<><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Since that day, saying goodbye to the Jonas’ was the last time I saw Joe for the next year.  It looks like he’s moved on to bigger and better people anyways dating AJ and whatnot. I could care less though, he’s a big superstar and I’m not… I could’ve been, but I like my life without acting a whole lot better. I’m not saying that I don’t like Joe because I do, but I don’t think he feels the same way anymore. It’s not even like he formally broke up with me, he just stopped answering any calls, texts, or e-mails I sent him. That, now that hurt and I never want that to happen again. Tory and Nick on the other hand are still together and communicating. No matter what you hear about him dating Miley, all of it’s not true. Everyone just thinks that because they’re the same age and on tour together they’re dating. Nick, actually all three brothers are pretty annoyed with her right now anyways.

My mom and I get along so much better now without acting and that’s probably the best thing out of quitting. Abby, Tory, and I are still best friends. Life right now is pretty good besides seeing Joe and AJ together in every single magazine. Part of me misses Joe, but part of me wants to slap across the face.

“Cade! Come on! We’re going to the beach!” Tory yelled, slamming my front door shut behind her and Abby. I loved how we rarely rang each other’s doorbells anymore, we just walked in. We were like one huge family.

“Coming!” I yelled throwing a white sweater on over my pink striped bikini and putting my white-rimmed sunglasses on my head. Before I ran out of my room, I looked on my desk at the picture of the Jonas’ and us sitting on the beach, that last day they were here was when that picture was taken.  Then, I quickly looked down at my wrist and touched the charm bracelet Joe had given me. I sent a sharp pain right to my heart. Right at that moment I wanted to rip it off and throw it out the window, but I stopped, I couldn’t do it, I made a promise to never take it off, and I would not ever break it. “Mom, I’m going to the beach!” I yelled down the hallway, stopping one more time to look in my room and then sprinting down the stairs.

“Okay hunny, don’t forget sunscreen!” She yelled.

“I won’t”

“So what called for this emergency beach trip at nine in the morning in the beginning of July?” I asked, watching my feet as I shuffled through the sand and to our usual spot, laying out my towel and setting down my beach bag which contained my sunscreen, hat, and money.

“Oh, you’ll see soon enough, but I’m ready for a swim. It’s already like ninety degrees outside.  It’s definitely going to be a scorcher.” Abby laughed. I rolled my eyes and followed her out to the water. I stopped dead in my tracks and let the water brush up against my feet. I loved the smell of the salt water and the heat of the sun basking down on a day like this, the beach is the place to be. I was just about to walk a little deeper into the water when a boy, late teenage years, ran backwards into me, tripping over my foot causing me to tumble back onto him.

“Oh, sorry, I’m so sorry. I wasn’t watching were I was going. I got the football though!”  He laughed, trying to lighten things up. I smiled and shook my head as I stood up.

“It’s okay, I’m fine. Are you okay?” I asked as I turned to look at Abby who was looking from me to the boy and back again a few times with an expression that was hard to read, kind of surprised. Then, I turned around. “Oh my god” I whispered.

“I’m fine. I’m really sorry about that though.” He stood up and dusted of his bathing suit. Then he looked up at me. “Oh, wow Cadence?” Joe asked. His expression changed from sympathetic to shocked.

“Yeah. I better be going now.” I said, quickly trying to run away.

“Wait!” He said grabbing my arm. “Don’t you want to talk a little while? I haven’t seen you guys in forever.” He asked.

“Just say no Cadence” I said to myself, remembering how bad I felt when I never got a phone call back. I watched him walk away, the sun reflecting off of his back showing off his muscles. “JOE WAIT!” I shouted.

He turned around with a grin on his face, motioning for Kevin and Nick to follow.  Abby came in from swimming and we all walked back to where Tory had been seated.

“Tory” Nick whispered. She looked up from the magazine she’d been reading and smiled.

“Nick!” She practically screaming. She stood up, wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. “I missed you” She said resting her head on his shoulder and he held her tight.

I felt Joe’s eyes on me, stinging my back. I knew he had something to say.

“Cade, we need to talk” I heard him say as he grabbed my arm and lead me over to a shady area by the pier. “I know you hate me…”

“You got that part right.” I said without thinking, putting my hand over my mouth.

