Numbers and a phrase46... The number of undergrads who signed up as interested in the speech team today (beyond the 10 returnees we have on the team already). Not gonna lie that this number freaks me out a little. 29...The number of people who came to the kick-off BBQ for Miami Christian Grads tonight!! (28 signed up for the listerv besides the 4 of us coordinating everything). This number excites me!! So tonight I gave the welcome/vision for the group that we are starting (technically reviving I guess) called Miami Christian Grads. While preparing my thoughts I targeted "academic-minded people" who would be facing philosophical questions over the next year. However, like I teach in my COM 135 class, I should have considered my literal audience which consisted of Sports Org grads, College Student Personnel, Speech Pathology, etc (much less philosophically focused programs)... So when I quite seriously stated: "grad school causes you to ask questions like whether God is a Foucault-like panopticon social construct.........." THEY ALL LAUGHED. OUTLOUD. I told them they would know what that meant after their first year of grad school. Unfortunately (or fortunately....depending how you look at it), the probably won't. Don't think they cover that in Sports Org. EDIT: After recounting names it was 56 who signed up in addition to the 10 on the team....so yeah, 66 total. yikes. |
