got to spend a lot of time with
my dearest boyfriend. It seems ages since I have been at home.
I left a week and a half before I moved into Oxford in order to travel
with my parents and Melinda, who was able to stay for a week. We went to Edinburgh, an amazingly beautiful city, and the Lake
District in England, then York, and finally London
for almost a week. It was amazing to be in the United Kingdom, where I have
desired my whole life to be. In fact, it is really a dream come true to be
living and studying here.
Here at Oxford
I am living in a manor house on the third story with two friends from Biola,
Andrea and Marisa, who were also accepted to the program. We live pretty close
to the city centre, which is good since I walk everywhere. I have been
attending a beautiful, old Anglican church on Sunday mornings, and the
experience is one of the highlights of being here. For the first four weeks we
had a special orientation and course specifically for the study abroad
students. Oxford’s
term does not begin until this Monday, but in order to have enough units to
compensate for missing a semester in the state, the study abroad students take
extra classes before, and throughout, the term. We watched a video series about
the history of Britain
and had two lectures every day, as well as a seminar class and weekly field
trips. After the first week the really hard work began because we had three
papers to write, all of them eight pages long on A4 paper.
Thankfully we had a break at the end of the four weeks and
midway into this week before the full term begins. I took the opportunity to
travel to the beautiful country of Ireland
for four nights and then to Glasgow,
Scotland for
two days. It was a really wonderful experience.
Since coming back I have begun studying for my two tutorials,
the primary one being critical theory and the secondary one being Victorian
literature. There is a ton of reading to do and I have two papers due this
week.
So, that’s my life since you last heard for me. God has
richly blessed me with the opportunity to be here, and I am trying to use every
minute of it to the fullest.

| Well, I guess I owe all of you a new post. I have been back from Europe
for three weeks now. I can't believe the time has gone by so quickly.
Being in Europe for three weeks was cool but I was very happy to come
home. I really missed my boyfriend, and it became challenging being
with my parents all the time. We saw some amazing things. Some of the
highlights for me were going to Istanbul, where I got to visit a church
and a mosque. Both were beautiful. We also saw an underground, Roman
cistern and the old Turkish palace. Oh yes, we also went to the Grand
Bazaar. I have never been so hounded by sellers before. It was an
experience I do not wish to repeat.
I also loved St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. It was beautiful. One
of the highlights was that Michelangelo's Pieta is displayed there. It
depicts Mary holding Jesus after he was taken off the cross. It is such
a moving piece of artwork. I approached with reverence and awe and
praise. I couldn't help but lift my thoughts up to God.
Lake Garda, in the Italian Alps, was also a highlight. It is a
beautiful lake with a number of medieval castles on the surrounding
bank. It was a very relaxing part of the trip. We were able to just
enjoy the beauty around us. I also really liked the very modern hotel
we stayed in. The rooms were wonderfully simple and unadorned. My bed
was very close to the ground. It was lovely.
I also got to go to Siena. It is a medieval city in Italy where the
Italian horse Polo has been taking place twice a year for eight hundred
years or so. I read about the race years ago and thought it sounded
amazing. It feels like stepping back in time. We were lucky enough to
be there a few days before the race so that we were able to see what it
looks like on race day. The race takes place in the city square, so
they put sand around as a track, and fence off the middle section for
spectators.
I must also mention that Athens was wonderful. I love that city.
Since coming back I have been working teaching Martial Arts classes,
preparing for my up-coming semester in Oxford, and spending lots of
time with my boyfriend. The time is flying by much too quickly.

| Hi Everyone! Just a quick hello from the mediterranean ocean. I am travelling from Ismir, Turkey to Istanbul, Turkey. I have already seen Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento, and Capri in Italy, and Rhodes in Greece. I am enjoying my time. I am looking forward to seeing Istanbul for the first time tomorrow. The internet on this cruise ship costs an insane amount, so I have got to go. Just wanted to say hi to all of you. ~Crescent | | |
| It has been almost exactly three months since I made an entry on here,
so finally, even though I still don't really have any extra time, I am
going to make a new one. I think everyone must be pretty busy since it
seems like no one is on xanga any more.
In the last three months I have returned to Biola for the second
semester of my junior year and started living a schedule consisting of
homework non-stop, four hours of sleep a night, and almost no time to
hang out with friends. This is, officially, the craziest semester of my
career at Biola. In the last three months I have also had my spring
break, which I went home for, and which I just returned from. I thought
that I would make a new post over the break, but even that proved to be
too busy. No matter where I am I always have more things to do than
time to do them in.
A couple of really cool things have happened besides school in the last
three months. First, I wrote an interview article with hardcore band As
Cities Burn and it was published in HM magazine in their March/April
issue! This is the first official money that I have earned by writing.
Second, I was accepted to study abroad in Oxford next semester, so I
will be living in Oxford and studying there for four months! Third, I
won second place in the LA Indoor Archery Championships with my
compound bow that I started shooting just this semester. And
fourth is definitely the best thing that has happened in the last three
months: I have a wonderful and amazing boyfriend named Matt
Evpak.
We just celebrated our three month anniversary, and it has
been three of the best months of my life, despite all the
craziness with school that has happened at the same time.
Also this semester I have joined a ministry on campus called Brown Bag.
A bunch of Biola students donate a meal from their meal plan, and Brown
Bag makes all of these meals into sack lunches that we take down to
Long Beach to give to the homeless people. There is a large homeless
population in Long Beach, and we give out the food in the parking lot
of a church, and then we go to a cheap hotel where homeless people can
afford to live for a couple of weeks sometimes and give out the rest of
the lunches there. When the homeless people come we encourage them to
stay and we talk with them. I have had really good and really
interesting conversations with these people every week. It is amazing
to hear their stories and to learn more about what life is like for a
homeless person. I have had the privilege of praying with many of them.
It has been a really good experience for me to be part of Brown Bag
this semester.
Well, there is a whole lot more that I could say, but I hope that gives
you an idea of what I have been doing the last three months. Now I must
return to my huge amount of homework so that I can get some sleep
tonight.