Joe laughed and then continued. “I never answered your phone calls and I started dating AJ, who I broke up with just before I came here. Do you want to know why?” He asked, but I just watched him. I wanted to get up and leave right then, but I stayed and listened contently. “Because I was missing something, and that something was you Cade. The reason why I didn’t answer your calls was because I was afraid that If we kept things going long distance, that I would miss you too much and have to go back. I was afraid of missing you and becoming too attached. When I broke up with AJ I told her the whole story, that i’d only dated her to take my mind off you and when I held her in my arms it was really you. That’s the whole story, not leaving out any part. That’s all I have to say, I love you Cadence Rayne.” He said, his eyes were shiny, and I could feel his nervousness and shame.

All I could do was stand up and walk away. I was in too much of a shock to say anything.

“If that wasn’t good enough for you, I don’t know what is! You're still wearing that charm bracelet aren't you?” Joe yelled after me.

After hearing that I stopped. I turned around to see Joe standing up in the same spot he had just been sitting in. I looked at him and he looked at me, I felt my eyes welling up with tear and I ran. I ran right to him and wrapped my arms around his neck and cried into his shoulder. At first he was in shock, but then he wrapped his arms around my waist and rubbed my back.

“Cade, it’s alright.” He whispered.

“I know, that’s why I’m crying, but Joe, I just need you to promise me one thing.” I told him.

“You’ll never think of something that ridiculous again.” I laughed, tears still streaming down my cheeks.

“Promise” He said holding my head in his hands and wiping away my tears with his hand, he kissed my forehead protectively and then held my hand as we stood up.

"I love you Joseph Adam" I said smiling at him. He smiled back as we walked the rest of the way back to the beach blanket where everyone else was in silence, taking in each other’s presence because we knew this wasn’t the end. They’ve gotten so much more famous, there’s bound to be more drama, but part of us knew we’d find a way to get through it.

Chapter twenty: Part Two

Sorry for the long wait once again! This week is finals so that might mean more chapters in less time! Sorry for any mistakes! Enjoy! -Nicole

“Who wants ice cream?” Joe mimicked, watching me as I giggled. “Ice cream and Starbucks, that’s all that boy ever thinks about.” Joe said sounding almost like he was the older brother.

“Actually Joe, I think that’s the only thing you ever think about… minus the Starbucks.” I laughed. He smiled and we continued walking.

“Hey, but ice cream’s a lot better than Starbucks so you can’t blame me for having it on my mind all the time.” He laughed.

“So you want to tell me why were walking?” I finally asked when we’d made it to the sand.

“Right, I was getting there.” He said, looking down at the ground before back up at me. I had a slight feeling of nervousness, but I brushed the thought away. “There’s another thing on my mind all the time too.” He said. He looked into my eyes and just that was enough to make me weak. I looked down and then back up at him.

“What could that be?” I asked him with a smile on my face.

“Well, there’s this girl and her name starts with a C and I’m going to miss her on this next tour.” He said with a soft smile across his face.

“I think she’s going to miss you too.” I whispered. We stopped and sat down, watching as the cool water brushed up against our feet.

“That’s good because I have something for her… something that always makes me think of her.” He pulled something out of his back pocket. “It might be weird, but your name means melody… or to fall, but we just won’t go there… it’s fitting for you though.” He laughed, talking so fast I couldn’t help not to laugh.

“Way to ruin the moment there Joe, with your falling comment.” I said, still laughing. “You would know too because you’re the one I fell on top of.”

“Twice!” He added. He opened up the box and inside was a beautiful silver chained bracelet with a few small, silver charms dangling off of it, a heart, a sun, a rose, a musical note, and a star.

“Joe… it’s beautiful!” I smiled, holding my wrist out so that he could fasten it on.

I leaned in and kissed him sending a shiver up my spine, as I pulled away he wrapped his arm around my waist as we watched the waves.

“We should get back, I’m sure Kevin is dying in there waiting for his ice cream.” I laughed.

“Yeah” He said, almost in a disappointed tone.

“Joe, is everything okay?” I asked.

