  • Moved to Blogger

I've pretty much moved over to Blogger.  I was getting frustrated with Themes not working properly and started messing around over at Blogger and decided I prefer it, so that's where I'm at now.  Everyone is welcome to come visit at http://thingsfrommyhouse.blogspot.com/.   I still get my Xanga subscriptions and enjoy hearing what everyone is up to.  I haven't put any Xanga links on my Blogger site yet.  Xanga seems to be a little more of a closed forum and I didn't want people to get unwanted traffic.  If you would like me to add you to my site I would love to, but you need to let me know it's OK to do so.  Hope to see you over there for a visit soon.

  • Great Homeschool Site

I just thought I would share a really great site I stumbled upon, www.enchantedlearning.com .  This is such a great site for homeschoolers or for parents who just want some fun and interesting things to do with the kids.  It has so many things on the site.  I spent quite while looking though things but still have not seen everything.  The web site charges $20 for one year.  This gives you access to everything on their site.  There is just so many things for different ages and for different themes:  crafts, mini books, diagrams and too many more to even begin to mention.  We've been getting into notebooking lately which I love.  This has oodles of things that could be used for notebooking.  I've already printed out a stack of things to use.  Now I have to go through and organize things.  Fortunately I love to organize.  So that should keep me busy for a while.

P.S. Themes still can't be edited.  It's been at least four days now since themes went down.  I wish Xanga would fix the problem!!!

  • Boom-diyada

Jessica loves the Discovery Channels new commercial, Boomdiyada.  I must admit I think it's a great video also.  Here's the link if you haven't already seen it.  Or even if you have and want to listen to it over and over as my daughter does.  It really is a neat song and video.

Jessica added her own ending to it;  I love God cause He created all the world.  She says it nice to see people singing about how wonderful and awesome the world is and I agree.  Our favorite scene is the guys from MythBusters, Adam and Jamie.  Adam is lighting Jamie's arm on fire with a blow torch and Jamie is being true to form and not showing a bit of emotion.  I guess you have to be a MythBusters fan to get that one, which we are  .

  • Is anybody else having Theme Problems? Help!

Is anyone else having problems editing your theme?  It won't let me make any changes.  It just doesn't respond when I try to do anything.  I went to the help boards and a few other people are having the same problem, but I'm wondering if everyone is having this problem or just a few of us.  I'm getting really frustrated.  All there is on the help boards are people calling attention to the problem but nobody is doing anything to fix it or letting anybody know what's the problem.  If  anybody can edit your theme let me know so I'll know it may just be my account.  Not sure what I'll do, but at least I would know.

  • Turkeys, Cows, and Birds, oh my

Today me and Jessica went to the library to visit my mom.  She volunteers at the libraries used bookstore and we usually go visit her when she's there.  We have such a great library.  It's really old and beautiful.

Here is the inside.  This picture shows one of the sitting/study areas.  The books are on the other side of the library behind me as I'm taking the picture.  It's really large and has beautiful woodwork and wood floors.  We're very blessed to have such a wonderful library in town.

Here is an outdoor garden sitting area.

And here is the Lincoln Shrine Museum right behind the library.  It has Lincoln and Civil War artifacts and memorabilia.  It's a really great little museum.

Then we went to the Bracken Bird Farm.  It's a fairly large well known bird farm that ships birds all over the country.  They have birds of all kind and an aviary to walk through.  I wish I could share some pictures.  Unfortunately, they don't allow any pictures to be taken.  Maybe it frightens the birds.  But it was really fun to see so many beautiful birds.

But they also have other animals outside and we did take some pictures of those.  There were three turkeys that were strutting around all puffed up.  Jessica really liked these guys.  She was calling them the preppy turkeys.

Here is another turkey.  I'm thinking it may have been a wild turkey.  Not actually out in the wild, but they were different than the other ones.  I guess these could have been the females but they looked very different.  I'm not a turkey expert so I just don't know.

Then there were two cattle.  I'm not sure what kind, but they were very unique.  They had very long hair.  They kept coming over by the fence to say hi.

And here I am with the animals.  Don't I look all countrified in my coveralls.  Actually I'm wearing them because I've gained weight and they don't have a waist so they're really comfortable .

They also had a Brahma Bull, a camel, some goats, a miniature horse, and several ostriches.  But these were behind another fence so you couldn't go see them.

We had a really fun day.  Jessica even got some of her school done before we left this morning, so that was good.  Then the rest of her school was the field trip.  The weather was cold and drizzly this morning and never did clear up.  We had such lovely spring weather for a while and then it went away.  Drats!  Well, this is Southern California.  I guarantee the sun will be back .

Life at My House

  • I'm a homeschool mom of one twelve year old daughter. I love organizing (although I don't think I'm very organized), decorating, gardening, homeschooling, reading, walking, bike riding (when the weather is nice). Come on by and see what's going on at my house.
