Chapter twenty: Part TwoSorry for the long wait once again! This week is finals so that might mean more chapters in less time! Sorry for any mistakes! Enjoy! -Nicole <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> “Who wants ice cream?” Joe mimicked, watching me as I giggled. “Ice cream and Starbucks, that’s all that boy ever thinks about.” Joe said sounding almost like he was the older brother. “Actually Joe, I think that’s the only thing you ever think about… minus the Starbucks.” I laughed. He smiled and we continued walking. “Hey, but ice cream’s a lot better than Starbucks so you can’t blame me for having it on my mind all the time.” He laughed. “So you want to tell me why were walking?” I finally asked when we’d made it to the sand. “Right, I was getting there.” He said, looking down at the ground before back up at me. I had a slight feeling of nervousness, but I brushed the thought away. “There’s another thing on my mind all the time too.” He said. He looked into my eyes and just that was enough to make me weak. I looked down and then back up at him. “What could that be?” I asked him with a smile on my face. “Well, there’s this girl and her name starts with a C and I’m going to miss her on this next tour.” He said with a soft smile across his face. “I think she’s going to miss you too.” I whispered. We stopped and sat down, watching as the cool water brushed up against our feet. “That’s good because I have something for her… something that always makes me think of her.” He pulled something out of his back pocket. “It might be weird, but your name means melody… or to fall, but we just won’t go there… it’s fitting for you though.” He laughed, talking so fast I couldn’t help not to laugh. “Way to ruin the moment there Joe, with your falling comment.” I said, still laughing. “You would know too because you’re the one I fell on top of.” “Twice!” He added. He opened up the box and inside was a beautiful silver chained bracelet with a few small, silver charms dangling off of it, a heart, a sun, a rose, a musical note, and a star. “Joe… it’s beautiful!” I smiled, holding my wrist out so that he could fasten it on. I leaned in and kissed him sending a shiver up my spine, as I pulled away he wrapped his arm around my waist as we watched the waves. “We should get back, I’m sure Kevin is dying in there waiting for his ice cream.” I laughed. “Yeah” He said, almost in a disappointed tone. “Joe, is everything okay?” I asked. “Oh Yeah! I’m fine!” he smiled, grabbing my hand as we ran through the sand back to the café. I laughed as he dragged me along. “Ice Cream time?” Kevin asked as soon as Joe and I walked through the door. “Yeah Kev, Let’s go!” Tory said enthusiastically. Kevin stood up and practically ran out the door. “What am I even doing hanging out with you teenagers?” Kevin asked himself. “We don’t know Kevin” Abby answered. Kevin laughed as we walked along the boardwalk together for the last time until their tour is over. For the next half a year there won’t be anymore weird looks directed toward us as we made fools of ourselves in a long line on the board walk. “You’re just using us for Ice Cream Kev.” Nick laughed. Everyone stared at him not finding it as funny he did. “What? ... I thought it was a good one.” Nick said, pulling himself together and taking Tory’s hand as we continued walking to find the Pinkberry down the board walk. “Excuse me Nick, but I believe it’s called a bien uno… not a good one.” I said correcting him, in a sarcastic tone remembering the time when Tory said something funny and instead of saying “Good one” I showed off my Spanish 2 skills and said bien uno. “Oh, my bad” He said sarcastically back at me. “Hi everyone, I’m Jackie and I’ll be your server. What can I get you all tonight?” Jackie asked after we’d all been seated in a booth at Pinkberry. She had a slim figure and her reddish brown hair pulled up into a pony-tail. She was wearing a pair of tan Bermuda shorts and her uniformed pinkberry T-shirt. “You guys order, I’ll go last.” Joe said holding the menu up way to close to his face. We all laughed shaking our heads. “I guess I’ll go first then. I’ll have the original with chocolate chips and strawberries.” I said putting the menu down and starting a pile for them. “Okay” She smiled. “What can I get you?” She asked, biting her lip and smiling at Kevin. “I’ll get the coffee with chocolate chips.” He said, blushing and handing his menu forward. Nick ordered shaved ice and Tory and Abby got originals with cookies and cream for a topping. Joe got the original with fruity pebbles. “Hey, do any of you guys know where I can get one of those awesome shirts?” Joe said pointing excitedly to Jackie’s uniform. Everyone laughed. “Joe you really are in love with this place.” Nick laughed. “Almost like Kevin and Starbucks… scary” Nick added. “Soon I’ll be able to smell Pinkberry from 250,000 miles away!” Joe said excitedly. “Uhh, don’t mean to bring you down, but I don’t think that’s possible, I mean I can’t even do that.” Kevin said, trying really hard not to laugh. By now everyone was bursting out into laughter, we were so into the conversation that nobody noticed Jackie standing there with our ice cream. “What! Then I’ll never be anything … oh, sorry” Joe said, stopping mid-sentence noticing Jackie there watching us. Everyone