“Oh Yeah! I’m fine!” he smiled, grabbing my hand as we ran through the sand back to the café. I laughed as he dragged me along.

“Ice Cream time?” Kevin asked as soon as Joe and I walked through the door.

“Yeah Kev, Let’s go!” Tory said enthusiastically. Kevin stood up and practically ran out the door.

“What am I even doing hanging out with you teenagers?” Kevin asked himself.

“We don’t know Kevin” Abby answered. Kevin laughed as we walked along the boardwalk together for the last time until their tour is over. For the next half a year there won’t be anymore weird looks directed toward us as we made fools of ourselves in a long line on the board walk.

“You’re just using us for Ice Cream Kev.” Nick laughed. Everyone stared at him not finding it as funny he did. “What? ... I thought it was a good one.” Nick said, pulling himself together and taking Tory’s hand as we continued walking to find the Pinkberry down the board walk.

“Excuse me Nick, but I believe it’s called a bien uno… not a good one.” I said correcting him, in a sarcastic tone remembering the time when Tory said something funny and instead of saying “Good one” I showed off my Spanish 2 skills and said bien uno.

“Oh, my bad” He said sarcastically back at me.

“Hi everyone, I’m Jackie and I’ll be your server. What can I get you all tonight?” Jackie asked after we’d all been seated in a booth at Pinkberry. She had a slim figure and her reddish brown hair pulled up into a pony-tail. She was wearing a pair of tan Bermuda shorts and her uniformed pinkberry T-shirt.

“You guys order, I’ll go last.” Joe said holding the menu up way to close to his face. We all laughed shaking our heads.

“I guess I’ll go first then. I’ll have the original with chocolate chips and strawberries.” I said putting the menu down and starting a pile for them.

“Okay” She smiled. “What can I get you?” She asked, biting her lip and smiling at Kevin.

“I’ll get the coffee with chocolate chips.” He said, blushing and handing his menu forward. Nick ordered shaved ice and Tory and Abby got originals with cookies and cream for a topping. Joe got the original with fruity pebbles.

“Hey, do any of you guys know where I can get one of those awesome shirts?” Joe said pointing excitedly to Jackie’s uniform. Everyone laughed.

“Joe you really are in love with this place.” Nick laughed. “Almost like Kevin and Starbucks… scary” Nick added.

“Soon I’ll be able to smell Pinkberry from 250,000 miles away!” Joe said excitedly.

“Uhh, don’t mean to bring you down, but I don’t think that’s possible, I mean I can’t even do that.” Kevin said, trying really hard not to laugh. By now everyone was bursting out into laughter, we were so into the conversation that nobody noticed Jackie standing there with our ice cream.

“What! Then I’ll never be anything … oh, sorry” Joe said, stopping mid-sentence noticing Jackie there watching us. Everyone stopped laughing, ready to get their ice cream.

“How much of that conversation did you catch?” Kevin asked Jackie.

“Well, I now know that it’s not possible to smell Starbucks from 250,000 miles away… that’s too bad because I was pretty sure I was getting close.” She laughed, about to walk away.

“Wait! You like Starbucks too?” Kevin asked excitedly.

“Who doesn’t love Starbucks?” She asked, walking away.

“Wow Kev, aren’t you two a match made in heaven?” Abby asked sarcastically.

“She likes Starbucks!” Kevin shouted.

“We Know!” We all shouted back.

“I think Kevin’s got himself a little crush.” Joe said, eyeing him suspiciously.

“No guys! Stop it! I think she’s cute, but…” He started being cut off by Jackie coming back to check on us.

“You think who’s cute?” She asked.

“I think that uhh… our new puppy is cute!” Kevin shouted.

“Nice cover” Joe said nudging him.

“Well, here’s the check. Have a great day guys! Maybe I’ll see you around?” She said, plopping the check down on the table and turning away for the last time.

“Jackie!” Kevin shouted once she had turned around.

“mhm” she said, stopping dead in her tracks.

“Do you want to come to bumper cars with us when your shift ends?” He asked her, looking around at all of us to make sure it was okay too. We all nodded our heads and he looked back at her.

“Shift ends in five, so I’ll meet you guys out front?” She asked excitedly.

