  • Too Sleepy To Blog

The last 5 days have been so filled with activities from going to Aquaria KLCC with my great form 6 friends to rushing through kindy lessons and church things that I've been too tired to blog. All my free time has been spent mostly in sleep. Every now and then - when waiting for my ride to come, for example - I'd imagine out a new developement or character for the Maggy Donut adventures, but when actually sitting in front of my computer I'd find that I was just too sleepy to write a good story.

I don't know why I've been so sleepy lately. My body keeps telling me, 'Rest, rest!" when really, what have I done that requires rest? It's not like I have a hectic schedule. Just a well-filled one.  And my body keeps telling me to take sugar, but I think that's just the way I'm built.

Here are some snapshots of the week gone by (and some photos of yummy Penang food like I promised):

Oh. My Gmini needs to be installed on this computer for me to use it. My brother just totally cleaned out the computer and installed Windows Xp. So no pics.

Drool over the Penang food some other time?

    Thanks for reading,
    Jenna

  • Not another obituary

I thought, should I put up an obituary for CC? I just didn't want to. It's too depressing. 2 obituaries within the span of 3 entries is two obituaries too much. So let's take a moment of silence for the last of my class fish. It was a good fish.

Do you know why I have not blogged since I returned from  Penang? Because I have all these great pictures of Penang food that I wanted to put up to make you all envious (except, of course, for Jia Chen who's already there and can eat great Penang food everyday). Unfortunately, my trigger-happy attitude resulted in 0% power in my camera and I couldn't find my sister's memory card reader. Reluctant to recharge the batteries and reluctant to blog without pictures, the Yummy Donut remained unblogged - okay, no such word - outdated.

I watched Iron Man on Tuesday. It. Was. Awesome!!! The suit was amazing, the lighted charge in the middle of Tony Stark's chest was so cool, and just everything, everything about the movie was so, so enjoyable. It was fast-moving (unlike the Hulk, snore) and exciting and you were rooting for Tony Stark from the moment he appeared in the desert. I felt I had to praise the plot and the suit before moving on to say : ROBERT DOWNEY JR IS SO HOT. Guys, this doesn't make me a bimbo; I really loved the cool graphics and script and colours, but really. I'm a girl too and ROBERT DOWNEY JR IS SO HOT. Iron Man is now my #1 Marvel movie.

And, oh, Prince Caspian is coming out. Though the preview has me a bit worried. What's with that scene of the Ice Queen? She doesn't appear in the book. Neither is Prince Caspian quite so old. They didn't change the plot, did they? They did such a good job sticking to it in the first movie...

I only have 10 days left of teaching kindergarten. I will miss my class a lot. Here's a cute moment: I was testing a boy (the cute one sitting on the table in the 2nd picture) about colours in Mandarin because he speaks Mandarin. He said, "Huang se, hong se, orange se, red se." That was funny.

    A Tribute to Ashleigh
Last night, I was reading "A Hat Full of Sky" by Terry Pratchet which Ashleigh lent me. Ash, I  it! It was so funny that I was laughing aloud every few pages. Thanks Ash.

And so here is my tribute to Ashliegh for all the great books she's inspired me to add to my collection: without her these would not have brightened up my afternoons-

The Abhorsen Trilogy (I can never thank you enough)
The Little House on the Prairie series
The Artemis Fowl series starting with the Arctic Incident
The Wee Free Men & A Hat Full of Sky
    and many many more.

Ashleigh honey, you are the Buku Guru. Thanks for all the books you've lent me over the years. Additional note: Ashliegh is one of the reasons why I did well in the STPM - she came over to my house for the last 40 days before the exams to study, therefore spurring me on to study too. So Ash, I owe you a lot. Love you, love you, love you!

Oh, look at the time. I've got to go attend a children's camp meeting soon. I'll leave you with a dream I had last night.

I was visiting an aquarium/zoo somewhere in the middle of the jungle. The different sections were located in wooden buildings scattered like mushrooms in a clearing. I first entered the aquarium, where I went diving among the fishes. It was a ginormous tank, and I swam and swam. Once a dolphin zipped past me, and as I watched it leave I noticed a couple of huge green turtles and hawksbill turtles swimming below me. After surfacing, I was interviewed by some university admittance officers and started telling them about SEATRU.

Then I was in another section, looking at a scary, prehistoric looking shark, with grinning teeth, dull grey skin and the tail of an eel. Glow in the dark tubes were attached to it, making it look even freakier. It grinned menacingly at me and seemed to telegraph "I'm going to get you". I telegraphed back, "Just try it!" Then I ran.

Last of all, I tried getting into the animal house, but they charged extra fees and I got into an argument with the girl at the entrance. My cousin showed up, flashed her government servant card, and brought me in.

         Then I woke up.