stopped laughing, ready to get their ice cream. “How much of that conversation did you catch?” Kevin asked Jackie. “Well, I now know that it’s not possible to smell Starbucks from 250,000 miles away… that’s too bad because I was pretty sure I was getting close.” She laughed, about to walk away. “Wait! You like Starbucks too?” Kevin asked excitedly. “Who doesn’t love Starbucks?” She asked, walking away. “Wow Kev, aren’t you two a match made in heaven?” Abby asked sarcastically. “She likes Starbucks!” Kevin shouted. “We Know!” We all shouted back. “I think Kevin’s got himself a little crush.” Joe said, eyeing him suspiciously. “No guys! Stop it! I think she’s cute, but…” He started being cut off by Jackie coming back to check on us. “You think who’s cute?” She asked. “I think that uhh… our new puppy is cute!” Kevin shouted. “Nice cover” Joe said nudging him. “Well, here’s the check. Have a great day guys! Maybe I’ll see you around?” She said, plopping the check down on the table and turning away for the last time. “Jackie!” Kevin shouted once she had turned around. “mhm” she said, stopping dead in her tracks. “Do you want to come to bumper cars with us when your shift ends?” He asked her, looking around at all of us to make sure it was okay too. We all nodded our heads and he looked back at her. “Shift ends in five, so I’ll meet you guys out front?” She asked excitedly. “Sure” Kevin said, hopping out of the booth and out the door. We waited five minutes and sure enough Jackie came out except this time she was wearing a pink v-neck tank instead of her Pinkberry’s shirt which Joe so desperately wanted. We all walked over to bumper cars, with our luck, the line was out the door. “Oh fantastic, what now?” Kevin said, disappointed that we would have to wait so long for his favorite ride. “Well, we could always play laser tag while we wait…” Tory suggested. “Let’s do it!” I shouted. “Girls versus guys?” Nick asked. “Most definitely!” Abby answered. “Big Rob can be on your team so it’s even!” Abby suggested. “We’d beat you so bad if he was on our team though.” Nick said, shaking his head sarcastically. “We only want to beat you by a little bit.” Nick said competitively. Everyone laughed. “Bring it on Nick J!” Tory laughed as we walked into the dark room. We all looked funny in our glowing vests and weirdly shaped laser guns. “Everybody charge up your guns!” The instructor shouted. We all frantically ran around looking for the charging stations. “Okay we’re starting in 5,4,3,2,1!” He yelled. I did a James Bond roll out from behind one of the walls, I saw Abby across from me who peaked her head out from behind a wall, shoot at Nick who had began running out towards me and then crouch down back behind it again. I laughed and did a cartwheel out into the open which wasn’t a good idea because Kevin, Nick, and Joe all shot at me. I laughed and walked over to the charging station again. I heard an angry sigh and Tory showed up next to me. “What happened to you?” I asked. “Abby forgot that she shouldn’t shoot at the people on her own team.” She said, bursting out into laughter. “I guess I jumped out a little too quickly for her and she thought I was one of them attacking her.” By this time we were in hysterics. “Do you know where Jackie is?” I asked, not seeing her on our side of the laser tag room. “Nope” Tory said shooting at the charger and walking away. All of a sudden there were three screams followed by three angry sighs. “Yes!” Jackie shouted running over to us. “I got all three of them!” “How?” Abby asked. “I snuck onto their side!” She shouted. We all looked at each other and then back at her. “Oh” I said, walking behind a different wall. Abby and Tory followed. “Show off” Abby said, glaring at Jackie who was running around giggling as the guys shot at her. “Tell me about it” I sighed. “Let’s just try and have a good time tonight… it is the guys last day here for a while.” Tory said trying to lighten things up a little bit. “Oh, look who won!” Tory shouted at the end of the game. We had beaten the boys by ten points. “Yeah, go figure. Maybe if the teams were even!” Nick shouted… he heated losing. “Excuses, excuses…” Tory sighed sarcastically, putting her hand in Nick’s as we walked to bumper cars, but it was already closed and it was getting late. We decided to walk to the beach for a few minutes before I had to get home. We all lay down in the sand looking up at the clear night sky. All the stars were out, shining brighter than I’d ever seen them before. We chose a star like we always do, but this time something felt different, more magical. “Hi, uhm this is your friend calling you to say helloooo” My phone screamed. I frantically answered it. “Way to ruin the moment Cadence” I said to myself. “You should be heading home now Cade.” My mom said. I sighed and stood up. “Yup, I’m almost home now.” I lied. “Okay mom”…”Of course”…” Buh-bye” … “Love you too” I said answering a few more questions before hanging up the phone. Everyone else had gotten the memo and began walking to the Jonas’ car. Joe stood there at the edge of the beach waiting for me. I walked over to him and stood facing him; he laced his fingers through mine, bent down, and kissed me. “I’m going to miss you” I whispered to him. “I’m going to miss you too Cade… I’m really going to miss you.” |