“Sure” Kevin said, hopping out of the booth and out the door. We waited five minutes and sure enough Jackie came out except this time she was wearing a pink v-neck tank instead of her Pinkberry’s shirt which Joe so desperately wanted. We all walked over to bumper cars, with our luck, the line was out the door.

“Oh fantastic, what now?” Kevin said, disappointed that we would have to wait so long for his favorite ride.

“Well, we could always play laser tag while we wait…” Tory suggested.

“Let’s do it!” I shouted.

“Girls versus guys?” Nick asked.

“Most definitely!” Abby answered. “Big Rob can be on your team so it’s even!” Abby suggested.

“We’d beat you so bad if he was on our team though.” Nick said, shaking his head sarcastically. “We only want to beat you by a little bit.” Nick said competitively. Everyone laughed.

“Bring it on Nick J!” Tory laughed as we walked into the dark room. We all looked funny in our glowing vests and weirdly shaped laser guns.

“Everybody charge up your guns!” The instructor shouted. We all frantically ran around looking for the charging stations. “Okay we’re starting in 5,4,3,2,1!” He yelled. I did a James Bond roll out from behind one of the walls, I saw Abby across from me who peaked her head out from behind a wall, shoot at Nick who had began running out towards me and then crouch down back behind it again. I laughed and did a cartwheel out into the open which wasn’t a good idea because Kevin, Nick, and Joe all shot at me. I laughed and walked over to the charging station again. I heard an angry sigh and Tory showed up next to me.

“What happened to you?” I asked.

“Abby forgot that she shouldn’t shoot at the people on her own team.” She said, bursting out into laughter. “I guess I jumped out a little too quickly for her and she thought I was one of them attacking her.”

By this time we were in hysterics. “Do you know where Jackie is?” I asked, not seeing her on our side of the laser tag room.

“Nope” Tory said shooting at the charger and walking away. All of a sudden there were three screams followed by three angry sighs.

“Yes!” Jackie shouted running over to us. “I got all three of them!”

“How?” Abby asked.

“I snuck onto their side!” She shouted. We all looked at each other and then back at her.

“Oh” I said, walking behind a different wall. Abby and Tory followed.

“Show off” Abby said, glaring at Jackie who was running around giggling as the guys shot at her.

“Tell me about it” I sighed.

“Let’s just try and have a good time tonight… it is the guys last day here for a while.” Tory said trying to lighten things up a little bit.

“Oh, look who won!” Tory shouted at the end of the game. We had beaten the boys by ten points.

“Yeah, go figure. Maybe if the teams were even!” Nick shouted… he heated losing.

“Excuses, excuses…” Tory sighed sarcastically, putting her hand in Nick’s as we walked to bumper cars, but it was already closed and it was getting late. We decided to walk to the beach for a few minutes before I had to get home.

We all lay down in the sand looking up at the clear night sky. All the stars were out, shining brighter than I’d ever seen them before. We chose a star like we always do, but this time something felt different, more magical.

“Hi, uhm this is your friend calling you to say helloooo” My phone screamed. I frantically answered it. “Way to ruin the moment Cadence” I said to myself.

“You should be heading home now Cade.” My mom said. I sighed and stood up.

“Yup, I’m almost home now.” I lied. “Okay mom”…”Of course”…” Buh-bye” … “Love you too” I said answering a few more questions before hanging up the phone. Everyone else had gotten the memo and began walking to the Jonas’ car. Joe stood there at the edge of the beach waiting for me. I walked over to him and stood facing him; he laced his fingers through mine, bent down, and kissed me.

“I’m going to miss you” I whispered to him.

“I’m going to miss you too Cade… I’m really going to miss you.”

Chapter Twenty: Part One

This took forever to finish! Sorry about that! Don’t worry though, during the summer they’ll come pretty regularly. It’s the end of the year and finals are really time consuming. Thanks so much!

Cadence’s P.O.V.

“Did you ever once think about what I wanted? Mom you can’t just go around making decisions for other people like that!” I shouted. Kate and my dad sat in their chairs watching as my mom and I battled it out.

“Cadence you love acting!” She shouted back from across the breakfast nook.

