  • The Real Reason the Love God Only Listen on Thurs.

Well. Apparently. At that little temple hidden at the far back corner of Central World, you can go make offerings to the Love God. However if you really want to make an impression you should go at 9:30PM on Thursdays because that is when he descends to listen to prayers. COOL HUH?

    Anyways.
My life has just been completed. I can now go back to Canada happy knowing that KHUN NOO TEWADA, and BADAN JAI - MY FAVORITE THAI DRAMAS - ARE FREQUENTLY UPLOADED ONTO YOUTUBE.

I mean. How could I not like the show?
There is Pancake who is the first non-annoying lead girl I've ever encountered.
There is Weir who looks like Sun will in 10 years
There is a cute gay side role
and some other cute brother role.
It just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

    YAAYAYAYAAYYAYAYAYAYAY.
    ALSO.
I saw Gaew Dtah Pee and Hua Jai Chocolate DVD Sets at Siam. If my budget allows it I will definetely pick'em up!

(general question - how do you post youtube vids directly into your post?)

  • Love God only Listens on Thursdays at 9:30PM

Yesterday Ajahn Pingthong and Ajahn Dtaew took me to Chao Praya so we could take a boat around to various destinations in Bangkok. We met up at Central first, parked at Bangrak, and walked to the pier.

It was nice weather in the morning - the sun was shining but I wasn't melting yet. We got onto the regular transit boat (only 17 baht) - and sat for about an hour. It was relaxing - I got to see what Thai houses on the river looked like, I saw a few Temples I'd like to go too. We stopped at a small province right outside of BKK. Hopped in a van - took another short boat and ended up at Go Gret (Gret Island). It's basically a village turned market. Every house is selling things. Clay pots and various knick knacks. I honestly don't think I could handle living in such a place. Privacy would seem to be an issue - having noisy tourists walking down your streets and through your backyards at all hours of the day.

We stopped for lunch and I had some AMAZING Green Curry. I was crying and sweating because it was spicy and I was eating too fast - but come on - FOOD CANNOT BE FUN UNLESS YOU CRY WHILE EATING.

We stopped at Wat Pho on the way home - walked around and took a few pictures (The Reclining Buddha there is HUGE!). It was really interesting and stood apart from other temples I've seen. It is full of statues imported from China which gives it a different feel.

We wanted to go to Wat Arun but we were all so tired and I hear that its much nicer after dark anyways. We stopped for two more bowls of noodles (I love how well my teachers take care of me) and headed home. All in all it was a pretty productive day. I feel I am making good use of my remaining time here.

[THEME CHANGE - I know my page looks boring and white now. but I dont want a dark skin anymore. this one is just so bright and clean. I enjoy it.]

Exchange Student Brittni and I both agree:
The world will end in 2012.
(The Aztech Calendar does NOT LIE)

    I have mixed emotions.
    but - mostly good ones.

Sure there are a number of things I won't be able to experience.
Like being an old person. Or University graduation.

BUT HEY! I won't have to worry about long term future.
JUST THE NEXT 4 years - what a deal.
Plus I get to die at 22 - what a pretty number.

    ON A LESS APOCALYPTIC NOTE
Thai school is just as adorable as it was when I left it. They were all excited to see me yesterday. A few friend helped me buy a SIM Card yesterday afterschool - only problem is the phone that Joe Crawford left here is pretty much broken down and dead. (If you can call that "neon pink gadget - smaller than my pinky" a phone). So..I will have to see if I can borrow another -
If not - I think it would be pointless to buy a phone when I have almost 2 weeks left here.

So. I am looking foward to a booked weekend with my
bound to be exciting multicultural homosexual brunch on saturday - and then a trip to Wat Prakaew with my Thai Song teacher Ajahn Pintong.

    More Later!
I am off to do some more Karaoke in my room.

  • เกือบจะถึงแล้ว

     (Left:SUN!!)
So the lovely Britt and Amy are heading back to America tomorrow morning, leaving me with a little over two weeks to myself.

I'll try to make some visits to school - but mostly I just want to wander around unbothered. Then, in my last week - go on a shopping spree unbothered.

Anyways. Yesterday I went to lunch with the wonderful Dut (friend of Joe who I haven't seen since New Years Eve). We ended up on the same BTS car sitting across from each other. (totally unplanned - but quite convenient - no need to find each other at Siam). He had to rush back to school at around noon, I headed home rather than going and seeing my school friends. I was feeling sleepy and lazy and just wanted to relax.

I got home and got a phonecall from Mr. SUN. He was working on English and needed me to translate a few words for him. Unfortunately my brain wasn't working too well - He said "Chlorophyl(sp?)" and I heard "Chlorine"..and that got me all confused. Then he asked the definition of Ceramide which I had absolutely no idea. (something involving fatty things in tissues of animals and plants blah blah blah biology. etc.)

We then continued to discuss the prospect of me returning (which I've pretty much decided is 99% sure GOING TO HAPPEN) and basically came to the conclusion that - as long as I have not gotten too disgustingly overweight in my time away, I can still share his apartment.

    DEAL.

Yesterday, I finally decided to leave house.
[I am pretty much the last exchange student left. Going places alone is just so unappealing]

I decided to go somewhere new. Rather than turning left and heading towards Central Plaza, I turned right, crossed two walking bridges, and found myself in an area that didn't have much of anything. I got some extremely funny looks which all asked "is he lost?" or "what the hell?"- I was unaffected - being used to these looks now. I decided to begin my journey by hopping on a bus. I didn't recognize any of the numbers - so I picked 89. The only destination I remember from reading the bus is "สวนผัก" which I'd also never heard of.

I got the same looks from the passengers - they were all waiting to see how this lost foreigner was going to handle riding a bus - because he'd surely never done that before.

    Jon: โทษครับพี่ ผมมีแต่฿100 ใช้ได้ไหม

    Bus Woman: O_O; ...ได้?

Apparently they don't see my kind often.

Anyways. The bus kept going - and passed through the Charoen Nakorn area - then passed an area I didn't recognize. I followed my gut and got off before getting too lost [the bus game is fun - but when you're playing alone you gotta know when to draw the line.]

I decided to hop on the 542 to MBK. I need to restart at a well known point, if I felt like playing more I could go from there. I walked up through MBK to the walkway - then the Paragon. I decided to pick up a few cheap movies.

A movie director from Malaysia (whom I accidentally tried to speak Thai to.) convinced me that "Beautiful Boxer" was the best choice - it was only 69 Baht so I gave it a try. I also picked up two others "The Last Life in the Universe" and "Invisible Waves" - and then Tattoo Color CD on impulse.

[I have a problem. Shoes are to Girls - as Thai CDs are to Jon]

After buying things - I stopped over at Central World, caught the end of a Slot Machine concert and then decided I was too tired to play bus game anymore (and it was raining). I caught the 77 back to Sathu Pradit....and the walked...without an umbrella...for 30 minutes..and was locked out..so I jumped the gate..and my legs were very chaffed and hurt from walking

BUT. It was very fun =D
