I'm in Maryland right now staffing a TeenPact class here at their capitol. This season I'll be traveling with TeenPact to Maryland, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Maryland, and (of course) my own Rhode Island. It'll be an amazing and challenging season, but I look forward to seeing how God works through me and the students/staff I meet.

I'll try to post up pictures and more information about my travels....

Monday, September 25, 2006

"...but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." -Proverbs 18:24

It's been hard to watch my mom go through serious cancer, and now face the possibiliy of having another kind too, but it's almost been harder to watch her "friends'" reactions. When she was first diagnosed, it was the "exciting news" about town. Flowers, cards, and phone calls poured in. But after the surgury and first chemo treatment or two, during the months of hardship and sickness that followed, all these people forgot about her. Now, as my mom's learned that she might have a second kind of cancer, as she has struggled through painful radiation, and as the one-year anniversary of her mother's death (from terminal cancer) nears, nobody seems to care. So, I'll try and summarize the rest.

Camp Yawgoog was exciting. The weather ranged from 100 degrees + to chilly, sunny to tropical storm (we had to take shelter from it, inside the dining hall, until 3am). The food was...plentiful-if not tasty. The scouts and adults in my troop-amazing and fun as always.

Lastly, I just returned from a week in Maine. My youth pastor was the speaker for the week, and brought the youth group band (including me) along to do music and help out. It was a lot of fun, and a lot of work. We figured out that we practiced/led music, and helped out over 30 hours in the 5 day. So we returned home with tired arms, hands, and voices, but refreshed and excited spirits. A beautiful camp, great campers, and amazing staff....

The summer was full of adventures, lessons learned, and friends made...a smashing success I think!

Well, that's a quick, and very inadaquate summary. But I've got work bright and early tomorrow, so that's all for now!

-Jason :)

Tuesday, August 01, 2006

This is killing me.
"Out of the blue", I dear friend I've known for many years-but hadn't seen in a while-was showed up at my door. They were in the area and had decided to stop and say catch up. It was only 45 minutes or so, but it certainly made my day that this person, who's very busy, would take the time to stop and ask "how are you doing?"...and (even more unusual), stick around for the reply! So to you, my unnamed friend, thank you!

I'll be away from my dear internet for yet another week as I'm leaving in a few hours for "Boy Scout Camp Yawgoog", a pretty sweet camp (that's been ranked in the top scout camps in the US) that's full of adventure...

So friends, I bid you a fond (and thankfully only temporary) adeui!