“No mom… you love acting.” I whispered, trying to make it hurt her, grabbing my cell phone and purse and running out the front door. I slammed the door behind me and sat down on the steps for a second. “I QUIT BY THE WAY!” I shouted, opening the front door back up and slamming it again, stumbling down the front steps. I was going home, I didn’t know how, but I had a credit card with me and I was going to that airport, I couldn’t stand being here one more minute. I started running, getting as far away from the house as I could. I was still in my pajama’s which consisted of old gray sweatpants I had ripped into shorts and white tank top with a green zip-up hoodie. The laces of my black converse bounced against my shoe as I ran. I didn’t stop until I’d made it to the airport which was about five minutes away in a car.

“Joe?” I said answering my phone once I’d gotten inside of the airport. I stood in the corner of the lobby as by a tall white pole covering my other ear from all the noise.

“Hey! I’m missing you. We’re packing… getting ready to leave tomorrow. I just wanted to know how things are going for you.” He said. His voice itself was soothing to hear.

“You always have perfect timing don’t you Joseph.” I laughed lightly. “To tell you the truth things are going pretty bad right now, but I QUIT!” I shouted somewhat excitedly almost forgetting everything that had just happened.

“You…you what?” He asked slightly caught off guard.

“I quit, my mom… she’s just… she brought me here to accept a part in a Disney channel show that I had got. She sent in an audition tape for and so the house that we were supposedly staying in for the week is actually our house and Joe… I just, I just didn’t know what to do. I completely froze listening to her and yelled “I quit” and ran out the door. I’m standing in The Los Angeles International Airport right now and everyone’s staring at me because I’m still in my pajamas, but I could really care-less.” I said talking so fast I could barely comprehend what I’d just said let-alone Joe. “Did you get any of that?” I asked after there was no response from his end of the line.

“Yeah, I got it all Cade. Wow… I just, I guess I’m kind of in shock right now. Are you coming home?” He asked, I could hear him running his fingers through his hair and I knew he felt stressed from everything I’d just told him.

“Well, there’s no way I’m staying here.” I said shaking my head, making my way towards the ticket booth.

“I’m not going to make you do anything, but maybe you should talk it out with your mom? Maybe she fills a little sorry by now?” he asked, not really sure what to tell me. I could tell he was a little worried about me flying all the way home without anyone knowing.

“If I know my mom, by now she’s probably in a float, tanning at the pool in our backyard by now.” I replied hastily.

“Hmm, well, if you want to come home, by all means by yourself a ticket and come. I had nothing to do with it though, I tried to stop you.” He laughed.

“Alright Joe, you had nothing to do with it.” I giggled. “What if… what if I have to live here Joe? What if I have to leave everyone back home to live here?” I asked.

“Cade, if you don’t even know how to answer that there’s no way I do. I have a feeling that you won’t have to move there. If that makes you feel any better, but if you do, you’ll have a lot of depressed friends and family back home.” He said, trying to cheer me up, but doing exactly the opposite.

“Thanks? I think I’d better call Tory and Abby now though… they’ll want to know.” I said, feeling my throat tightening, just the thought of being moving away from everyone for good, brought me to tears. I think it would bring anyone to tears.

“If you need anything, call me okay? I love you Cade.” He said, about to hang up the phone.

“I… love…you… too” I finally choked out.

As soon as I pulled myself together I called the girls since I knew they were together.

“Hello?” Came Tory’s cheerful voice. It was seven in the morning over there and I couldn’t believe they were actually awake… and functioning.

“Cadence? What’s going on?” Abby yelled into the phone.

“I’m on speaker phone right?” I asked before spilling the story on them.

“Yup you are, is everything alright? There’s a lot of background noise.” Abby asked.

“No, everything’s not alright. Here’s the thing, the house that we’re staying in is really our house. My parents bought it and the only way that they got me here was saying it was vacation. What this trip really was supposed to be was me accepting the role I got in a TV show that my mom auditioned me for, I got the lead role for it and it’s a Disney channel show… that’s big. Now I’m in an airport after freaking out, I just bought an airplane ticket home, and so I just…don’t know what to do and I’m hoping for some support. Maybe a little?” I laughed, trying to cover-up for the complete confusion going on inside me.