    TTFN,
    Jenna

  • Trigger-happy

Happy Pink Class 2  Snack Time! 2   That's right, Teacher Jenna went trigger-happy today. Aren't these photos adorable? My cute little edulings. (e-dju-lings) Today I snapped lots and lots of photos, 110 in total, of all sorts of things, and everyone I spent time with. Why? Because...

I now own a Canon Powershot A580! I bought it before BSF class yesterday. James was nice enough to bring me to Low Yat to look at cameras. I had either a Canon Powershot or Canon Ixus in mind, and when I stepped onto the camera floor, I saw... a Canon Promotion going on! We went over, and after eliminating the Ixus because of price (over RM1000) and the lesser Canon Powershot (forgot what model, yes James, what a girl) because it was too basic, I chose the Canon Powershot A580. My canonling! It came with lots of free accessories, and overall it was a great deal. Thank you James for being my camera consultant.

And so I went nuts with the canonling today. Took photos of all the kids (and no matter what they do, they still turn out so adorable!). A few kids were camera-shy, which was cute. Try to pick out which 3 I'm talking about. (2 girls, 1 boy) Haha. Obviously the ones flashing peace signs and making faces aren't camera-shy at all!

By the way, James, (if you're even reading this) I had a good time in Low Yat (so surprising) and at KFC. Thanks again.

I could go on about the Canonling, but I won't because I don't want to bore you.

So let's talk about Penang. I'll be going there tomorrow with my parents and fat Teddy-dog to visit my relatives. I won't be back 'till Sunday. I'm going to bring a thick book, my mp4 player, and my camera so I'll have things to do.

I just reread that last sentence: I'm going to bring a thick book, my mp4 player and my camera so I'll have things to do. I can't believe I said that. I'm such a city kid! I shouldn't have to bring those things so I can enjoy myself in Penang! What happened to walks? Sight-seeing? Talking with my aunts and cousins? Oh no! I've been conditioned (conditioned! A word associated with psychology which I rarely ever use) to find pleasure in gadgets and material things!

And do you know I'm bringing 2 chargers to Penang? 2! I used to not have to bring any! This is terrible.

But it's not going to stop me from bringing them anyway. I know better than to leave all this behind because I'll probably end up watching Chinese dramas on TV or lying on the bed, staring at the fan going round and round and round...

And having the Teddy-dog as a footrest in the car can only entertain me for so long...

    See you in a week!
    Jenna

p.s. Sunday's youth project went well, praise God.

  • Goodbye, Kiki

    Rest In Peace
    an Obituary

Sometime after 1pm on the 23rd of April, Kiki, beloved pet of the Pink Class met its demise.

It was found floating in the water, lifeless, on the morning of the 24th, by grieved caretaker Ms. Loo, class teacher, and colleague Ms Vicki.

    Its presence will be missed.

It left one fish friend, a tiger bard CC who has now taken over the name of Kiki in memory of the good fish.

The burial service was hastily conducted in one Flower Pot.

We will miss you and replace you, Kiki, dear fish.

  • Meet Kiki & CC

I don't know if you've noticed that everytime there's a slideshow on my blog there's a long interval of time before the next post. (And notice the music?) Well, that's because I like slideshows so much that I want to keep them on the top of my blog for as long as possible. Unfortunately by doing so for too long, less and less people visit my page since there's nothing new.

And so I've decided to blog a little about the 2 class fish, Kiki and CC. They are small tiger bard fishes that are even now - I hope - swimming in a little fish tank on my desk in kindy. As you can tell, the children named them. Every morning, one of the children gets to feed them, and every afternoon after school I empty out the dirty water and refill the tank. I'm becoming quite attached to them. Kiki is a bully, and chases CC around the tank. Since there's no way of disciplining the fish, I can only frown above the water. That's the problem with fish. You can't train or pet them. You just feed, clean, feed, clean, watch.

What shall I say next? Well, in this one week I've been having a bit of trouble with the kids, who seem to have gotten naughtier since I returned. Everyday I have to scold some of them for disturbing their friends, or running around, or not paying attention. I hope that this is just a phase and that the power of removing stickers will not be diluted by overuse. If I have not stickers, what have I?

Other things: I'm working on a project for youth that's starting this Sunday, and need all the prayers I can get. Also I'm looking forward to dinner with my form 6 classmates this Saturday. Besides that, I bought the 1st and 3rd book of the Cosmic Trilogy by CS Lewis yesterday, and am looking for the 2nd one.

And that's about it for now!

Off to cut caterpillars and play "Who's got the Biggest Brain?",

A Little Info...

  • I'm 20 this year but don't feel it. I don't like making small talk, so social scenes don't appeal to me. That doesn't mean I don't like hanging out with friends; I do. It's acquaintances that's hard work. I analyse everything; from the things people say to the books I read to the reason sugar makes me happy. I think you'd like me if you got to know me.
