(Translation: There once was a true love presented before me; I didn't cherish it. Only upon losing that love did I feel great remorse. The worst pain in life is no more than this. If fate can grant me a second chance, I will say three words to her: "I love you." If there must be a time limit, I wish it would be ten thousand years!)

After reading the above quote, you must be thinking "WTF is Jack on??????!!! is he gone nuts??" hahaha, actually that used to be one of my favorite, even though it IS cheesy as hell lol. Its from the movie Chinese Odessy, the most underrated, sophistcated movie by Stephen Chow, and of course one of my favorite. I havent seen this movie for a long long time... and I almost forgot about it. Yet somehow... I stumbled across it today... and somehow, I felt something echoed deep in my heart....
but the main topic of this entry, is not about this quote, its about how I came across it. If you work in consulting you would understand that there are times when you are in da middle of the project and cramming for deliverables, you might work 15 hrs a day... but there are also times when you are unstaffed in between projects that you have nothing to do, which is exactly what happened to Jack in the past week.
for the past week, in order to not waste time, I tried to learn some stuff over the internet.... and happen to stumble across this "little" site named "Wikipedia", which to me, is the one of da BEST thing ever made in the internet. IT HAS EVERYTHING!!! haha, probably one of the most educational and entertaining website out there. If you have known Jack for sometimes, you know that he does not like to read much english books. But he doesnt wanna sound like a fool who cant talk about any classical literature either... So..... Wikipedia offers da perfect solution: plot synopsis!!! so far I have read like every single classical novel that has ever existed, from Alexandre Dumas's d'Artagnan Romances, to Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, from Victor Hugo's Les Miserables, to Charles Dickens' Great Expectations..... you name it and Wikipedia has it. and it not only summarizes it in detail for you, it also give you in-depth character analysis, theme interpretations, and ever cultural references and influences!! In the world of today, when efficiency and time is value like gold, this is da way to learn man!!! hahaa
not just classical literature, but also movies, and that is how I found that quote from Stephen Chow. Funny thing, I learned so many random stuff from Wikipedia too, like which movie has the most "F-word" in it??? the answer is DeNiro's Casino, which had a mind-boggliing 398 "F-word" appearances!!!! you also learn interesting things such as the "storm trooper effects" and the "reverse ninja law" lol.
Also, I was surprised to find out that there is actually english translated version of my favorite WuXia Novel ³À¹©°O!! so I instantly checked out Amazon and read a few pages from it. Surprisingly, I found it to be HIGHLY ENTERTAINING haha, and now I am OBSESSED to find a copy! the only problem is that buying all 3 books (the english version divided the novel into 3, and each has 500 pages!!!! that just tells you how RICH chinese novels are!!) takes around 60 USD even for 2nd hand!!!... so Jack can only wait until he goes back to china to buy the fake ones lol....I am poor now.... spent too much recenly.
The biggest reason that I found this english version to be highly entertaining is because of the translations.... let's just say that something in Chinese is just not meant be translated into english haha. in an unintentional comedy scale of 1 to 10... I give these "bad" translations a 39!! hahahahaha, allow me to share a few:
The title ³À¹©°O became The deer and the Cauldron (³À©M¤jÁç??!!)
¸yÄñ¤Q¸U³e ÃMÅb¤W´¦{ became Strap on a myriad string of cash, and ride a cane to YangZhou Town
³¤pÄ_ became Trinket Wie, which actually means Wie "little treasure"
¤Ñ¦a·| became the Triad, (ì¨Ó¤Ñ¦a·|¬O¶Â¤âÄÒªº«e¨???!!)
ÂI§Aªº¦º¥Þ became closed your fatal points .....(§Ú¤w¸g¯ºw¦b¦a¤W¤F)
LOL, and I can go on and on, this thing is just tooooo hilarious hahhaa, can someone plus find a fake copy for me??? you will be rewarded!!!
hehe, this is my 6th week of my internship already... and 4 more WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hope to see everyone soon!! |