“Cade, wow… I don’t know what to say. Do you still have your house here?” Tory asked.

“I d…don’t know.” I said, tears running down my cheeks by now as I choked out the words.

“Cade, is there anything we can do?” Abby asked.

“Not right now. Thanks guys… for listening. I’ve got to go, my plane’s boarding soon.” I lied, really just needing to get off of the phone and think for a while.

“Okay, well… call us when you get home.” Abby said before hanging up the phone.

“Bye” I said before hanging up my phone, but they’d already hung up. I sighed and put the phone in my pocket. I sat down in one of the blue chairs and stared out the window. A few minutes later I heard my name being called. I turned around to see my mom standing there in the middle of a huge crowd of people in line for a plane ticket frantically calling my name. She looked over-tired and sadder than I’d ever seen her, her eyes were puffy and red and she was still in her sweatpants as well, which was odd because she’d never be caught dead in public with that on.

“Mom… I’m right here.” I whispered pulling her from the crowd, somewhat embarrassed by her. “How’d you know I’d come here?” I asked her.

“Sit down” She said somewhat relieved, leading me back towards the blue chairs. “Believe it or not, I was a teenager once and if my mom ever did that to me then I know the airport would be the first place I’d go.” She said, forcing a smile to her face.

“Why’d you do it then?” I asked, I twisted my feet inwards and looked down at the converse I had on.

“I did it because I was stupid. I’d always wanted what you had as a child and I thought that you wanted it too. It never crossed my mind, through all the signs that you gave me that you wanted to stop this, that you could seriously not want this life. Well, it was hard to believe that you wouldn’t want this, but I guess we all have different dreams as kids and this one just wasn’t yours. I’m sorry Cadence… for pushing you to do something you don’t want and for doing. You made taught me something Cadence, now I’m going to try and fix this. Sound good?” she asked. I smiled and she smiled back.

“I think that sounds pretty swell.” I laughed. “As long as I can go back to Jersey now because I paid for this ticket and my flight just got called.” I said.

She thought about it for a minute and then smiled. “Go. We still own our house. Have fun, just don’t do anything dumb.” She laughed standing up. I stood up and grabbed my purse before hugging her.

“I’m so sorry Cade.” She whispered, finally letting me go. She wiped tears from her eyes and smiled at me. I smiled back lightly, feeling my eyes start to well up.

“It’s okay” I replied, waving as I handed my ticket to the lady collecting them and walked onto the plane.

The ride home was long and the whole time I looked out the window and thought, about everything going on. I was glad my mom and I had made up, but there was something inside of me that told me that everything wasn’t all better. I shook that thought from my mind though and popped my ear-phones in beginning to blast music from them.

When the plane finally landed it was around six at night and I pulled out my cell phone. When I walked into the lobby I saw a familiar face smiling back at me. It was none other than Joe Jonas. I ran over and hugged him.

“How’d you know I was going to be here?” I asked, smiling and looking into his beautiful deep brown eyes.

“Mom’s and cell phone’s are beautiful things.” He laughed, pulling me close.

“So she called you I’m guessing?”

“Yes she did. She told me I’m in charge and you’ve got to do whatever I say.” He said, holding back a smile, in a not so serious, but attempting to be serious voice. I laughed and laced my fingers in his as we walked down the hallway to luggage. Once we’d picked that up he led me out the sliding double doors and into the parking lot where Kevin was waiting in the car.

“So… where are we off to boys?” I asked, leaning on one foot and then balancing myself out again.

“We are off too…” Joe said, pausing to think about where we were actually going. “…somewhere special!” He said enthusiastically as he turned up the radio so loud I covered up my ears.

The whole rest of the ride to “somewhere special” went by quickly. Joe was playing around with the radio stations and volume while we all screamed along to the words of. “Over My Head (Cable Car)” by the Fray which was on the radio at the moment.

“Is anyone else completely sick of this song?” I screamed over the radio.

Joe turned around to face me “YES” He shouted while nodding up and down to the beat. I laughed at his hyper mood as he turned back around and opened up the window so all the cars around us on the interstate could hear the music and us as well. The next thing I knew we pulled into the small café that we went to when we were just getting to know each other. I giggled when I saw it.

