The 10 Best Films of 2007 The only criteria for these films was that I had to see them in the year 2007. 10. AMERICAN GANGSTER - Russel Crowe and Ridley Scott reteam to tell the tale of a 1970s black gangster. Denzel Washington has great performance as Frank Lucas, but Russel Crowe steals the show as the only honest cop in New York. 9. HOT FUZZ - The Shaun of the Dead team make a parody of all the buddy cop movies you have ever seen paying special attention to Point Break. 8. WALK HARD: THE DEWEY COX STORY - It was either this or Superbad as funniest movie of the year, but I chose this film because it had more heart to it. Plus its almost a pitch perfect parody of Johnny Cash. I can't count how many times a sink was pulled off the wall in this movie. 7. PAN'S LABYRINTH - Probably the most visual film of 2007, this film is more about how a child deals with war than fantasy images. 6. BEOWULF - Proof that certain films should be done in this motion control computer animation. There is no way this film could have been done in live action. A great expansion on the original poem that doesn't feel stupid or contrived. A must see in 3D. 5. 300 - One of the greatest stories of all time finally put on film. Another visually beautiful film, and essentially one long action scene. 4. THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM - Finally, a trilogy where every movie is good. The only "3" movie that came out this year was actually decent. 3. CHILDREN OF MEN - The best science fiction film of the last ten years. 2. THE DARJEELING LIMITED - The new Wes Anderson film about three brothers traveling through India will reverberate with anybody that has ever had problems with their siblings. 1.
3:10 TO YUMA The Western has returned, my friends. Not only is it a decent film, but it has amazing performances from Russel Crowe and Christian Bale. Whoever thought a western would be the best film of the year? |