“Here? This is the somewhere special that you’re taking me?” I asked sarcastically. Joe stared me down, then smiled and grabbed my wrist, pulling me in the café. When we got in Tory, Nick, and Abby were all waiting with a pizza and our favorite ice teas that we always get when we come here now. I almost immediately say down next to Abby and grabbed a piece of pizza.

“Uhh, Hi Cade?” Nick said, laughing at how I hadn’t even thought of saying hi to anyone.

“Oh, sorry guys! Hi! I missed you!... for the day I was gone.” I said enthusiastically. Nick looked so much better than he did a few months ago. He still had to watch what he ate, but he gained back a little weight so he wasn’t exactly a stick anymore. He definitely could beat Joe and Kevin in and arm wrestle. Things with he and Tory were going really good. Everyone laughed and then helped themselves to a piece of pizza.

The whole time we didn’t stop laughing. None of us ended up doing karaoke this time, but other people from around town decided too. Probably the most hilarious thing we’d ever seen especially since my fifty year old neighbor happened to be there and he just happened to be singing “Sexyback” by Justin Timberlake. Talk about a Joe Jonas “Awk-Ward” right there.

“Cade. Do you want to maybe go for a walk?” He asked.

“Sure Joe” I answered curiously. I picked up my light, white sweater and stood about following him out the door. I quickly waved to everyone else and walked out the door.

“When they come back, who wants ice cream?” Kevin asked excitedly. Everyone laughed including Joe and I.

Boy, did I love my friends.

“We’re experiencing some turbulence so we ask that you all buckle up. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.” The JetBlue flight attendant said, talking to us like we were kindergartener’s. I rolled my eyes and smiled at her as she walked by to make sure we’d all obeyed. I threw my head back on the thin-foam pillow they gave to me, it was covered in a blue “pillow-case” which felt like a piece of itchy paper, and looked out the window at all the different states we were flying through, it all looked tan with blue lines and patches across it, everyone was so amazed by it, but to me all that was nothing special. It only amused me because I loved to just think. Sometimes on the bus, I’d just look out the window on the way home when no one else was there and take time and think about everything and anything. I noticed my thoughts drifting to Joe… not just a little bit either. I couldn’t wait until Tuesday when he had a free day and we were going to head to the beach and hang out all day.

A few hours later it was almost 11:30pm and I decided to watch some TV. The chair I was sitting in was fairly comfortable, a tan colored leather, and there were TV’s on every seat. I placed my thin headphones on and turned the TV on revealing the movie page, where you could pick from a certain selection of movies the plane had and slide your credit card on the side of the screen to pay and watch the movie. I debated between watching the new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and Little Miss Sunshine before finally settling on Little Miss Sunshine. Everyone around me was sleeping, not to mention snoring pretty loudly. My dad was sleeping next to me and he was probably the loudest snorer you’d ever hear, my mom was seated in front of him and she was a little quieter, my sister, well, the only thing she’d do which is probably the worst is start yelling things in her sleep. One time, when she was in my room and I was about ten years old she started yelling “HELP ME” and it was pretty scary.

Throughout the movie I had to keep adjusting my headphones so that I would actually be able to hear it because of all the snoring going on around me. About halfway through it I drifted off to sleep, but not too long after that I woke up again to Paul Dano screaming the F- word because he just found out that he wasn’t going to be able to become a pilot because he was color blind. At first I jumped, but then started laughing. I finished watching the rest of the movie at around 1:30am and my eyes stung from forcing them open. Finally, I drifted off.

“Baby Cade? Time to get up… we’re in California.” My dad said, gently shaking me. I nodded my head to let him know that I had heard him and then sat up and rubbed my eyes. I held my hands and pushed upwards to stretch out my back letting out a little yawn. When I stood up I straightened out my white T-Shirt with a little soccer logo on it and my black soccer shorts, following everyone out of the plane and into the humid California air.

“So this is what it’s like in California in the middle of February. Ninety degree weather… I seriously do NOT know how these Californians do it. Lucky I only have to endure it for a week.” I sighed walking into the slightly cooler airport. My mom smiled, not really having a response to my last comment.

“It’s not ninety degrees here and there’s always AC Cade.” My sister said in a “Duh” voice. My mom elbowed her and then looked back at me. I was confused and a little bit afraid about what was going on. Nothing could come to mind that was even supposed to be going on here, just a vacation. I mean, we do always take a small trip during February Vacation.

We all picked up our luggage and did all the other normal things when you’re coming off an airplane. Including a quick stop in the bathroom because, as my dad always says “You girls have to go to the bathroom every hour.”

We picked up our rental car, which was a golden Ford Focus with tan leather interior. Kate and I hopped into the car to call our sides of the car. I beat her, of course, to the left side of the car. For some reason we always fought over the seat behind the drivers one. It was quite stupid actually, but, hey, it was definitely something we always fight about.

We finally got to the house about five minutes later at around 6:30am and Kate and I ran in. My mom showed us to our rooms and we both hopped into bed and fell asleep.

*Nora’s (Cadence’s mom) P.O.V.*

“Nora, do you really think Cadence will be alright with this. I still think she should’ve known before we left Jersey. I know this is a big thing for her, but…” Ben (cadence’s dad) said, tapping the black granite counter top with the tips of his fingers.

“Ben, come on, she’ll be ecstatic when we tell her, she loves what she does and mother always knows best. I would never do something like this unless I was absolutely sure.” I answered defensively. I knew Cadence wouldn’t be mad, she couldn’t be. I’ve worked so hard to get her this far and now she’s here and there’s no turning back. Flashpoint’s over and it’s time to move on to bigger and better things. There was just no way I made the wrong decision.

“As long as you’re sure Nora, you know, we can always go back to New Jersey if we have to.  I’m not saying that we’ll have to, but I think you should tell her as soon as she wakes up.” Ben said, sitting down at the counter and taking a bite of the bagel and cream cheese Nora had prepared.

“Fine, I’ll go get the envelope right now.” I said. I walked over to the living room with the brand new furniture we had spent a fortune on and picked through my carry-on bag until I pulled out the large orange confidential folder Cadence had asked me about a few months ago. She was finally going to find out what she’d been dying to know. I heard some rustling from upstairs and braced myself for Cadence’s sleepy face to appear in the door to the nook. I made chocolate chip pancakes which were her favorites.

“Hey mom… pancakes? You never cook.” Kate said walking in and grabbing one of the plates. I sighed, the tension was building up inside of me and the more I thought about what I’d done the more wrong it sounded.

“Oh, you’re going to break the news to Cadence?” Kate asked, sipping the glass of fruit juice in front of her. I heard the stair squeak and I practically jumped backward into the counter.

“Break what news?” Cadence asked walking into the kitchen with an unsure smile.

“Nothing… nothing. I made pancakes!” I smiled placing the plate and glass of milk in front of her. She took the plate and glass cautiously.

“Okay, something’s seriously going on and if you don’t tell me know… I don’t know, but I’m getting sick of wondering. It’s February, I tagged along on this trip… please just tell me.” She said getting a little louder and serious.

“Well, Cadence… do you remember the envelope?” I asked her, holding it out. My arm was shaking as I held it out and she grabbed it forcefully.

“Yeah, what about it?” She asked looking at it and then finally opening it up. She looked at the papers inside and said nothing. Her smile faded and she stood up. The look she had on her face was one a parent never wanted to get. Her lip was trembling and I could tell she was angrier than she’d ever been. “I get it, you dragged me here to just have me audition again… no vacation you tricked me into auditioning for some stupid show… what’s it called? … OH! IT’S UNTITLED!” She shouted.

“Cadence, this is our house. We moved here so that you could do this show. You’ve go the lead role in it and if you don’t take it some girl named… I don’t know Miley will get it. It’s a new Disney Channel show… DISNEY CADENCE! You can’t turn this down. We already paid for all this new furniture and new house. This is an opportunity of a lifetime!” I said, trying to cheer her up a little bit. Cadence stood there with the same look on her face.

“I can’t believe you” She whispered. The tone of her voice made me shiver and I knew nothing I said could change how she felt, but there was nothing she can do about this. I couldn’t believe what I’d done.
